The Orillia District Chamber of Commerce is celebrating its 126 th Anniversary and looked back with pride on the accomplishments of the boards over those more than 100 years.

2 Dear Prospective Member, Enclosed is information and a membership application for the Orillia District Chamber of Commerce. We hope this information is of interest to you and that you will consider joining our organization. The Orillia District Chamber of Commerce is celebrating its 126 th Anniversary and looked back with pride on the accomplishments of the boards over those more than 100 years. The original Board of Trade was established as a business group to shape the destiny of a then prominent town in the Central Ontario area. They were responsible for bringing major industry, tourism and recognition to Orillia and indeed were a prime force in its growth during the late 1800s and early 1900s. The Chamber has remained a strong voice and producer of revenue for the City with the management of the Port of Orillia and many revenue generating events held throughout the year, both for citizens and visitors. 3 VISION STATEMENT Fostering prosperity for your business your community. MISSION STATEMENT A voice for an integrated and prosperous business community that fosters economic development and advocates on behalf of its members. We do this to promote sustainable growth in the Orillia district. WHAT IS THE CHAMBER? The Chamber of Commerce is a voluntary, non-profit association consisting of over 640 members. From this membership a board of fourteen directors is elected who meet on the fourth Tuesday of every month. The City of Orillia & Townships of Ramara, Severn, Oro- Medonte and Rama First Nation have the opportunity to be represented by appointees to the board. To further strengthen communication links with other community groups there are also appointees on the board representing Georgian College, Lakehead University, Casino Rama, Doctor Recruitment and Retention, Community Development Corporation, Soldiers Memorial Hospital, Manufacturers Association, Construction Association, Ontario s Lake Country and Downtown Orillia Management Board. The mandate of the Chamber of Commerce is to provide both tangible and intangible benefits to our members in particular, and our community as a whole. There are numerous standing committees working with and for our membership. These committees, which include directors, members and the community at large are: Post Secondary Scholarship, Business Achievement Awards, Business After Five, Golf Tournament, Perch Festival, Governmental Affairs, Santa Claus Parade, Strategic Plan Goals committees to work on implementation details of the Strategic Plan and others WHAT DOES THE CHAMBER DO FOR THE COMMUNITY? The Chamber manages, through the Executive Committee, the City of Orillia Municipal Marina known as the "Port of Orillia, The Jewel of the Trent Severn Waterway". The Business Achievement Awards Committee presents several awards for Outstanding Achievement in many categories such as Site Enhancement, Marketing, Company Expansion, Customer Service and New Business each February at our Annual General Meeting. The Governmental Affairs Committee provides a co-ordinated and powerful voice of business to City/Provincial/Federal Governments, as well as hosting All Candidates Nights during the Municipal, Provincial and Federal Elections to allow our members and citizens of Orillia to hear the views of those running for office. The Chamber, through our Tourism Information Service, attends several trade shows as well as provides tourism information on Orillia & area to thousands of visitor inquiries F R O N T S T. S. For example, in the Membership Directory, E-Newsletter, Perch Festival booklet, Orillia Area Guide Map, sponsorship of various seminars and other events, the Port Pouch, seasonal banner at the Port of Orillia, Special Events Listings, etc. ESSO FUEL DISCOUNT The Canadian Chamber of Commerce and Esso/Imperial Oil are pleased to offer members a discount on fuel with every fill up. Members will save money on every fuel purchase, whether you buy it across the street, across town or across the country. DISCOUNT LONG DISTANCE This cost saving program offers Chamber members free installation of the long distance lines that they require for their businesses as well as their homes. 5 E-NEWSLETTER The Chamber e-newsletter is published six times per year and is distributed to all members, local politicians, area media and other Chambers in Ontario. It includes information on our Chamber activities, relevant business information, news from the Canadian Chamber of Commerce and member advertising. MENTORING PROGRAM Chamber members meeting the mentee criteria (new business or business in transition) have the opportunity to attend facilitated sessions with a panel consisting of a local lawyer, accountant, financial institution, successful small business owner and a marketing expert. Each meeting will provide an opportunity for the mentees to receive advice on topics they wish to address involving the successful operation of their business. TO: Chamber members meeting the mentee criteria; new business or business in transition having been in business for at least one year. Research has shown that benefits of open panel discussions are valuable with the majority of questions generic in nature and apply to businesses as a whole. Limited private mentoring will be offered on a qualified basis to provide specific related advice. The Chamber is proud to be able to offer this initiative as a benefit to being a member of a strong business networking platform. The mentoring program put on by the Chamber of Commerce is an absolute must for any new member or business owner. The session offered valuable information that can't be obtained anywhere else; I highly recommend taking advantage of the free session.
