Don t forget to include your first name, whether you are leader, member or alumni, your age (if you are a member) and your club name. PROVINCIAL SHOW 2018 ACCOMMODATIONS! Deadline: May 15, 2018 Please see the attached order form for products and pricing! Ribbons will arrive in time for County Qualifying Events. Below is a link to a list of accommodation options for the Bridgewater area that has been provided to us by the Provincial Show Committee. Please share this list with anyone you feel would find it helpful! We are excited to finally report that the entry of our 2017/18 registration information is complete! Over the next week, each club and county will be receiving reports detailing their membership, project enrollment and volunteer screening statuses. For the 2017/18 4-H year, 4-H Nova Scotia has 2462 members in 75 clubs across the province! We are also thankful for the 760+ volunteers who have registered this year. We have appreciated everyone s patience while we worked through the initial transition to our new database. All of the hard work we ve put in this year will ensure that registration and communication will flow smoothly and efficiently in the years to come. 3 - for Counties & Clubs - If you are looking to use the 4-H logo on 4-H materials, please ensure you are following proper branding guidelines Yes, You May! set out by 4-H Canada. Use the 4-H Canada Logo Generator ( brand-app) to generate their club or county logo. A club or county logo will look like the 4-H NS logo but have the club or county name above the clover. Apply for funding under their own club or county name. Download and use the branding documents ( Please Do Not! Use the 4-H Nova Scotia name and/or charitable number to apply for funding or receipt of funds. Use the 4-H Nova Scotia logo on county or club specific documents (a club or county logo can be generated). Proper Logo Use All logos should be generated using the 4-H Canada logo generator ( and any club/ county logo use must be in accordance with the color standards listed in the branding documents ( This is the 4-H Canada logo, it can only be used by 4-H Canada for 4-H Canada (national) uses. Clubs and counties are not to use this logo. This is the 4-H Nova Scotia logo, it can only be used by 4-H NS for 4-H NS (provincial) uses. Clubs and counties are not to use this logo without permission from 4-H NS. This is a club/county logo (note the club/county name above the clover). Clubs and counties can generate their own logo for their local uses. High school students and 4-H ages are invited to attend the conference on May 11-13, 2018 at St. Francis Xavier University in Antigonish, Nova Scotia. 4 4-H Canada and Syngenta Canada are excited to announce the new club outreach initiative: Steeped in Soil! The Steeped in Soil initiative encourages 4-H ers to understand and appreciate the importance of healthy soils! 4-H Nova Scotia is seeking a full-time Summer Student Administrative Assistant! The deadline for adding or dropping projects is also May 15th. This date was selected to coincide with the livestock registration date. The Woodsmen Committee coordinates the program for the 4-H Woodsmen Members and specifically the competition at 4-H Weekend. The Woodsmen Committee currently has representation from the Eastern, South Shore and Cape Breton regions. The committee has openings for new members representing the Western, Valley and Central Regions. If you are interested in filling one of these positions please your name, contact information, any 4-H club or county affiliations and a short description of your relevant knowledge, skills and why you d like to be a part of the Woodsmen committee to carolyn.gibson@4hnovascotia.ca

7 That question is becoming mainstream in agriculture, yet it s something most youth have never considered. That is why industry experts and educators collaborated to create Farmers 2050 the newest virtual farm game on the market to help teens and adults understand what it really takes to feed the world. Journey 2050 is also taking students on a virtual farm simulation that explores world food sustainability. Using an inquiry based approach this program encourages students to make decisions and adjust them as they see their impact on society, the environment and the economy at a local and global scale. The students experience the lives of three farm families in Kenya, India, and Canada. Check them both out using the links below! Atlantic Veterinary College Summer Academy AVC is accepting applications for its 2018 Summer Academy program, which will take place from August This academically based program helps participants understand what is involved in getting an education in veterinary medicine. AVC Summer Academy is open to those who are currently enrolled in, have been accepted into, or have graduated from university. Chicken Farmers of Nova Scotia (CFNS) is a farmerrun, non-profit organization representing the 80+ registered producers who grow chicken in all parts of Nova Scotia. 10 The L.E.A.D. awards recognize outstanding 4-H ers who epitomize 4-H youth empowerment. We are looking to acknowledge and honour confident, accomplished 4-H ers who have gained critical life skills and leadership through their 4-H experience.
