This presentation will explore music therapy in bereavement work including but not limited to a brief survey of music therapy research, clinical examples, and why music therapy can be a key component in grief work. Survey deficiencies pertaining to bereavement will be identified as well as what surveyors expect to see in your bereavement program. 2:00 PM -2:15 PM Break 2:15 PM 3:15 PM Utilizing the Arts through the Bereavement Process Dixie Moore, BA, M.A.A.T Trauma Informed Art Therapist and Educational Consultant Seasons Grief and Loss Center Art therapy is a part of the expressive therapies, which combines the creative process with the counseling relationship. Utilizing the arts in a bereavement setting requires specific training in order to protect your client during life s most difficult challenges, grief and loss. This presentation will explore safe media choice to utilize in your own practice. Through the experiential process you will develop a clearer understanding of media choice, media properties and the emotions they evoke in a therapeutic setting. Information on how to locate an art therapist in your community will be provided. 3:15 PM- 3:30 PM Wrap Up/Closing Remarks This presentation will focus on how hospice
3 2016 CONFERENCE OBJECTIVES n Understand the use and benefits of music and art therapy in the bereavement process n Identify important components of an effective memorial service n Identify innovative social media approaches to grief n Understand the components for facilitating a grief camp for children n Identify ways to offer community grief support in public tragedies n Understand required components of a hospice bereavement program survey TARGET AUDIENCE Bereavement Coordinators, Nurses, Social Workers, Chaplains, Volunteer Managers/ Coordinators, Administrators, Community Liaisons and all professionals dedicated to providing and improving end of life care. COMFORT: Bring a jacket/light sweater for your comfort as the temperature of the rooms can vary. PHOTOGRAPHY: will be taking photos throughout the seminar. Registration implies consent to be photographed and permission for to use the photos in its printed materials. CONTINUING EDUCATION In order to receive continuing education credits, the person must be a duly registered attendee of the conference AND complete an electronic conference evaluation form for each session attended. Certificates will be available on line to attendees requesting continuing education who sign the course attendance sheet, been in attendance throughout the course and completed an evaluation form. Persons who must leave early will receive credit proportional to their actual attendance. Social Worker Continuing Education Credit This organization,, DP # SWB 12003, is approved as a provider for continuing education by the Mississippi Board of Examiners for Social Workers and Marriage & Family Therapists. Approval period: 5/1/2017. Social Workers will receive up to 7.5 continuing education clock hours in participating in this course.
