4 Intrductin As a safety attendant yu have an imprtant rle in caring fr patients. There can be many reasns why a patient is agitated r might cnsider suicide. As a healthcare staff member, it is nt fr us t judge but t ffer quality care with dignity and cmpassin. A caring and psitive relatinship can be very reassuring t these patients. Our fcus is n safety. This means safety fr the patient and fr yu as the healthcare staff member. It als includes making sure that the envirnment is safe such as the bed, the surrundings in the rm and what cmes int the rm. Safety Attendant Respnsibilities The Safety Attendant is expected t remain with the patient at all times t prvide cntinuus bservatin. The Safety Attendant needs t arrange with the nurse fr smene t take his/her place fr break, fr meals r t leave the rm. When the patient is in a duble rm, prvide care nly t the assigned patient unless bth patients are assigned t the same safety attendant D nt make persnal phne calls, read, r cnduct ther activities that are nt directly related t the patient Receive patient reprt frm the nurse. These items culd be grabbed r thrwn. Be attentive t phne crd and patient privacy curtain s that these culd nt be used t harm self.
