Pleasant Rad Greensburg, PA Band camp away frm hme is an exciting adventure fr participating students, parents and staff and is a wnderful pprtunity fr the verall band prgram. The fllwing is a shrt handbk f infrmatin t help everyne prepare fr and successfully get thrugh this critical phase f the marching seasn. This handbk is separate frm the regular handbk, and is simply t clarify the safety prcedures, rules, and expectatins fr ur week lng vernight trip. N student may participate in the Brentwd Band withut attending band camp. Each member must pay $247.00, which cvers the cst f husing in an air-cnditined university drmitry (4 students per suite), 16 meals (three meals per day plus dinner Sunday evening, all in the university cafeteria), air-cnditined indr practice facilities and tw ftball fields (all within a shrt walking distance). Schedule The basic daily schedule will include nine hurs f band practice scheduled between breakfast, lunch and dinner with sme free time t enjy the universities amenities. Wake up each day will be at 7:00 AM with lights ut at 11:00 PM prviding 8 hurs f rest/sleep. Breakfast will be at 8:00 AM, lunch 12:00 Nn and dinner at 5:00 PM. Outside marching practice will be held frm 9:00 AM t 12:00 Nn and 6:00 PM t 9:00 PM with indr music rehearsals frm 1:00 PM t 4:00 PM. Attached is a tentative schedule fr the week s activities. The schedule may change due t adverse weather cnditins. Free-time activities may utilize the many n-campus amenities. Perimeters will be given where students may g. A student is nt permitted t leave the campus at any time. Our Areas Outside ur drmitry buildings, Academic Village, there is a large grassy area, where the BBPA will be hsting nightly activities during ur scheduled free time. Students may chse t participate in thse events, r bring their wn blankets, camping chairs, r utside activities. Yu may wish t simply relax in yur rm but remember that bys are never permitted in girls rms r visaversa. Chambers Hall has several activities, including pl tables and ping-png tables, and a running track. Outside Chambers Hall there are tennis curts, basketball curts and a sand-filled vlleyball curt. Student bundaries n campus include the Ridilla Athletic Fields, Admissins Parking Lt, Academic Village Buildings(drmitry), Chambers Hall, Pwers Hall and areas in between t Slate Run. N ne shuld leave the campus fr any reasn. Stay in lighted areas nly after dark fr yur wn safety. The athletic fields specifically are ff limits after the sun ges dwn.

2 Safety, Security, & Just Being Respectful & Respnsible Safety and security is always ur first cncern. The Security Infrmatin Center is lcated between Chambers Hall and Smith Hall. The campus plice are there t prtect the university and its guests. Call bxes are lcated thrughut the campus fr emergency use nly. Unauthrized use f fire alarms will result in fees as well as pssible prsecutin. The drm is equipped with security cameras n the grund flr t watch fr intruders. Drs are lcked 24 hurs a day; students must have their key t enter the building. Students are nt permitted in the drm withut a staff member r chaperne. This is fr the student s safety. All prescriptin drugs must be given t the BBPA and Chapernes upn arrival at the drm. Students are respnsible fr checking in with their assigned Chaperne t get his/her medicatins. The nly ver-the-cunter medicatins that will be dispensed are thse nted n the student s Permissin/First Aid/Emergency Authrizatin Frm. There is n smking in the buildings n the campus. Students are nt permitted t smke during band camp, as Pitt-Greensburg becmes an extensin f the Brentwd High Schl Campus. All schl rules apply. The chapernes will check each rm fr damages befre the students arrive. Rms will be reinspected upn check ut n Friday. The cst fr any damage may be charged t the students. If it cannt be determined that a single student caused the damage, all f the students in that rm will share repair csts. Students are t leave the rms clean. All trash is t be taken t the dumpster and spills in the micrwave and refrigeratr are t be cleaned. Chapernes will inspect each rm befre the students are permitted t return their rm keys. Students shuld be careful abut drpping fd n the flrs. There is a sweeper available n the first flr if yur rm needs it. Parent chapernes will be available t the students at all times. The parents will als have water fr each break, when practicing utdrs. Remember t drink plenty f water during the week. It is MANDATORY t pack yur wn nn-dispsable water bttle. This is t ensure that every student is getting enugh hydratin. Please remember t keep the utside areas clean. The band parents have asked fr additinal trash receptacles t be placed utdrs. Please remember t use them. Remember, the staff and chapernes are at camp t teach and t help keep yu safe. Please shw them the respect they deserve. If yu have questins r prblems, please dn t be afraid t see either the staff r the chapernes. Husing Specifics The Brentwd Band will be hused in the 4 buildings f Academic Village. Male and female students will be separated n different flrs r in separate buildings. Each suite will huse fur (4) students. Each suite cnsists f fur bedrms and a bathrm, and a kitchenette with a small refrigeratr and a micrwave ven. While there are stvetp vens in the rms, these are disabled

