3 FROM THE PASTOR S DESK Dear Parishioners, Today is the Feast of the Baptism of the Lord, marking the close of the Christmas Season. I found this Christmas Season to be particularly prayerful and spiritually uplifting. I would like to thank all those who helped to make our liturgical celebrations beautiful the musicians, singers, servers, readers, Eucharistic ministers, decorators and all who participated in the Christmas celebrations. Thanks, also, for all your cards, gifts and special prayers during this festive season! In today s Gospel, when Jesus was baptized in the River Jordan by John the Baptist, a voice came from the heavens saying, You are my beloved Son; with you I am well pleased. (Mark 1:11b) Today we celebrate our faith in Christ, the Son of God, who came to bring salvation to the world. Rising from the waters, Jesus began his ministry of healing, teaching and proclaiming the Good News of God s Kingdom. We the baptized share in the mission of Christ. We are called to spread the Good News through our actions of justice, charity and love. May we, who are marked with the waters of baptism, truly learn to proclaim Christ by lives of holiness. Thank you, thank you! Sincerely, Lake Geneva Food Pantry WANTED: A FEW GOOD MEN Walworth County Men s Shelter will be at the Chapel on the Hill for one week in January, as well as a week in February. St. Francis de Sales partners with the Chapel on the Hill to provide several suppers, groceries and overnight chaperones. What a wonderful way to start out the new year by offering shelter to those without a home of their own. Could several men of the parish cover one night as chaperones together? That s the greatest need. The chaperones sleep in a separate room. A chaperone partner will be provided if needed. Please give this prayerful thought. Interested? FRANCIS BIBLE STUDY GROUP The Wednesday Morning Bible Study will begin its next session on Wednesday, Jan. 21, and will end on April 22. Our study will be the Acts of theapostles. In the Acts of the Apostles, we will learn about the early believers in their struggle to establish communities of faith struggles surprisingly like those of today. We will also meet two of the early church s most significant leaders in the persons of Peter and Paul. The Bible Class meets each Wednesday at St Francis at 10:15 a.m. There is a $16.50 fee for the two books for the class. This fee can be paid at the first class. REBUILT Thursday, Jan. 15 6:30 8:00 p.m. St. Andrew cafeteria, Delavan St. Andrew s will begin offering a monthly discussion/presentation based on the book Rebuilt. Cardinal Timothy Dolan wrote, If you love your parish, read this book. This is the compelling and inspiring story about how two ordinary parish leaders brought their parish back to life. We invite you to join us this evening as part of our Dishing with the Disciples offering. We hope to have conversations about parish mission, ministry, and life in light of the Gospel mandate, Go and make disciples! Purchase of the book is not required, but if you want to purchase the book, St. Andrew has a limited supply on sale at the rectory for $ Facilitators for Dishing are Deacon Phil Kilkenny and Patty Kostechka. This is an opportunity for Adult Christian Formation. Please consider joining us. We ask that if you feel in the mood, to bring a snack to feed four people, but it is not a requirement. CELL PHONE COLLECTION The Knights of Columbus have placed a cell phone recycling box in the parish library to raise funds for Wisconsin Special Olympics. Thank you for thinking of this fundraiser whenever you are ready to toss out your cell phone.

