3 FROM THE PASTOR S DESK... Dear Parishioners, The Feast of the Baptism of the Lord marks the end of the Christmas Season. On behalf of Fr. Gary, Fr. Angel and myself, I would like to thank you for your Christmas cards, gifts, and most of all, your prayers throughout the Christmas Season. When Jesus was baptized in the River Jordan by John the Baptist, a voice came from above saying, You are my beloved Son; with you I am well pleased. Today is the Baptism of the Lord, a day to celebrate our faith in Christ, the anointed Servant of God. Rising from the waters, Jesus began his ministry of healing, teaching and proclaiming the Good News of salvation. We the baptized share in the mission of Christ. We are called to spread the Good News through our actions of justice, charity and love. May we be inspired to renew our baptismal commitment daily, and become instruments of God s mercy in this world. God s Blessings, Fr. Padre Jim Schuerman PRAYER FOR OUR TROOPS Lord, hold our troops in Your loving hands. Bless them and their families for the selfless acts they perform for us. Protect those who are stationed overseas, especially Michael Zagorski, who is in the in the Army Special Forces. McGivney invited a group of parishioners to gather together and establish an order that would unite men in their faith as well as help provide for Catholic families in times of need. Guided by four core principals, charity, unity, fraternity and patriotism, these founding members strove to overcome the hardships of the time, poverty, unemployment and religious persecution. Today, the Knights of Columbus are the largest Catholic fraternal and humanitarian organizations ever created. Lake Geneva Council 1647 was established in 1912 and has been in existence for 101 years. The goal of the Knights is support parish ministries and provide service to the parish. In order to keep doing this, we need to continue to recruit new members. We hope that you will consider becoming a member of the Knights of Columbus. We invite you to join us and become part of an organization that not only provides support and services to our parish of St. Francis de Sales, but also provides friendship, fellowship and an opportunity to practice the core values of charity, unity, fraternity and patriotism in our community. If you would like to find out more about the Knights and how you can become a member of our organization, contact Bill Rorig ( ) or Ken Cramer ( ). Also, the second Sunday of each month is the KC Breakfast and is a great opportunity to talk to any one of the Knights working there!.

SCHOOL NEWS Our St. Francis de Sales Parish School 7 th and 8 th Grade Classes took a field trip to go shopping at Target on Dec. 20. The trip was part of a service project that the entire school participated in. In lieu of the traditional gift exchange among students, six local families in need were chosen to be recipients of gifts from Santa. The students from all grades brought in money to help purchase gifts for each family. Almost $1,300 was raised to purchase the gifts. After a lesson on budgeting and ideas on good shopping techniques, our Middle School students, with shopping lists in hand, scoured Target looking for the best deals and presents for their families. We would like to extend our sincere gratitude to the people at Target for allowing our Middle School students along with chaperones to shop at their store and for all of their helpfulness. We also want to thank all of our parent drivers and assistant shoppers - Madeleine Engerman, Robin Kokodynski, Vickie Peck and Royce Robinson. Finally, we would like to thank our Middle School Team of Kim Vanderwerff and June Wozny for teaching a unit on budgeting and shopping as well as organizing the shopping excursion! Great job, everyone!