3 during the summer mnths. Students are respnsible fr cleaning their wn rms. Each day the students will take the garbage frm their rm and depsit it in the dumpster. Students must prvide their wn linens including sheets, blankets, pillws, pillwcases, twels and wash clths. Yu must als remember t bring yur wn tiletries including sap and shamp. Every student will be given a rm key, a name badge and a lanyard. Students must wear their name tag at all times. Althugh we are the nly student band n campus, there are still ther peple there and this helps t identify ur students. There will als be parent chapernes and staff members wh d nt knw every student. The students are als encuraged t put their wn key n their lanyard. The student will be charged $25 if he/she lses a rm key. Attendance & Rehearsal Attendance is mandatry at every meal. Students will be required t stay in the dining rm fr a minimum f 30 minutes at each meal. Students will nt be permitted t leave until dismissed by Mrs. Schneider. The band will use the Chapel, Chambers Hall Gym, and varius classrms in Pwers Hall fr ur indr rehearsal facilities. Instruments will be secured in the audience seating area in the Chapel when nt in use. The Visual Ensemble members will practice in the Gymnasium in Chambers Hall. There are tw ftball fields n the far side f the library fr ur utdr practice facilities. Apprpriate Attire While band camp des expse ur band members t hurs in the heat and the sun, we still expect apprpriate attire. As stated abve, when we ccupy Pitt Greensburg, it becmes an extensin f ur wn Brentwd Schl Campus, and all f ur schl rules still apply. That being said, here are examples f what NOT t wear: Crpped shirts, Side/Back cutut shirts withut an under shirt, Shrt Shrts, Tube tps, See-thrugh clthing, flip flps (during field rehearsals), any utfit that has undergarments hanging ut, r any clthing with inapprpriate lgs/images/wrding. Here are examples f what TO wear: Apprpriate length shrts (including but nt limited t: capris, bermudas, bard shrts, etc), T-shirts, Leggings that are NOT see-thrugh, Tennis Shes, etc. Any questins abut the dress plicy may be directed t Mrs. Schneider.

4 PACKING/LOADING INSTRUCTIONS Each student is limited t ne large suitcase. In additin, each student shuld pack bedding in a large plastic bag labeled with masking tape with the student s first and last name. Each student may als have ne carry-n held n yur lap n the bus cntaining snacks, drinks, etc. Each student shuld have all the equipment he/she will need fr the week. Dn t frget accessries fr yur instrument (reeds, ils, etc) and music. All large instruments will be laded nt the band truck after practice n Friday, August 4. Smaller instruments may be laded n the band truck n Sunday, August 6, starting at 12:30 PM. Make sure yur name is n yur suitcase. The suitcases will be laded nt the truck first fllwed by labeled garbage bags. Here is a brief list f what t pack: Water Bttle-MANDATORY (Camelbaks are a great ptin) Shrts, t-shirts, scks and underwear fr five days. Cmfrtable tennis shes (tw pairs recmmended, fr when the first gets wet). Bedding including a fitted sheet, flat sheet, pillw, pillwcase, and blanket. (Blankets are strngly recmmended, as the rms are cld at night with the air-cnditining turned n especially after a lng day in the sun). Tiletries including sap, shamp, twel, washclth, tthpaste, tthbrush, dedrant/antiperspirant, perfume/clgne, razr and shaving cream/gel r electric shaver, after-shave ltin, feminine hygiene prducts and daily prducts that yu may use. Sunscreen, sunglasses and hat!!!!!!! Khaki shrts, belt, Brentwd Band T- shirt, shrt black scks, and black drillmasters fr the preview shw n Friday evening Jacket/sweatshirt/RAIN PONCHO Optinal items may include: Snacks and drinks Bks, card games, etc. Frisbee, ftball, sccer ball, y-y, hacky-sack r ther athletic/entertainment items. Here is a brief list f what nt t take: Large amunts f cash Expensive jewelry Fans (the rms are air-cnditined) Refrigeratrs (they are prvided) Televisins/DVD Players/Laptps/Game Systems Dn t take anything with yu that yu dn t want t break, lse r have stlen!

5 RULES AND REGULATIONS (General Overview) Fr the safety and enjyment f all band members, remember that this is a schl functin and all schl rules apply. Mst minr infractins will result in the lss f free time. The mst severe vilatins will result in phne cnferences with parents and may result in the remval frm camp and pssibly dismissal frm band. Think befre yu act. 1. Be in the right place at the right time with prper equipment. 2. Any fd deliveries must be accepted in the main lbby f the drmitry. There will be n fd deliveries accepted after lights ut. 3. An adult will supervise students at all times. Stay within the bundaries previusly described. D nt g t the drm during practice times unless accmpanied by an adult. 4. Every student will stay n campus. D nt leave campus fr any reasn. 5. The respnsible student(s) will pay fr vandalism r damage t university prperty. 6. Students will nt pssess r use tbacc prducts f any nature. 7. There will be n pssessin r use f alchlic beverages by anyne. Drugs and drug paraphernalia are strictly prhibited. Immediate expulsin will result.
