Industry work placements are a key element of many of our courses so that you can build your professional skills while you study and be employment ready on graduation. Work placements allow you to develop your skills and training in a professional environment; gain new skills and real experience as well as developing valuable industry knowledge. Choose to study with TAFE SA and you ll gain the right industry skills and knowledge, real life experience and the confidence to get to the career you want. Nursing students not only get the chance to learn in the classroom but they will also go on placement to give them the opportunity to learn and practice their practical nursing skills. 3 Agriculture and Science Certificate IV in Veterinary Nursing D / ACM40412 Diploma of Animal Technology G / ACM50110 Diploma of Laboratory Technology A / MSL hrs The four week placement occurs during the mid-year break and for one day per week during semester 2. The outcomes of the work placement are directly linked to program course work and learning outcomes. This work placement is unpaid. 175 hrs There are two placements of four weeks each. The first placement takes place between semester 1 and 2. The second placement occurs in October to November. TAFE SA assists the student in finding the work placement. The outcomes of the work placement are directly linked to program course work and learning outcomes. This work placement is unpaid. 240 hrs The work placement occurs during semester 2. TAFE SA will organise the work placement for the student. The outcomes of the work placement are directly linked to program course work and learning outcomes. This work placement is unpaid. Arts and Design Certificate IV in Live Production and Technical Services D / CUA40413 Diploma of Live Production & Technical Services J / CUA hrs Students will undertake 4 weeks (or more) of full-time placement in oncampus productions during semester 1 and 2. This work placement is unpaid. 280 hrs Students will undertake 10 weeks (or more) of full time placement in local or on campus productions during semester 1 and 2. This work placement is unpaid. Community and Health Certificate III in Early Childhood Education and Care F / CHC30113 Diploma of Early Childhood Education and Care E / CHC50113 Diploma of Community Services BE / CHC Certificate III in Individual Support (Ageing) G / CHC hrs The work placement is scheduled during the semester for 4 weeks at 35 hours per week. This work placement is unpaid. 480 hrs The work placement is scheduled during the four semesters for a minimum of 40 days. This work placement is unpaid. 400 hrs There are two placements; one of 140 hours and one of 260 hours which are scheduled during the two years of the program. TAFE SA will assist students in organising suitable placements. The outcomes of the work placement are directly linked to program course work and learning outcomes. This work placement is unpaid. 120 hrs In the last 4 weeks of the 2nd term of study, students will undertake 120 hours full time vocational placement. Students must obtain a National Police Clearance at their own cost before the start of their placement. TAFE SA is responsible for finding a suitable placement for the student. During the work placement and under supervision the student carries out the duties of an aged care worker in a residential aged care facility. Aged care workers support older people to carry out their Activities of Daily Living (ADL s) e.g. Having a shower, grooming, going to the toilet, eating and drinking mobilising from room to room. The key outcome of placement is for the student to demonstrate competency in the skills of an aged care worker. This work placement is unpaid. TAFE SA INTERNATIONAL INDUSTRY WORK PLACEMENTS

4 Community and Health Diploma of Nursing (Enrolled- Division 2 Nursing) E / HLT hrs (minimum) There are compulsory clinical placements in acute, aged and community settings and students will be required to undertake these placements in a range of health care settings. Clinical placement is undertaken each semester over 3 semesters. TAFE SA organises all aspects of placement on the student s behalf. Placement will consolidate the theory and skills delivered in class. Key outcomes of the work placement are: to understand the role of an enrolled nurse and practice skills relevant to each work placement. Certificate IV in Massage Therapy A / HLT40312 Diploma of Remedial Massage M / HLT50307 Diploma of Reflexology B / HLT51712 Diploma of Aromatherapy D / HLT hrs Work placement for this course will be a combination of campus clinic placement and negotiated field placements and/or events completed under supervision. Placement is compulsory for the completion of this qualification and will consolidate the theory and skills delivered in class. Key outcomes of the work placement are: practice skills and perform activities relevant to client consultation work. 200 hrs Work placement for this course will be a combination of campus clinic placement and negotiated field placements/events completed under supervision. 