2 WEST WINDS August 6, 2018 Page 2 WEDNESDAY NIGHT MOVIE: MAIGRET Postponed from three weeks ago, we will now present the same episode of the French TV detective series as had been planned for then: "Maigret versus Mr. Cavre". At the request of a friend of his boss, Maigret is unofficially sent to Belgium to dig out the explanation of the recent suicide of a young man. Maigret has no police authority in Belgium, but using his investigating techniques, he eventually discovers the truth of what happened. The Mr. Cavre of the title (the man in the black hat!) tries to negate Maigret's effort. Wednesday August 8, 7:15 p.m. in the Auditorium. 1997, 89 minutes, in French with English subtitles. No violence. UPCOMING TRIPS: National Cryptologic Museum - The National Cryptologic Museum is the National Security Agency's principal gateway to the public. It shares the Nation's, as well as NSA's, cryptologic legacy and place in world history. Located adjacent to NSA Headquarters at Ft. George G. Meade, Maryland, the Museum houses a collection of thousands of artifacts that collectively serve to sustain the history of the cryptologic profession. Sign up in the Resident Business Center for this Trip taking place on Wednesday, August 8. The bus will depart at 9:30 a.m. $15 transportation fee. Library of Congress Trip- Thursday, August 9. Two cars will depart at 10:00 a.m. Enjoy a docent tour of the Library of Congress. Please sign up in the Resident Business Center. $15 transportation fee. 8 seats only. EMPLOYEE GIFT FUND TESTIMONIAL On a hot summer night, we realized our air conditioner had stopped. We sent an emergency about 11:30 p.m. to the Maintenance Department. A maintenance team of two was here by 10:00 a.m. They searched hard for a replacement compressor and worked all afternoon to install it. It was hard, hot work. We know if we were still in our house, we d be waiting for days for a service appointment and replacement. We are fortunate to live here! ~ Rita and Don Siebenaler FACILTIES OPERATIONS WORK ORDER SUBMISSIONS Please use the following s for submitting work order requests to the Facilities Department: Requests for Crossroads work orders, including Health & Wellness: GHBC-FMCR@goodwinhouse.org supervised by Aaron Haynie Requests for the Pointe work orders: GHBC-FMPointe@goodwinhouse.org supervised by Santos Laguna Requests for Housekeeping or House-porters: GHBC-ESTeam@goodwinhouse.org supervised by Tinia McNeely at tmcneely@goodwinhouse.org COMMUNITY CORNER One of the most inviting places to go for relaxation and enrichment at GHBC is our Library. Whatever is your spare-time pleasure in the reading world, you can find it there. A group of over twenty resident volunteers, each with a specific assignment, tend to the various duties of management. Beve Palmer and Anne White, also resident volunteers, oversee the GHBC Library. As you can quickly see upon entry into the Library, it is well stocked with books of every category, tapes (audio and video) and newspapers. The Fairfax County Library supplies us with 100 new books every quarter and will fill individual requests as well. If you are not quite sure how to navigate the system of requests, or check-outs, you are invited to come any Monday between 10:00 and 11:00 a.m. for a personal tour and spoken guidelines. Since this is a facility of books five hundred of us share, it is important to understand the expectations in regard to the returning of all checked-out items. Sharing is a trait for which GHBC residents are known, and we all take pride in keeping our reputation! Happy Reading! Dottie Moser, Resident

All GHBC Chapel Fund contributions help make our speaker series and other spiritual life activities possible. Thank you for your continued contributions. Thank you as well to the many volunteers that make the spiritual life of our community possible. The Chapel continues to need additional assistance. Chaplain Theresa appreciates any inquiries about how you might help, whether on a one-time or sporadic basis or more regularly. Assistance with resident transportation, service preparation and set up, greeting, and even straightening up after the various services are particular needs. See Chaplain Theresa Brion for more information. She can direct you to the appropriate resident coordinator or suggest ways in which you might be of help. All assistance is greatly appreciated. Getting to Know You! Chaplain Theresa welcomes getting to know each of you better. She seeks to be available to any and all residents, staff and their extended families and friends as they wish or need. It can be a time of celebration or one of sadness. She rejoices in the occasional phone call from a resident or staff member sharing recent good news. In short, she likes to companion and get to know each of you better. Stop by her office in the Pointe Administration Wing, give her a call (x-7224), or shoot her an (tbrion@goodwinhouse.org) to share and/or schedule a chat. She looks forward to getting to know each of the other members of our GHBC community better.
