The Chargers last won a game against then-named Rancho Santiago via forfeit in The losing streak was broken last Friday (September 28) when the Chargers upset the perennial powerhouses and defending conference champs Santa Ana with a tie at 1-1. Sophomore midfielder Andres Valencia scored the game-tying goal for Cypress. Freshman Megan Mulroney scored five goals in the Chargers 10-4 waterpolo victory last weekend against Santa Monica City. NOCCCD Trustees Approve District Budget for Fiscal Year The North Orange County Community College District budget was adopted by the Board of Trustees following a September 25 public hearing. The new budget includes $165,757,809 in revenues and $161,417,060 in expenses, leaving $4,340,749 in funds that are not yet allocated for Outstanding issues to which these unallocated funds may be applied during the year include: salary increases, retiree benefits, Maintenance and Operations staffing analysis for new facilities, and other construction project expenses. The new District budget compares to $155,245,523 in revenues, $146,098,659 in expenses, and $9,146,864 in unallocated funds at the beginning of Unallocated funds were much larger last year because more one-time funds were provided to the state s community college districts in ; the NOCCCD received approximately $8.5 million in total one-time funds last year, compared to about $1 million this year. Claudette Dain, District Director, Fiscal Affairs, and Rodrigo L. Garcia, District Manager, Fiscal Affairs reported during the public hearing that, while state allocations for are not as favorable as in the past few years, the NOCCCD budget is still good overall. They also reported that student enrollment continues to be a dominant factor in determining state allocations to the community college districts. For the NOCCCD, the budget is based on a fulltime equivalent students (FTES) target of 35, This represents District-wide growth of 1.25% over the past year when the District moved from a stabilization mode into a growth mode by increasing enrollment at each campus again. BRIEFLY A Study Habits & Skills Workshop will be held on Thursday, October 11, from 11 a.m.-noon, in CCC-414. No appointment or reservation is necessary. The Theatre Department, under the direction of Jim Hormel is presenting The Wizard of Oz, with opening night on October 12 The college has sent letters to about 650 new students, to share information about student support services and help them manage the challenges of the first semester of their college studies.
