Are You Boy Scout Tough? Station Descriptions Conquer Heart Break Hill Patrol Equipment Needed: None! Number of Scouts participating: Entire Patrol Brief Description: Objective: To move from the shower house to the shooting range as a unit in the shortest time. The entire patrol will be required to stay connected via a 10 foot rope. Every member of the patrol must hold the rope the entire time it takes to reach the summit. The clock will start when the patrol leaves the shower house as a unit and stops when the entire patrol reaches the finish line. Spotters will be stationed along the route to ensure the patrol stays connected. If any member releases the rope, a time penalty will be assessed to the patrol. The best time after the climb and any assessed penalties will be declared the winner. Scoring: Patrols will earn a final time based on their actual time to complete the challenge plus any penalties. Points will be awarded based on the ranking for lowest overall time. Over the Wall Patrol Equipment Needed: None! Number of Scouts Participating: Entire Patrol Brief Description: All Scouts from each patrol must work together to get all members of the patrol up and over a 10 foot wall and safely onto the other side. The patrol with the shortest average time to complete the challenge will win the Station. Patrols will have a 5 minute period to observe the wall and come up with a plan to successfully get over the wall. The challenge begins when the patrol is told to start, and ends once all patrol members are safely back on the ground on the other side of the wall. Patrols will have 5 minutes to get over the wall. Time penalties will be assessed for members who are unable to successfully complete the station. No aides can be used to help a scout complete the task other than the other patrol members. Scoring: Patrols will earn a final time based on their actual time to complete the challenge plus any penalties. The final time will be divided by the number of scouts participating to get an average time. Points will be awarded based on the ranking for lowest average time. Blind Seamanship Patrol Equipment Needed: Work gloves for rowers Number of Scouts participating: 3 Patrol members chosen by the patrol leader Brief Description: This station will challenge your teamwork skills. Each patrol will select two (2) rowers and one (1) helmsman. The two rowers will both be blindfolded. It is the helmsman s job to give direction to the rowers to successfully navigate the boat out into the lake, around a buoy marker approximately 25 feet out, and back to the dock. The helmsman will sit in the back of the boat. Scoring: Patrols will be scored on the time it takes from the start point to the finish line. Patrols will have 10 minutes to complete the event. Patrols who fail to complete the event in 10 minutes will receive that time for their score. Points will be awarded based on the ranking for lowest overall time.
Men of Steel Pull Patrol Equipment Needed: Work gloves Number of Scouts Participating: Entire Patrol Brief Description: Your patrol will be asked to work as a team to pull a small pickup truck from a stopped position as far as possible in a specified time. There will be a rope attached to the pickup truck to use when pulling. All patrol members must keep their hands on the rope. No one will be allowed to push the pickup truck from the rear. Scoring: Patrols will be judged on the distance they are able to pull the pickup truck in the allotted time of 20 seconds. The distance will be decreased for any penalties, and that distance will then be divided by the number of patrol members to arrive at an average distance per Scout, since not all patrols will have an equal number of Scouts. Points will be awarded based on the average distance the truck was pulled. High Noon at the Range Patrol Equipment Needed: None! Number of Scouts Participating: Up to 6 Scouts Brief Description: Now that you have ascended to new heights, it s time to set your sights on new targets and test your shooting skills. 2 different patrol members will participate in 3 different shooting stations. Patrols consisting of less than 6 members can have shooters in multiple stations to allow 2 shooters at each station. In patrols of 6 or more members, a member can only participate in 1 station for a total of 6 shooters. Scoring: Points will be awarded based on the following: Rifle shooting: 5 points for the number of shots (out of 5 shots) that can be covered by or touching a quarter sized grouping. Archery: Points will be earned based on the location of five arrows on the target (0,1,3,5 per arrow). Trap Shotgun: 5 points will be earned for each clay pigeon hit out of 5 attempts. All points will be totaled for one patrol score to determine the event winner. Cliff Hanger Patrol Equipment Needed: None! Number of Scouts Participating: 3 Patrol members chosen by the patrol leader Brief Description: Three chosen patrol members will each attempt to climb one face of a rock climbing wall simultaneously. The three walls are rated Easy, Medium and Difficult. The challenge begins when each Scout is told to begin and ends when they reach the top of the wall and ring a bell. The times for each Scout s assent will be combined and an average time taken. The patrol with the lowest average time will win the station. Time penalties will be assessed for members who are unable to successfully complete the station challenge. Patrols will have 5 minutes to complete the event Scoring: Patrols will be scored on the average time required (total actual times divided by 3) to complete all three climbing walls. Scouts who fail to complete the climb in 5 minutes will receive that time for their score.
