1 21st Annual Nursing Research Conference Decision Making March 2, 2012 Mayo Clinic Rochester, Minnesota Mayo Continuing Nursing Education

2 General Information Conference description and goals The 21st Annual Nursing Research Conference will be held Friday, March 2, 2012 at Mayo Clinic, Rochester, Minnesota. This conference will focus on research related to decision making for advancing nursing practice and patient outcomes across the care continuum. Decision making may include clinical reasoning, decision making processes, and cultural influences on decision making. Examples of topics to be explored are decisions related to treatment options, patient self management, care giving, decision support tools, policy and legislation, and shared governance. The goals of the conference are to: Disseminate evidence related to various aspects of decision making research that influences nursing practice and/or patient outcomes. Promote opportunities for scholarly networking. Featured faculty Joanne (Jo) Rycroft-Malone, PhD, was appointed as Bangor University Director of Research in September Rycroft-Malone is a professor of Health Services and Implementation Research at the Centre for Health-Related Research in the School of Healthcare Sciences at Bangor University. She has a clinical background as a nurse, and later completed a BSc(Hons) and MSc in psychology, and her PhD in health sciences at the University of Southampton. Over the last ten years, Rycroft-Malone has been working with colleagues to develop, refine, and test a framework for the implementation of evidence into practice, called the Promoting Action on Research Implementation in Health Service (PARIHS) framework. Nationally and internationally, PARIHS has become a commonly used guiding framework for those undertaking practice and service change within health services, and more recently within the local police service. Rycroft-Malone currently sits on a number of international and national and strategy development, think tank and funding groups, including the National Institute for Health and Clinical Excellence (NICE) Implementation Strategy Group, the Canadian Institute for Health s Research Knowledge Exchange and Translation Committee and the National Institutes for Health Research Service Delivery and Organization Programme commissioning group. She is the inaugural editor of Worldviews on Evidence-Based Nursing, which has the highest impact factor of all international nursing journals.