5 Community and Health Diploma of Dental Technology B / HLT50512 Advanced Diploma of Oral Health G / 40633SA 98 hrs First year Dental Technology students attend work placement in semesters 1 and 2 at the Adelaide Dental Hospital. This is organised through TAFE SA. During the placement, first year students work on patient cases under the supervision of qualified dental technicians working for SA Dental. Key outcomes of the work placement allows the students to put into practice the skills they have been learning during the course at TAFE SA. Second year students are encouraged to seek their own industry placement in commercial laboratories. Many students have gained employment through participating in this. All work placements are unpaid. 386 hrs Work placement is undertaken across the whole qualification with the larger part of the placement in the second year. TAFE SA organises the work placement for students. Work placement includes:- Orthodontic visits to a public dental hospital treat patients in various orthodontic procedures within the scope of the dental hygienist. Aged Care - visits to aged care facilities to carry out preventative oral hygiene procedures Special Needs visits to a public dental hospital to observe procedures for medically compromised patients. TAFE SA Dental Clinic where students provide patients with a range of procedures within the scope of the dental hygienist. The TAFE SA dental clinic is a 28 chair functioning dental clinic. All surgeries are self-contained, rather than relying on central assisting station, in order to replicate a typical workplace where the practitioner manages their own treatment environment. Students also select 1 of 3 elective subjects and these placements equate to approximately 8 placement hours. All work placements are under the supervision and direction of a qualified health practitioner. Key outcomes of placement enhanced learning enable practical skills training and practice clinical skills in a real life clinical environment. All work placements are unpaid. 6 Electrical and Electronics Diploma of Electronics and Communications Engineering G / UEE50511 Advanced Diploma of Electronics and Communications Engineering M / UEE60211 Associate Degree in Electronics Engineering J / CRS hrs The work placement can be scheduled at any time during the program. It is recommended that students complete the placement in the last term when they have allocated time for it. TAFE SA assists the student in finding the work placement by providing a list of potential work placements. The students need to contact the employers themselves. TAFE SA will assist the student if the student is not able to organise a work placement. Example of what a student does on a work placement: assembly, test and repair of electronic equipment Key outcomes of the work placement: develop employability skills, better understanding of the Australian work environment, practical skills development. 72 hrs The work placement can be scheduled at any time during the program. It is recommended that students complete the placement in the last term when they have allocated time for it. This involves regular meetings with industry representatives and it may mean extra opportunities for more days of work placement. Examples of projects: Tester for automotive power gauges (Redarc), Network cable performance testing system (Codan), Standalone data logger (Minelab). The projects are assessed by a panel of industry representatives. Example of what a student does on a work placement: design and implementation of prototypes, assembly, test and repair of electronic equipment. Key outcomes of the work placement: develop employability skills, better understanding of the Australian work environment, practical skills and project management and design skills development. 4 TAFE SA INTERNATIONAL INDUSTRY WORK PLACEMENTS 2016

7 Engineering and Transport Certificate III in Light Vehicle Mechanical Technology G / AUR30612 Certificate IV in Automotive Mechanical Diagnosis J / AUR40212 Diploma of Automotive Technology K / AUR50212 Diploma of Automotive Management M / AUR hrs To complete the Certificate III in Light Vehicle Mechanical Technology the student will be required to complete 4 weeks (38 hrs per week) or a total of 152 hours of on-job work placement. The work placement will be carried out in a pre-approved mechanical workshop to enhance the skills and knowledge gained during the learning period. Students are encouraged to find their own placement in a suitable workplace. Assistance from TAFE SA to find a suitable placement is available if required. 