2 The Bath State Bank 4-H Youth Livestock Program To learn more about this program you can pick up a brochure at the Extension Office or call Christine Flaspohler, Ag Loan Officer at ALL ADVISOR UPDATE MEETING (ONLY for the advisors that missed the meetings in February) When: Thursday March 19, 2015 Where: OSU Extension Office (1802 Princeton Rd., Ste. 400 Hamilton) Time: 7 pm (Plan on arriving by 6:30 pm to get checked in and to pick up information packets) RSVP Deadline: harris.2184@osu.edu by 4:30 pm on Tuesday March 17, 2015 If you are a NEW advisor (or know of someone wanting to become a new 4-H advisor) and have not yet attended the New Advisor Training, you should attend this meeting and it will serve as your New Advisor Training. Why is this meeting MANDATORY for all advisors? What happens if I fail to comply with OSU Policy 1.50? I know in the past many clubs only sent one advisor to the annual update meeting. Due to OSU Policy 1.50, all advisors are now required to attend this update meeting which will consist of some required training that each advisor must go through. So, no matter if you re the key advisor or the cloverbud advisor, you re required to be at one of these meetings. This new policy is being implemented by Columbus. If you need a letter from me to give to your employer in order for you to take the time off from work in which to attend this meeting, I will be more than happy to provide you with the letter. WHAT HAPPENS IF YOU DO NOT ATTEND ONE OF THESE MANDATORY MEETINGS? The 4-H Extension staff will do everything possible to ensure you complete the mandatory training. This training is to protect ALL advisors working with youth. Thank You Note Card Contest We are having a Thank You Note Card contest in 2015 for 4-H members to design thank you note cards for Butler County. Entries are due: March 16, Get your creative juices flowing and come up with a design that you think would be an impressive 4-H thank you note card. They can be hand drawn or computer generated. They should be submitted on a ½ sheet of paper (8 ½ x 5 ½). Please turn in your entry by 4:30 p.m. on March 16th to the Extension Office. Put your name and club on the BACK of your entry.
3 Three note cards will be selected and the winners will each receive $ The winning 4-H thank you note card will be used at 4-H functions and at the Butler County Fair. 4-H Committee Meetings March 5, 2015 County Achievement Report Form grading session for ONLY the adult members. This is a potluck meeting so please bring something to share with people. We will eat together at 6 pm and start grading county achievement report forms at 6:45 pm. March 17, 2015 (St. Patrick s Day) Monthly meeting will take place at 7:00 pm at the Extension office. 4-H Horse Advisory Committee March 16, 2015 Monthly meeting will take place at 7:00 pm at the Extension office. New 4-H Advisor Training Date May 20, :30 pm at the Extension office VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES 4-H CARTEENS Youth and Adult Volunteers NEEDED! Do you have to complete community service learning hours to meet your high school graduation requirements? Are you interested in assisting your peers with a great cause? Are you interested in developing life skills like teamwork, self-responsibility, leadership, and cooperation? Are you looking for scholarships to assist with college expenses? In H CARTEENS provided $7,200 in scholarship to nine 4-H CARTEENS members that are currently attending college this fall. Then you might be interested in becoming a 4-H CARTEENS volunteer! Both teens and adults are needed. Teens that serve as teachers must be 15.5 to 19 years old and must have a driving permit for at least 60 days. The primary purpose of the 4-H CARTEENS program is to educate youth to have safe driving habits which will help to decrease the number of repeat juvenile traffic offenders. This is a great way to strengthen your life skills, make new friends, make a difference on the roads, learn the importance of volunteerism, and apply for scholarship opportunities. This will also look good on your annual report form and any job application. 4-H youth interested in becoming a volunteer are required to attend a CARTEENS program, with a parent. At the end of the program, both the 4-H youth and parent get to make the decision about the volunteer opportunity with CARTEENS. 4-H youth that sign up to volunteer with CARTEENS must commit to teaching at an assigned station twice a month.
4 The program begins at 6:15 pm every Wednesday evening during the school year and biweekly during the summer. The March 2015 programs are scheduled for 4 th, 11 th, 18 th, and 25 th. However, I would encourage you arrive by 5:45 pm in order to meet some of the current 4-H CARTEENS volunteers. I would like to thank all the advisors and teens for volunteering their time for this wonderful program that is truly making a difference in the lives of our teen drivers. I would also like to thanks staff members Cathy Minor, Elizabeth Young and Erin Simpson-Sloan for helping out with the program. Contact me at harris.2184@osu.edu or by phone at (513) for more information. Be a Part of the Conversation! Community Reconsidered (Extension Reconsidered) Extension Reconsidered is a national deliberative dialogue about the future of Extension in the United States sponsored by Imagining America and supported by the Kettering Foundation. This is part of the centennial anniversary of the Smith-Lever Act which established the Cooperative Extension Service. Butler County is one of the fourteen counties in Ohio selected to participate in this dialogue. The team members participated in training in Columbus on November 15, The results of the deliberative conversation will help to shape OSU Extension. The conversation will be part of a statewide Extension futurity process. The conversation will be added to the conversations taking place in twelve other states this year through Extension Reconsidered. So what s needed for this conversation? We re looking for 15 to 40 people in the county between 14 and 30 years of age to participate in this conversation. When: Saturday March 21, 2015 Time: 1 pm (lunch), 1:45 pm (program starts) Location: Extension Office If you have interest in participating in the conversation, please contact Kevin Harris via at harris.2184@osu.edu or by phone at H Blanket Sale There are a number of the 4-H blankets that were given out at the 4-H Achievement Night that are for sale.
