2 WEST WINDS August 13, 2018 Page 2 WEDNESDAY NIGHT MOVIE: MAIGRET Our summer French TV series continues with episode 29, "Mrs. Four and her children. A hysterical woman reports to the police that she thinks her husband has committed murder. Maigret goes under cover as a traveling salesman in order to observe the woman and her bratty boys. Maigret can't be sure that the woman hasn't been the murderer. Although very mild compared to most American police movies, we warn you that, although not really violent, this episode is probably the most scary in the Maigret collection. Wednesday, August 15, 7:15 p.m. in the auditorium. 1997, 91 minutes, in French with English subtitles. SUGGESTION BOX Did you know you can write to the Suggestion Box via the resident website? You will find it under Council & Committees (along the green horizontal line near the top). Suggestion Box is on the bottom of the dropdown menu. Your suggestion follows exactly the same process as those suggestions dropped into the physical box in the mailroom, but you can complete and submit the form without leaving your apartment. EMPLOYEE GIFT FUND A REMINDER! Monthly gifts to the Employee Gift Fund may be the best way for you to contribute if your income is steady each month. Checks can be written and deposited each month into the Employee Gift Fund Box (located in the Resident Mail Room). This monthly method may be good for you if a large annual gift is not your preference. WELLS FARGO BANK SHUTTLE Since our Wells Fargo branch is closing on Wednesday, August 15, GHBC Transportation will be providing a shuttle to the Wells Fargo in the Trader Joe s plaza. This shuttle service will begin Tuesday, August 21. Please sign up for a time slot in the Resident Business Center so the driver knows who to expect. The schedule is as follows, with adjustments to be made if necessary: Tuesdays Thursdays Fridays 1:30-4:30 p.m. on the hour and half hour 9:00 a.m. - 12:00 noon on the hour and half hour 1:30-4:30 p.m. on the hour and half hour COMMUNITY CORNER Have you ever seen such a raffle? All of those tables lined up in the Rotunda with all sorts of goodies to entice the greater part of our population and what a special reason to participate! This Annual Mid-Summer Raffle is achieved by the hard work of residents some of whom spend a great deal of time contacting and convincing local vendors to donate items to be raffled off, and other personal items such as a quilt, a Nantucket Box, and baskets full of liquid refreshments. All of the proceeds from the raffle go to support the Goodwin House Foundation Fellowship Fund a dedicated resource to provide assistance to residents with special financial needs and to make life-time care a reality. In case you are wondering, and who isn t, the total gift given to the GH Foundation as a result of this Annual Mid-Summer Raffle is $4,885. A gift of which we can all be proud! As noted earlier, all of the work for this event is done by residents. Volunteers for next year s Annual Mid-Summer Raffle will be invited to a meeting in September. Be sure and watch for the notice. Dottie Moser, Resident

We finished the successful third year of the Annual Mid-Summer Raffle. This was the largest ever, a total of $4,885. What a pleasure and honor to help the Foundation which, in turn, helps all those residents whose resources become limited over time. We look forward to a successful fourth year next summer. Many residents and their family members take comfort in knowing that the residents plans are known by those closest to them. Remember that memorial gatherings can occur throughout the GHBC campus and can take most any form that one wishes. Chaplain Theresa also works with other members of the staff to assure that these plans are documented in a manner by which they are noted and accessible when needed by the appropriate staff. She welcomes meeting with anyone who wishes to explore possibilities and how to document his or her wishes so that they can be known by those who matter to them.
