3 FROM THE PASTOR S DESK Dear Parishioners and Friends of St. Francis de Sales Parish, The Gospel today is the story of the woman caught in adultery. According to the law, her sin carried the weight of a capital offense, and she was about to be stoned to death. But Jesus freed her from this punishment by facing her accusers and saying, Let the one among you be who is without sin be the first to throw a stone at her. (John 8:7b) Hearing what Jesus said, one by one her accusers left, until only the woman remained with Jesus and Jesus, the only one without sin, did not condemn her. He simply said, Go, and from now on do not sin anymore. (John 8:11b) We all know how easy it is to fall into sin. The Gospel teaches us that God alone can judge our hearts, and in the life and works of Jesus Christ, God reveals himself to be infinitely just and merciful. At the conclusion of today s Gospel, Jesus pardons the woman and exhorts her to undergo a true conversion. The Lenten season provides us with ample opportunities to repent and accept the Good News of Jesus Christ. May the Holy Spirit inspire us to share the Good News with all we meet. God s Blessings, Fr. Que Dios los bendiga, Padre Jim Schuerman SATURDAY MORNING MASS Mass will be held at 8 a.m. at St. Francis de Sales on Saturdays during Lent. 4 THE ONE MILLION CHALLENGE FOR THE JUBILEE YEAR OF MERCY You may have read in last week s bulletin that we at St. Francis, working with St. Benedict s, St Catherine s and our parish school have taken up a challenge. We have committed to giving One Million hours of volunteering to celebrate the Jubilee Year of Mercy. Since the Jubilee Year actually began back in December of 2015, we will be back tracking to locate all of the volunteer hours already completed. Even with all of those hours, we will need a huge amount of volunteering as we go forward until the Jubilee Year ends in November Scary? Yes and no. As mentioned in last week s bulletin, volunteering and mercy go hand in hand. Volunteering does not require a long term commitment, one hour, one good deed qualifies. One hour to help decorate the church for Easter, one hour to help at a funeral luncheon, one hour to bake for a bake sale, these all add up and need to be recorded toward our goal. Anybody can be somebody s hero. Did you visit a sick friend or take them to the doctor? Did you attend a Bible Study? Did you help clean up after Irish Fest? Take a walk through our Door of Mercy. Volunteering and mercy do go hand in hand, say to yourself, I can do that or I have done that. Of course we do have many established ministries that are always looking for new members. Think about it. Volunteering is at the very core of being human. No one has made it through life without someone else s help. THE POPE S PRAYER INTENTIONS FOR MARCH 2016 Families in Difficulty That families in need may receive the necessary support and that children may grow up in healthy and peaceful environments. Persecuted Christians That those Christians who, on account of their faith, are discriminated against or are being persecuted, may remain strong and faithful to the Gospel, thanks to the incessant prayer of the Church. While making plans for the future of St. Francis de Sales church, the Project 2017 committee has been researching the past by studying vintage photos. Part of the church renovation goals involve bringing back some of the building s original architectural features. Built in 1892, the building has gone through several different remodeling phases. If you have photos, old bulletins, postcards, wedding pictures, news articles, etc. that you would like to share we would love to see them. We are using these things to inspire some of the design portions of our current project. We are also starting to create a collection that we hope to have on display next year for the 175th (!) celebration of the existence of St. Francis de Sales Parish. If you want to keep your treasures, we can borrow and scan them to make a copy. Please contact Martha at (262) to arrange to drop off any historical items. THANK YOU Dear Friends of St. Francis de Sales Parish, Many, many thanks for your Christmas gift to the Lake Geneva Food Pantry! Your generosity helped feed so many in our midst and continues to stock our shelves. On behalf of all who come to us for help in feeding their families - thank you! We are blessed beyond belief by our partnership with you! Sincerely, Lake Geneva Food Pantry Staff
