Topics include project requirements and resources, Record Books, Fair, opportunities, ice cream and more! 4-H Council provides the main dish (and ice cream) and families are asked to provide a side dish to share. 4-H Members, Cloverbuds and Sprouts spend time learning more about 4-H projects with Jr. Leaders and CITs. When: Monday, March 19 at 6pm Where: 4-H Building on the Fair Grounds Please RSVP By: Thursday, March 16 Quality Assurance 4-H members planning to exhibit market animals at the Goshen County Fair are REQUIRED to complete Quality Assurance (QA). Quality Assurance is a pledge or a promise that the food from our livestock will be the highest possible quality and youth producers will do everything possible to make products safe to eat. Youth who have previously completed any Quality Assurance Levels are on record at the and will only be required to be certified at the next appropriate Level. Youth who have completed Pork Quality Assurance, Beef Quality Assurance or any other species specific Quality Assurance programs can bring in the appropriate documentation, usually a card, and be exempt, provided they renew their certification. Youth in the Senior age division (14-18) must complete three levels in order to exhibit at the Goshen County Fair. Youth in the Intermediate age division (11-13) must complete two levels in order to exhibit at the Goshen County Fair. Youth in the Junior age division must complete the first level in order to exhibit at the Goshen County Fair. Level 1: Level 2: Level 3: Tuesday, April 24 at 6pm, Wednesday, April 25 at 6pm, Thursday, April 26 at 6pm, Please RSVP for all dates by Friday, April 20 so enough materials can be provided. Parents are strongly encouraged to attend with their 4-H member. Quality Assurance must be complete by June 15. 2 Page 2 4-H Council 4-H Council Meetings at 6pm March 20 April 17 May 15 Leader Reminders Please remember to re-enroll in 4-H Online! You will remain pending until you complete the necessary training and/or background check. Club Charter (AKA End of Year Report Forms) were due at the January 16 Council meeting. 4-H Club Assessments are due February 16 to the or to Dawn Coxbill. Pancake Supper tickets are due back on March 13. Enrollment deadline is March 1. Sale Committee Meeting The next meeting of the Junior Livestock Sale Committee is scheduled for Sunday, March 18 at 6:30pm in the Brand Room. Contact Megan with agenda items! New Leader Orientation It s not too late to enroll as a 4-H Volunteer! The next new leader orientation will be held on Monday, May 7 beginning at 6pm. This training is a requirement in order to be a 4-H Volunteer. Please RSVP by Friday, May 4th for planning purposes. Project Add/Drop Date The deadline to change to projects is May 1. 4-H Members may add projects for a $10 late fee or drop projects for no fee until May 1. These changes must be made through your Club Leader or the. After May 1, no changes can be made to your projects. 4-H Club Leaders, Club lists will be provided to you after the March 1 enrollment deadline. What: Serve a fruit or vegetable as a snack at (3) three meetings. Serve water as the main beverage at (6) six meetings. Add 15 minutes of physical activity at (9) nine meetings. Do an activity to enhance social and emotional health at (4) meetings! To register your 4-H Club for the 4th H for Health Challenge and for resources, contact the Extension Office! 3 Page 3 4-H Related Scholarships Wyoming State Homemakers Scholarship is due March 15. This is a special scholarship for Sophomores and Juniors in college. Information is available at the. Goshen County 4-H has a host of scholarships available, too! The deadline for these scholarships is April 15. To check them out, please visit our website: or stop by the. Scholarships include: Goshen County Homemakers Scholarship Terry D. Viktorin Memorial Scholarship Goshen County 4-H Scholarships (Mildred Kidney Educational Fund, Jesica Hovis Memorial Scholarship, Junior Leader and Barbara Ochsner Memorial Scholarship. Goshen County Commissioners scholarship is due May 1. Applications are available at the. The only way to win scholarships is to APPLY! 4-H Dog Clinics Open to all 4-H members enrolled in the Dog Project, these clinics include Obedience, Rally and Showmanship (unless otherwise stated.) Please bring a water bowl, crate, doggie clean up bags; members should wear athletic-type (soft sole) shoes to practice. *NEW* members, please do not purchase new collars or leashes until after this first practice as an order will be placed! Online Volunteer Training Series The State 4-H Office is offering online volunteer training on March 26 from 6:30-7:30pm. Participation in these training will count toward required leader renewal hours. March Project Meeting Fun Are you hosting project meetings for 4-H members to develop skills and create items for the fair? As a volunteer, it s your job to increase skills and knowledge in a project area. This online leader training will focus on how we can structure 4-H learning experiences. A great 4-H learning experience will help members develop project skills, life skills and maybe even a fair exhibit. This training may be helpful for parents to learn more about 4-H projects you can do at home without a leader. Please contact Megan if you would like to log-on at the. APRIL IS MONTH OF THE MILITARY CHILD Military kids truly are our youngest heroes and we have several right here in our communities! Throughout the month of April events and activities are held to celebrate the important role military children play in the armed forces community. As their home-lives are drastically changed during all stages of their parents deployment, military kids are presented with unique challenges and changes. You can show your support and appreciation for our youngest heroes by wearing purple on April 13 (aka Purple Up!) Why Purple? Purple represents all branches of military. From Army green, Marine red, Coast Guard, Air Force and Navy blue regardless of a parent s military branch, kids serve, too. 4 Page 4 Pancake Supper Sunday, March pm What is the Pancake Supper? The biggest fundraiser for 4-H Council. During the Pancake Supper 4-H members and leaders prepare and serve pancakes, ham, eggs and more to members of the community (over 1,000 friends and neighbors!) Who does the money benefit? Money raised benefits 4-H members and leaders. 4-H Council provides financial support to leader trainings, 4-H Camp, Cloverbud Camp, State Shoot, State Fair Showmanship trips, judging teams, awards, workshops, clinics, national trips and so much more! Instead of charging a county 4-H fee, we ask that our 4-H members participate in the fundraiser: both in selling tickets and working a shift at the meal. What can families do? 4-H families can support this endeavor by selling tickets to the Pancake Supper. Extra tickets are available at the. Tickets are due to the March 13. Clubs that return all their tickets by this deadline win a pizza party! Families that sell the most tickets also receive a prize. REMINDERS: Clubs are invited to promote their Club on their tables throughout the Supper. While there are a variety of creative ideas, remember you must wash the table after guests leave. Please sign in at the check-in table that day. When you sign in, please have clean nails. Those with long hair, please remember to pull it back. If you are UNABLE TO WORK A SHIFT AT THE PANCAKE SUPPER, please complete an Excused Form. This is available at the Extension Office and online at goshen4h/ Return this form to the prior to the Pancake Supper. You will be asked to do a makeup service. Members who do not sell tickets or work a shift at the Pancake Supper are ineligible for 4-H Council funds (including the 4-H Council Scholarship.) Jr. Superintendent Applications The Youth Show Committee is accepting applications from senior age division 4-H and FFA members interested in volunteering to support Fair Superintendents. Responsibilities include: data entry, publicity and promotion, running, hosting and management of shows, contests and events throughout the Goshen County Fair. Horse Judging and Hippology Horse Judging practice will begin on March 4 with a brief organizational meeting followed by practice on March 2 at 12 NOON. Coached by 4-H Volunteers Mercedes Powers and Terra Seyler, we ll establish practice schedules, review expectations and conduct the first practice.
