2 Program Description The 24th Radiation Oncology Conference is a national symposium that provides state-of-the art information pertaining to current and evolving techniques and treatment options for patients with cancer. The theme of this year s program is Radiation Therapy from Basic to Novel Treatments. Sessions are designed to assist participants in integrating new knowledge into clinical practice pertaining to the entire trajectory of radiation treatment, multimodality treatment of site specific cancers, patient assessment, side effect management and quality of life initiatives. While the program provides an eclectic array of topics, a special focus will be placed on the treatment of head and neck cancers, spinal disease and sarcoma and prostate cancer. Target Audience Radiation Oncology Nurse Specialists Nurses practicing in a wide variety of settings who wish to broaden their horizons related to the care of patients with cancer. Radiation oncology therapists and medical dosimetrists wishing to update their knowledge about current trends and new developments in radiation treatment Graduate or undergraduate students in nursing who are considering a career in radiation oncology Successful Completion of this educational study requires: Return of the program validation form indicating sessions attended Completion and return of the program evaluation Continuing Education Credits Nurses is an approved provider of continuing nursing education by the Pennsylvania State Nurses Association, an accredited approver by the American Nurses Credentialing Center s Commission on Accreditation. 3 Conference Overview Broad Objectives: Attending this program should enable participants to: Apply evidence-based practice following the exploration of clinical, research, and technological advances in the multimodality treatment of cancer with a special emphasis on head and neck cancers, prostate cancer, spinal disease and brain cancer. Integrate recent advances in clinical practice and technology into the management of patients receiving radiation therapy. Describe patient assessment, symptom management and patient teaching for patients receiving various methods of radiation therapy. Develop a comprehensive care plan to monitor and manage patients receiving radiation and concurrent treatments for various types of cancer. Outline the role of the nurse in the management of side effects of radiotherapy to a variety of body sites. Explore clinical interventions which address the physical, emotional, and psychosocial needs of cancer patients and their families. In the event of cancellations or postponement by FCCC, the Center will fully refund your registration fee, but is not responsible for any related costs, charges or expenses to participants, including cancellation costs incurred by airlines/travel agencies. Cancellations initiated by the participant must be received by FCCC in writing by October 10th for a total refund. Refunds thereafter will be issued for the amount of the registration minus a $50.00 administrative fee. No refunds will be issued for cancellations received with 3 days of the program.
