Box 401 Tehachapi, CA Fax This one day Showcase provides local businesses and owners a unique opportunity to do both business-to-business networking and a chance to display their goods and services to the general public. The First Annual Fall Business Showcase showcased the Greater Tehachapi area businesses in the best possible light and was a huge success with over 400 in attendance and all exhibitor spaces were sold out. Numerous positive comments and notes were received from last year s exhibitors and attendees. Participation is open to anyone and Chamber membership is not required, though membership means discounted fees for Showcase participation. To promote their distinctive menus, several area restaurants will provide samples of their fare for those in attendance. In addition, free Wi-Fi will be provided for all exhibitors. Admission the day to the event is free to all attendees and we expect people to attend. The first 300 attendees will receive a free reusable cotton grocery tote. The Fall Business Showcase is an inexpensive way to promote business to potential clients. We hope our members and the business community at large will take advantage of this cost-effective means to reach customers. Our guest speaker will be Senator Jean Fuller. Senator Fuller will provide an update on the State Budget and her work in the State Legislature. SENATOR FULLER represents approximately 850,000 residents of Bakersfield, Barstow, Bishop, California City, Frazier Mountain, Porterville, Ridgecrest, Taft, Twentynine Palms, Tulare, Visalia and other areas in the Kern River Valley and in Inyo and San Bernardino counties. Background Jean Fuller was born and raised in Kern County. She served as an educator in the Central Valley for more than 30 years, including extended terms as a Superintendent of Schools. She attended Bakersfield College, California State University Fresno and UCLA then continued her formal education at the University of California Santa Barbara where she received her PhD. She supplemented her education at the Harvard Graduate School of Education, the University of Southern California, and Exeter College in Oxford, England. Senator Fuller was elected to represent the 32nd Assembly District in 2006 and elected to the Senate in Jean and her husband, Russell, live in Bakersfield where they own a family farm. Senate Priorities Senator Fuller s top legislative priority this year is reducing regulations that burden California s businesses that prevent them from hiring, or rehiring, workers. Jean believes that putting more people to work and solving each Californian s personal budget crisis is the key to California s economic rebound. As Vice Chair of the Energy, Utilities and Communications Committee, Senator Fuller will focus on policy relating to our energy resources and emerging technologies. She will also continue her focus on our natural resources and the area of water policy. As a member of the Budget and Fiscal Oversight Committee, she will work to ensure the Legislature reduces unnecessary state expenses and guarantees tax-funded services are both needed and carried out in the most cost-effective way. Accomplishments During her tenure in the Assembly, Jean served as the leader of the Republican Water Policy Team that focused on finding solutions to California's water crisis to ensure sufficient water supplies for families, farmers, and businesses in the Central Valley. She also served as Chair of the Rural Caucus, a bipartisan group of 43 Assembly Members and Senators who provided a strong, united voice for residents of rural communities. Jean s top legislative priorities in the Assembly were expanding career technical education programs for high school students, increasing local jobs, reducing unnecessary regulation of California's small business and manufacturers, and reducing the tax burden on hard-working families. The cost is $15 for Chamber Members, $20 for Non-Chamber members, which includes lunch. Reservations are required.