Station Scoring for Patrols For all stations, points will be awarded to patrols based on the total number of registered patrols as the winning score, followed in order for each subsequent score. If we have 15 patrols, then: 1 st Place 15 points, 2 nd Place 14 points, 3 rd Place 13 points, etc. If patrols tie in the station, they will each earn the score for that place and the score will skip the next place. Winner - Patrol 1 - Winner 15 points 2 nd Place - Patrol 2 and Patrol 3 tied 14 points for both patrols 3 rd place No Patrol because they tied for second 4 th Place Patrol 4 12 points Overall Camporee Scoring for Patrols Points earned at each station will be summed for each patrol. The three patrols with the highest total points will be declared the winners. Tie Breaker In the event that two or more patrols are tied for 1 st, 2 nd or 3 rd place, the patrols tied for the position will face off in a separate station to determine the winner. All decisions of the judges are final. SCOUT SUGGESTED ITEMS (for each Scout) Daypack Water bottle, sunblock, bug spray, boots, comfortable shoes that can get wet (for the rowing station), hat, extra socks Appropriate clothing for the weather Raingear Work gloves for the truck pull and rowing stations Morning Session Check In: Patrols Leaders are required to check in by 9:00am at the Scout Craft area to receive their schedule for the day. Delays in checking in may prevent your patrol from starting on time. While the entire patrol should come to the scout craft area, to ease check in, ONLY the patrol leader should come to the check in table.
Camporee Rules: 01. Registration must only be through the Munsee District calendar. Please register for the Camporee, using the online registration! 02. Each Troop may enter as many Patrols as it wishes. A Patrol must consist of between (4) and (8) Scouts with a recommendation of six (6) Scouts to maximize involvement. Patrols should be kept as natural as possible. "Stacking" Scouts of higher ranks together in one Patrol is contrary to the aims and methods of Scouting. 03. Other than personal items and work gloves in a day pack, scouts are not required to have any special gear. 04. To receive a score at a town, all patrol members must be present, even if they are not all participating. 05. Some stations will have a maximum time allowed to complete the challenge. Patrols that exceed this time will be stopped and their score will be based on the maximum station time. 06. Lunch will be from 12:30 PM to 2:00 PM and is the responsibility of each Troop for their members. Scouts should return to their camp sites or the mess hall as identified by their Troop leader. Scouts are encouraged to return promptly from lunch at 2:00 PM to ensure they have enough time to complete the afternoon stations. 07. Each Troop must provide a roster of their participants, including all Scouts, Leaders, and other Adults attending. Please turn in your roster when arriving at the Camporee check-in. 08. Each Patrol must provide a roster of their Scouts. Please turn in your roster when arriving at the Camporee. 09. No equipment, trash, or food may be left along the trail, in base camp, or at the stations. 10. Patrols may not use cell phones or two-way radios or any other form of communications! 11. Penalties and point reductions may be assessed for failure to adhere to rules, including attempting to give/take advantage to and from other Patrols, horseplay, or any other un-scout like behavior. Disqualification may occur for actions such as damaging Trail markers, live trees, public or personal property or another Patrol s equipment, violating the waterfront or lake restrictions, or failure to follow directives of the Station Chief or any Official. 12. To prevent any air of impropriety, Scout Leaders and Parents should be cautioned not to follow their Scouts throughout the stations. No Adults (anyone 18 Yrs. or older) or non-scouts are allowed to assist any patrol in any way. Adults not assisting with the Camporee are not allowed to travel with a patrol on the trail to their stations. A Spectator Area at each Town will be provided: please be considerate & polite.
13. A Schedule of Camporee station challenges is included. Patrols from Troops arriving late will start when they arrive and will have less time to complete the stations. No points will be given for stations that are not completed. 14. Uniform Scout uniforms are NOT required for the Camporee. Each Scout must be suitably dressed for the weather. No open toed footwear will be allowed. All Scoutmasters are asked to help in this process. 15. The Judge's decision will be final. Each Scout and Leader will be expected to live up to the Scout Oath, Law, Motto and Slogan. All standard Scouting rules will apply at all times. Any Scout or Scouts caught breaking the rules will cost their patrol up to 10 points for the station. 16. The Camporee is a rain or shine event, so Be Prepared. 17. Troops must register when entering Camp Somers and before setting up their campsite. Campsites will be assigned and communicated at the MANDATORY leaders meeting on April 21 st. 18. Score Card: Each patrol will receive an official Camporee score card at check in. The Patrol Leader of each team is required to carry the score card with them to each station. The card is used to mark the team score in each station in order to help determine the winner of the Camporee. However, it s the Station Chief s score card that counts. 19. Parking: All vehicles must be parked at the main parking lot adjacent to the mess hall. Troops can keep one vehicle at their campsite (as a bear box or for emergencies). Other than moving equipment to campsites at check in and packing up on Sunday morning, vehicles must not be driven on camp roads during the Camporee weekend. 20. As with any outing, the Scoutmaster or responsible person for each Troop should have in their possession Medical Records and Permission Slips. The Roster must list each Scout and a phone number for his Parent or Guardian. This Camporee Committee considers this challenge to be a strenuous outing with many fun and rewarding activities. Please help us by committing to your part by following our guidelines to making "Are You Boy Scout Tough" a success. Thank You!
Awards: All registered Scouts and Adult volunteers will receive a Camporee Patch The three (3) highest scoring patrols will be presented with trophies for 1 st, 2 nd and 3 rd place The 1 st place patrol for each station will receive a framed certificate Photo Release I understand that by attending this program, sponsored by the Patriots Path Council, Boy Scouts of America, I consent to the use of photographs, film, videotapes, electronic representations and/or sound recordings made of me during that time by the Boy Scouts of America, at their discretion, and I hereby release the Boy Scouts of America from any and all liability from such use and publication.
