2 2 Table of Contents general information General Information... Page 2 The offices of the Parks & Recreation Department are located on 315 E. Palm Drive, Edinburg. Office hours are 8:00 a.m. to 12:00 noon and 1:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. Monday through Friday. Registration Information for Family Recreation Programs Registration will be held from May 28, through June 7, 2013, for session I and will conduct Session II registration from June 24, through July 5, Registration for the exciting recreation programs will be gladly accepted at the Edinburg Parks and Recreation Department located on 315 E. Palm Dr., Edinburg, Monday through Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. or by mailing the registration form(s) and making checks payable to the City of Edinburg Parks & Recreation Department, P.O. Box 1079, Edinburg, TX Refunds and transfers may be granted by stopping by the Edinburg Parks & Recreation Department located on 315 E. Palm Drive, Edinburg, Texas, or by calling at (956) A $3. per class/program administrative fee will be assessed on all refunds except when the class is cancelled by the Edinburg Parks & Recreation Department. Casas, Right of Way Superintendent, with the assistance of Oscar Moreno, Right of Way Supervisor. The Right of Way Division covers 36.7 square miles through out the City of Edinburg with thirteen employees. Items covered by staff are mowing, weed eating, tree and palm tree trimming pick up trash and debris along the road way, removal of signs on light poles plus other additional duties.

4 Athletic Camps Ramiro Moreno Superintendent of Recreation Sergio Archer Program Supervisor Girls Basketball Camp Esmeralda Cerda Program Supervisor I The 12th Annual Girls Basketball Camp focuses on teaching youngsters, ages 5 through 12 or incoming seventh grade, fundamental skills and techniques of basketball. The all girl s basketball camp will consist of agility drills, basketball handling and shooting techniques. The Basketball Camp is designed for girls ONLY who wish to learn new skills or improve on their existing skills. Edinburg School Basketball Coaches will assist in instructing this program. The Girls Basketball Camp program duration is June 10-13, Registration Fees:... $30. Class Times:...1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. Youth Volleyball Camp The 14th Annual Youth Volleyball Camp focuses on teaching youngsters, ages 5 through 12 or incoming seventh grade, fundamental skills and techniques of volleyball. There will be demonstrations, agility, drills, and games. The Volleyball Camp is designed for girls ONLY who wish to learn new skills or improve on their existing skills. Edinburg School Volleyball Coaches will assist in instructing this program. The Youth Volleyball Camp program duration is June 17-20, Registration Fees:... $30. The soccer camp will consist of agility drills, soccer dribbling, passing, and kicking techniques. The Soccer Camp is designed for boys and girls who wishes to learn new skills or improve on their existing skills. Edinburg School Soccer Coaches will assist in instructing this program. The Edinburg Parks and Recreation Department will be sponsoring a Youth Tennis Program for boys and girls ages 5-17 years of age. It will create and maintain a child=s interest in tennis by combining fun and team spirit into learning. Everyone plays no one is cut, so everyone wins in his/her way. Drills, games, simplified rules, scoring and match play motivates new players to learn tennis. Program duration is from June 3, 2013, through July 23, Instructor will be announced. ALL Participants must provide their own transportation & accommodations to each tennis meet. Approximate program times are subject to change with participation. Classes will not be rescheduled due to inclement weather. TAAF Region 2 Tennis Tournament July in Edinburg. ONLY the top 3 TAAF Region 2 Qualifiers for each age group event will be taken to the TAAF State Games scheduled for July 24-28, 2013 in Corpus Christi, Texas. The City of Edinburg will sponsor a track & field program for all boys and girls 5-17 years of age. The program will address all facets of track and field during the program duration. Participants will have the opportunity to showcase their talents during scheduled track and field meets. Participants will compete in a variety of events in age group pairings. All practices will be conducted at Cats Stadium. The track & field coach will be announced. Program duration is May 13, 2013 through July 23, 2013, Monday through Friday. Program Fees:...$40. A Gus and Goldie T-Shirt is included with each registration while supplies last. There is no need to register for a specific level. All participants will be placed into classes according to their age and skills. On the first class period, all students will be observed and tested to ensure they are in the appropriate level. If you know your child s current level, please indicate this to the instructor. This will aid the instructors in placing your child in the appropriate class. No refunds after the first day of class Due to the scheduled programming, we can not accommodate for make up days on inclement weather. Tadpoles Ages 6 months to 47 months. This Parent Baby program is intended to help the child develop a comfort level in and around the water. The class will also provide the parent with the necessary knowledge and skills to orient the child to the water and to safely supervise all water activities. One parent must accompany the child in water. Swim diapers are required for diaper dependent children. Class is held in the evening only, and class size is limited to 20 students frogs The othe objective of Level I is to help students feel comfortable in the water and to enjoy the water safely. This class is very elementary and focuses on getting acquainted with the water. This class includes more games and water play due to the nature of the class. If the student has had a previous pleasant water experience, they may be able to begin the program at Level II. Jellyfish The objective of Level II is to provide students with fundamental swimming skills. Students learn to float without support and to recover to a vertical position. This level marks the beginning of true locomotion skills. Prerequisites include the ability to put the face completely under water, bob up and down in the water, and float on front and back part of the body with support. *Instructors reserve the right to determine your child s level of performance and place them accordingly. Class size is limited. LEARN TO SWIM COURSES seahorse The objective of Level III is to build on the skills learned in Level II by providing additional guided practice. Students will be introduced to the Butterfly and the fundamentals of treading water. Other skills taught include rules for safe diving, diving from the side of the pool and coordination of the front crawl and back crawl. minnows The objective of Level IV is to develop confidence in the strokes learned thus far and to improve other aquatic skills. Students will continue to work on Butterfly, front crawl, and back crawl. Breaststroke, Elementary Backstroke, and sidestroke are introduced as well as the basics of turning at the pool wall. dolphins The objective of Level V is coordination and refinement of key strokes with special emphasis on the all strokes taught in each level. Skills introduced include the butterfly, open turns, the feet-first surface dive, and springboard diving. sharks The objective of Level VI is to polish strokes so students swim with efficiency, power, and smoothness over greater distances. Students will develop endurance, learn the pike, and tuck surface dives and additional turns. Session I Personal Water Safety, Session II Fundamentals of Diving, and Session III Fitness Swimmer. ADULT LEARN TO SWIM This program is designed for adults 15 years of age and older who wish to learn how to swim or just improve on their existing skills.
