3 Introduction Welcome to the Water and Woods spring 2015 camporee. While the theme is Go West 1850 s it is more of a Shooting Sports camporee. This should be a fun filled weekend where we will not only test the Scouts Shooting skills but also test their Scouting skills. Units can have one vehicle the one pulling their trailer in the campsite only. We encourage you to have your gear carried in on your backs or in wagons (See photos on page 5 for examples of wagons). To make things easier on Saturday morning we will be providing breakfast in the dining hall. Lunch on Saturday will be on the trail so the Troop needs to make arrangements to either take lunch to them or ideally have the Scouts carry it with them. There will be 11 stations for the Scouts to travel to test their skills. These stations will be scarred throughout the camp and the Scouts will have to travel about 1 ½ miles to get to all of them so keep that in mind as they will be required to carry some of the materials needed at some of the activities (see the activities descriptions for what the Patrol needs). Before the Scouts can shoot at the Rifle and Shotgun Range they will need to go through Range Safety training. This takes 30 minutes and the Scouts are expected to pay attention. Any Scout who miss behaves or is disruptive will be asked to leave and will not be allowed to take part in the Rifle, Shotgun activities. There will be ZERO tolerance. In order to get things started the first 2 groups of Scouts to start at the Rifle, and Shotgun ranges will have to take the Safety Training Friday night at the Rifle Range at 8:30 pm. This is a must and once again any Scout missing the training will not be allowed to shoot. The scoring for the activities is based on Patrols. To effectively run the camporee we will need to have 8 Scout Patrols with one Scout begin the patrol leader. Now with this said it will be necessary to assign Scouts to mixed Troop patrols. We ask the help of adult leaders here to make sure that any Scout in there Troop that has to merge with another Troop be a Scout you feel will except the challenge and work well with others they may not know. We will also be assigning a Senior Scout with NYLT (National Youth Leadership Training) to assist with the mixed Patrols. For example Troop XXX registers 12 Scouts. They would then have one patrol of 8 and the 4 extra Scouts would go into a pool to be assigned with a merged Patrol. Troop YYY also shows up with 12 Scouts, they make one Patrol of 8 Scouts and the 4 remaining go into the pool. We now have 8 Scouts in the pool so we will make a merged Patrol out of the pool. We will make every effort to try and keep Scouts together. We will have merged Patrols posted at the dinning hall at Cracker Barrel Friday night and for breakfast Saturday morning. Please read the rest of this manual for more details on what to expect at the Camporee. If you have questions me at I will try to answer any and all questions. Yours in Scouting Tom Mapes 3 Revision Date 1/11/2015

If your unit decides to rent a cabin for the weekend the same rule applies. Also keep in mind that if your Unit rents a cabin that cost is above and beyond the camporee fee and must be handled with Camp Rotary. Groups and Patrols There will be 11 groups lettered A-F, each group has 4 patrols numbered 1-4. The group will travel to each activity together. 4 Revision Date 1/11/2015