152 hrs To complete the Certificate IV in Mechanical Diagnosis the student will be required to complete two blocks of two weeks (38 hours per week) over two terms in one semester of on-job work placement The work placement will be carried out in a pre-approved mechanical workshop to enhance the skills and knowledge gained during the learning period. Students are encouraged to find their own placement in a suitable workplace. Assistance from TAFE SA to find a suitable placement is available if required. 152 hrs To complete the Diploma in Automotive Technology the student will be required to complete two blocks of two weeks (38 hours per week) over two terms in one semester of on-job work placement The work placement will be carried out in a pre-approved mechanical workshop to enhance the skills and knowledge gained during the learning period Students are encouraged to find their own placement in a suitable workplace. Assistance from TAFE SA to find a suitable placement is available if required. 380 hrs To complete the Diploma in Automotive Management the student will be required to complete five two week blocks of on-job work placement over two consecutive semesters. The work placement is required to gain firsthand knowledge and practical experience to complete some of the project requirements to complete the certificate. Students are encouraged to find their own placement in a suitable workplace. Assistance from TAFE SA to find a suitable placement is available if required. be available if necessary. 8 Food and Beverage Certificate III in Retail Baking (Combined) J / FDF30710 Certificate III in Patisserie J / SIT31113 Certificate III in Commercial Cookery M / SIT hrs Students will complete 24 weeks (25 hours per week) of work/industrial placement during the 2nd semester of this Certificate III course. 240 hrs During Semester 2 students will undertake 16 hours of work/industry placement for 15 weeks. 400 hrs During Semester 2 students will undertake 20 hours of work/industry placement for 20 weeks totalling 400 hours. Hair and Beauty Certificate III in Hairdressing E / SIH30111 Certificate III in Beauty Services K / SIB hrs Students will complete 965 hours of work placement commencing in their 1st semester and continuing through their final semester of the course. Students will undertake their placement at the TAFE SA salon on campus. Students are able to arrange their own placement at a salon. 40 hrs Students will complete 20 hours of work placement per semester at the TAFE SA Salon (on campus). This will consist of 5 hours per week for 8 weeks during both semesters. Students are able to arrange their own placement at a salon. Hospitality and Tourim Certificate III in Hospitality C / SIT hrs As part of the Certificate III in Hospitality, students will undertake a total of 200 work placement hours. Students will be expected to commence their work placement in the 2nd half of their Certificate III studies and complete as soon as possible and preferably before the beginning of the Certificate IV in Hospitality. Where students cannot complete their placement before beginning the Certificate IV, they will need to complete their placement during the Certificate IV and before starting their Advanced Diploma. 6 TAFE SA INTERNATIONAL INDUSTRY WORK PLACEMENTS 2016

9 Information Technology Diploma of Software Development J / ICT50715 Diploma of Digital Media Technologies B / ICT50915 Diploma of Website Development K / ICT hrs hrs hrs Students will complete a 4-6 week vocational placement or part time equivalent in the final stages of their Diploma. This will consist of a placement within their specific industry following the TAFE SA Vocational Placement Package guidelines. TAFE SA can provide assistance in finding places, but the students are encouraged to find their own. If the student cannot find a placement, they can work on real-world or simulated client projects as a team with other TAFE SA students. The placement or project is linked to specific competencies in the Diploma. The outcomes of the placement or project provide opportunities for students to network with people that work in the industry and opportunities to showcase technical and employability skills. Students typically start with writing and running test harnesses and then go on to work on programming with the assistance of their team. An example would be bug fixes and additional features to C# web apps. Students will complete a 4-6 week vocational placement or part time equivalent in the final stages of their Diploma. This will consist of a placement within their specific industry following the TAFE SA Vocational Placement Package guidelines. TAFE SA can provide assistance in finding places, but the students are encouraged to find their own. If the student cannot find a placement, they can work on real-world or simulated client projects as a team with other TAFE SA students. The placement or project is linked to specific competencies in the Diploma. The outcomes of the placement or project provide opportunities for students to network with people that work in the industry and opportunities to showcase technical and employability skills.