5 S CHOOL ADVISORY COMMITTEE - NEW MEMBER NEEDED Are you looking for a way to share your time and talent while promoting Catholic Education? The School Advisory Committee is looking to fill one open member position. Meetings are held every second Monday of the month during the school year. Members serve a three year term. School Advisory assists the principal and pastor with policy development, educational goals and objectives of the school, budget planning and public relations. It is a great opportunity to contribute to the success of the school while staying informed. Parishioners with an interest or background in marketing or development are strongly encouraged to apply! ANGEL FUND St. Francis de Sales Parish School is benefited by the Angel Fund. This is a designated fund that was started to help families of our day school program who are in need of tuition assistance. It is funded by donations from generous parishioners and by bequests. If a school family is in need of tuition assistance, they apply to a company called TADS. This application can be done either online or on paper, and it is completely confidential. Applications are available in either the school or parish offices. TADS make a financial determination as to how much tuition the family can be expected to pay. If you would like to donate to this worthy cause, please use the pink envelopes in your packets, or earmark your check or cash for the Angel Fund. ST. FRANCIS DE SALES BINGO Every first and third Wednesday of the month. The tentative date for the trip is July 10-12, All incoming freshman-seniors for the 2015/2016 school year are invited to go. High School Seniors graduating in May 2015 are encouraged to attend as well. While they will be considered participants at the conference, they also will have a leadership role during this trip. 6 VOLUNTEER SPOTLIGHT You probably recognize this guy! He wears many hats at St. Francis de Sales and has done so since he joined the parish in Ray Wrobleski has been an usher for 34 years at St. Francis de Sales (and for 20 years before that at his former parish in Milwaukee!). He has faithfully passed the basket and seated people almost every Sunday. Until recently, he was the people counter at Mass. You might be interested to know that we are assigned to have counts done on assigned weekends by the Archdiocese. Ray would go up into the loft for a portion of each of our five weekend Masses and take a head count for our report. He says even though the count would fluctuate a bit depending on the Sunday, that all in all it has been consistent over the past 20 years that he took on this responsibility. Probably the least visible job that he does is as the treasurer of the St. Francis de Sales Cemetery Committee. Over the years the committee has dwindled to one person (Ray), so he has many duties there. He was instrumental in having a sign designed and installed, and had some of the roads repaved. Ray coordinates the paperwork of selling the cemetery plots and mausoleum niches, pays the bills, oversees the perpetual care investments and makes sure that the landscaping is maintained. If you ve never been there, the cemetery is about a mile east of the church on Highway 50 on the south side of the road. And if that wasn t enough, Ray is also a member of the Knights of Columbus and helps serve at the KC breakfast each month. He and his wife Lorraine (also an amazing volunteer) have five children who live in Florida, California and Wisconsin. Thank you, Ray, for doing ALL of these things for St. Francis de Sales! You are a blessing! MINISTRY SPOTLIGHT There is a new ministry at St. Francis! The Arimatheans, named after Joseph of Arimathea, attend funerals to represent the parish and guide the families in the responses and protocol of the Mass. Pictured here are some of the people who helped with a recent funeral. The group welcomes n e w members, and you can attend as your schedule permits. If this sounds l i k e something that you would like to do, please call Marilyn Brandel at (262) CATHOLIC CENTRAL NEWS Catholic Central s 30th Annual Topper Dinner and Auction/Car Raffle, held at the Veterans Terrace on Dec. 6, proved to be another successful event for the local Catholic high school. Guests enjoyed a delicious array of hor d oeuvres and a delicious dinner served by Gooseberries Courtyard Catering. More than 250 items were auctioned off through silent and oral bids and included: gourmet dinners, services, vacations, and even a Springer Spaniel puppy, to name a few. The evening concluded with dancing to music provided by 2013 alum, Jeremy Kuta. The $15,000 grand prize (car raffle) winner was Joyce Spiegelhoff. Second through fourth prize winners were: $750-Monica Hochevar; $500-Hermelinda Chavez; and $200-Laura McCarthy. Although final numbers are not yet available, 472 car raffle tickets were sold and $16,000 was raised for the school s new bell/phone system. Harvey s Heroes Quilt Winner Thank you to all that purchased raffle tickets for the CCHS quilt raffle! And congratulations to Sue Fitzgerald! Sue was the lucky winner of the Catholic Central High School Harvey s Heroes quilt raffle. The beautiful handmade quilt was donated by Fay Poudrier of Burlington. The raffle drawing took place at halftime of the CC Boys Varsity basketball game against Shoreland Lutheran. Sue is a member of St. John the Evangelist parish in Twin Lakes.
