10 for youth development NURTURING THE POtential OF EVery CHILD AND TEEN The Y is the starting point for many youth to learn about becoming and staying active, and developing healthy habits they will carry with them throughout their lives. The benefits are far greater than just physical. When kids play sports or learn to swim, they can build confidence, discover their personal best, have fun and be a part of a team.

11 away camp Enroll your child in magic. YMCA Away Camp has been giving kids the summers of their lives for more than a decade, adding laughter, leadership and lifelong memories to a host of activities including swimming, archery, and rock climbing. Away camp is the perfect opportunity for your child to get away for the week and create new and lasting memories with campers from all over Santa Barbara and Ventura County. This year our youth and teen campers will be going to beautiful Lake Sequoia. Youth campers, 4th through 7th grade, will be in the Upper Gaines Camp and participate in the YMCA Leathers program, while teen campers, 7th - 10th, will be at the Lower Gaines Camp and participate in the YMCA Rags Program. 7th grade students have the option of attending either camp. YMCA LEATHerS The YMCA Rag / Leather Program is designed to help youth take a closer look at themselves in relationship to their own strengths and weaknesses and to those around them. It can be a major factor in creating an atmosphere in which positive change can take place. The Rags and Leathers are outward symbols of the acceptance of inner challenges as they relate to the Y s core values. Each Leather and Rag has a specific challenge and is accompanied by a personal challenge for growth developed by the individual. 22 20 youth sports youth sports Youth Sports teaches sports skills to make it more fun and exciting for emerging athletes. Each program utilizes the Y's seven principles: everyone plays, safety first, fair play, positive competition, family involvement, sports for all and sports for fun. It's not whether you win or lose, it's how you learn the game. At the Y, kids develop all of their skills, from catching and dribbling to teamwork and sportsmanship. Just as important, they learn firsthand the benefits of being healthy and active--and that virtual games just can't compare to the real thing. 4 week classes members: $30 program members: $60 itty bitty soccer (3-4 years) June 26th - July 19th June 26th - July 19th Tuesday & Thursday youth soccer (5-7 years) July 24th - August 16th Tuesday & Thursday itty bitty basketball (3-4 years) Tuesday & Thursday youth basketball (5-7 years) July 24th - August 16th Tuesday & Thursday 3:30-4:00 p.m :00-4:45 p.m :00-4:30 p.m :00-5:45 p.m week classes members: $25 program members: $50 youth soccer (8-12 years) June 27th - August 8th Wednesday 4:45-5:30 p.m youth racquetball (7-12 years) June 28th - August 2nd Thursday 5:00-5:45 p.m itty bitty basketball (3-4 years) June 25th - July 30th Monday 4:15-4:45 p.m youth basketball (5-7 years) June 25th - July 30th Monday 5:00-5:45 p.m week classes members: $30 program members: $60 itty bitty soccer (3-4 years)* June 27th - August 15th Wednesday 3:30-4:00 p.m *No classes July 4th
