3 Club Minutes On Sunday, April 8th the Glasgow Hardies Creek Busy Bees met at the First Presbyterian Church in Galesville, WI, with the meeting starting at 6:00. Brianne Cooper led the American pledge and Kim Cooper led the 4-H pledge. Brianne then read the Secretary s Report and Sawyer read the Treasurer s Report. With a motion from Kinley Andersen and a second by Hailey Cooper, the club members present accepted both reports. I read aloud a Thank You which was sent to the club from the Food Pantry for the food items we donated during the month of February. Moving onto Old Business, Heidi talked about our upcoming Be(e) Creative Day, some clarification about the YQCA, and members present who participated in the Festival of the Arts shared with the club their talents and what they enjoyed most about the day. For New Business, each member was asked to vote for their preference of t-shirt design for new club t-shirts. We were update with our Explorer Building Remodel project, so a few of our officers will try to meet to get a letterhead to send out to local businesses with pledges for donations. Tianna Johnson shared some cyber safety tips with members as our Buzz Word for the month was Personal Safety. Before a motion to adjourn the meeting by Hailey Cooper and a second by Carter Giemza, we made personal First Aid Kits. Respectfully, Alexi Hunter 3 Submit your minutes from your last meeting for admission in the CLOVER dispatch, so your members can see the highlights and other clubs can see your good example! 8 Events Tractor & Machinery Safety Course The Tractor and Machinery Certification/Training program has been available for many years to 14 and 15 year old youth wishing to operate tractors and farm machinery for non-related parties (for hire). In addition, Wisconsin Law (Act 455) requires any child under the age of 16 (minimum 12 years of age) who operates a farm tractor or self-propelled implements of husbandry on the highway (public road) to be certified as having successfully completed a tractor and machinery operation safety training course. There are no family or relative exemptions. This law (Act 455) took effect July 1, The legislature considered and accepted lower age limit i.e. 12 years of age. This amendment passed and was signed on April 27, This training program is designed to meet the necessary requirements for certification for compliance under Wisconsin Act 455 (youth under 16) and for those youth 14 and 15 desiring training and federal certification for farm employment (Part 570 Child Labor Regulations). The 24-hour program includes: hands on instruction for tractors and farm machinery operation; hazard recognition and correction; general farm safety knowledge and stresses the importance of a positive attitude towards safety. The course will be taught by Monroe and La Crosse County Extension Agents and Vo-Ag Instructors from area school districts. The training will be conducted at the Barney Center, 1000 E. Montgomery St, Sparta, WI. Please notice that this is a 24-hour training program (classroom & assignments). Students are required to attend all sessions. They must pass both a written and a driving exam. The course is taught at a year-old age level. Parents/guardians need to let us know if youth have special classroom learning accommodations in school. Youth must be able to reach the pedals and controls on the tractors while properly seated in order to participate. Youth must be at least 12 years old at the time of the class to participate. Participants must wear closed-toe shoes and appropriate attire for weather and operating farm machinery. Tractor/Machinery Training Schedule Monday June 18 8:00 a.m. 4:00 p.m. Tuesday June 19 8:00 a.m. 4:00 p.m. Wednesday June 20 8:00 a.m. 4:00 p.m. (Class may run later if necessary to complete any unfinished driving skill evaluations and/or testing) For more information, please contact Bill Halfman at the Monroe County Extension Office (608) Registrations are due by Monday, June 11, Program cost is $30, please make checks payable to UW Extension and mail with the completed registration & behavioral form and activity waiver. We are continuing the requirement for any youth who has received funding for a state or national educational program to spend at least two total hours working in the food stand sometime during the Trempealeau County Fair. The proceeds from the food stand directly fund youth trips and serving a shift is an important part of giving back to your community. This can be during your normally scheduled club shift or some other time. Information will be sent out in the summer to choose the dates and times you will be working. Preference for the following year s trip and award selection will be given to those who meet this requirement. 8 Looking for 2 new people to head the Fair Ambassador Committee. We want to thank Sheryl Byom & Susan Frame for doing a wonderful job with the Fair Ambassador program.
