2 Course Information Additional information is available at Who Should Attend This national multidisciplinary conference is designed for all healthcare professionals involved with the care of injured children, including surgeons, emergency medicine physicians, nurse practitioners, nurses, physician assistants, pre-hospital providers and social workers. Objectives Describe current treatment and technological advances that decrease pediatric death and disability. Discuss how trauma affects the physical and emotional future of the pediatric patient. Identify strategic measures to reduce the incidence of pediatric traumatic injuries. Accreditation is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME) to provide continuing medical education for physicians. AMA Credit Designation designates this live activity for a maximum of 14 AMA PRA Category 1 Credits. Physicians should claim only the credit commensurate with the extent of their participation in the activity. Note: The optional lunch sessions held on both Friday and Saturday are accredited for 1.0 AMA PRA Category 1 Credits. American Board of Surgery (ABS) Maintenance of Certification (MOC) TBD hours of credit qualify for Part 2 of the ABS MOC, Lifelong Learning and Self Assessment. Nursing Accreditation This activity (both the conference and the optional lunch sessions) has been submitted to the PA State Nurses Association for approval to award contact hours. The PA State Nurses Association is accredited as an approver of continuing nursing education by the American Nurses Credentialing Center s Commission on Accreditation. EMS Accreditation is approved as a provider of continuing EMS education by the Pennsylvania Department of Health. An application for Pennsylvania EMS credit has been submitted. This course is for advanced pre-hospital providers. Social Work Accreditation The conference is approved for 13.5 CEUs by the Pennsylvania Board of Social Workers, Marriage and Family Therapists and Professional Counselors. Call for Abstracts The oral abstract and poster sessions will focus on topics of interest and importance to all clinicians involved in the care of pediatric trauma patients. Abstracts will only be accepted for review until the submission deadline, Monday, Dec. 1, Abstracts accepted for oral presentation will be considered for publication in the Journal of Pediatric Surgery. 3 Trauma Outcomes and Performance Improvement Course Thursday, March 5, 2015 Course Overview Be the first to attend an STN TOPIC course designed to meet the needs of pediatric providers! The Society of Trauma Nurses TOPIC course is taught to all members of the trauma system team who participate in the assessment, evaluation and improvement of trauma care. The Trauma Outcomes and Performance Improvement Course (TOPIC) is taught in a oneday interactive modular format, customized to best meet the needs of the individual trauma care provider participants who have varying levels of experience with trauma performance improvement. The course offers practical application for all levels of trauma centers, from entry level to mature phase of program development. The modules are taught with a focus on didactic, operational definitions, sample tools, case study examples and take-home points. The cost is $350. For more information and to register, go to Physician Continuing Medical Education This activity has been planned and implemented in accordance with the Essential Areas and policies of the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education through the joint providership of the University of Kentucky College of Medicine and Society of Trauma Nurses.
