1 Harvest District 2016 Klondike Board Games January 23, 2016 Camp J. Edward Mack Check-In 7:30 a.m. Awards 4:00 p.m. Cost $16 per person (Includes event patch, program, lunch, and camp/admin fees) The 2016 Klondike is open to all Boy Scouts and Webelos (Klondike sleds are required for Boy Scouts). The Klondike will include first aid skills, knots & lashings, fire building, and map & compass. Awards will be given for Best of Show (theme) and Total Points. Those spending the weekend may check-in after 6:00 p.m. on Friday at the training center. A roster and individual medical forms for all participants (parts A & B) must be turned in at that time. Units are permitted to stay on Saturday night but will be on their own following the awards ceremony. All participants scouts and adults need to bring a drinking cup! Items needed on the sled: Scout Handbook Patrol Flag Patrol Roster Patrol Cheer (to be yelled) First Aid Kit Two blankets Ten pieces of 6 rope Three 6 poles Compass Paper and Pencil Fire starting materials (no commercial products) Filled water bottles (one for each participant) Helmet (required for sled rider) Appropriate footwear for all Appropriate clothing for the weather

2 Cabins are highly coveted for this event, and space is limited. For that reason, bed space can be reserved only with a paid registration, on a first come, first served basis. No verbal, , or historical commitments will be honored. Units may be assigned to space in the training center or one of the four cabins. Space will be assigned based on the numbers in the paid registration, and units may be combined. By policy, females are not permitted to sleep in the same cabin as males. Units may tent camp anywhere in Camp Mack and should notify staff of where they will be during check-in. 3 2016 Harvest District Klondike Sled Rules 1. The sled is to be 6 feet long by 2 feet wide with a comfortable handle height (approx 40 ) for proper steering by the scouts. 2. The sled is to be made entirely of wood. No metal parts (except nails or screws) will be accepted. The patrol may use manufactured skis or runners. The skis or runners will be the only part that may be manufactured. 3. Only sleds that are used in the stations part of the event will be considered for the Best of Show competition. Sleds that fail to make it to all the stations will be eliminated from the Best of Show competition. NOTE: Minor repairs and alterations may be made during the field day competition as required as long as it does not interfere with the general competition). 4. One scout of average size must ride in the sled from station to station. HELMET IS REQUIRED. 5. One scout will steer the sled from station to station. 6. All other members of the patrol will be mushers pulling the sled with properly attached rope or harness. 7. Nails, screws, lashings, and glue are acceptable binding and connecting materials. 8. Adults are encouraged to supervise the building of the sleds, but the sled must be entirely built by the patrol or troop. Any sled proven to be constructed by adults will be disqualified. A Scouter as well as a Scout is honest. 9. The sled may be of any design that meets these requirements. If in doubt, contact the Activities Committee. 10. In the event of a No Snow occasion, wheels will be permissible. 11. The decision of the judges is final. If members of a patrol feel they have been unfairly treated or a mistake has been made, they must contact the event chairman immediately. Any corrections must be made at the time they occur. 12. The patrol is encouraged to adorn or decorate their sleds as per the designated theme. Any violation of the rules will result in disqualification! General Information 1. Interpretation of the rules will be made by the Event Chairman. All decisions and rulings are final. 2. The Best of Show sled competition will be conducted at the completion of the stations for the day. 3. This is a patrol based competition. NO ADULT/LEADER INTERACTION with the patrols between or during the stations (except lunch). Exceptions will be granted for disabled scouts and situations approved by the event chairman. 4. Stations missed due to a malfunctioning sled cannot be made up. 5. Sleds should be self-sufficient and self-contained with all materials and supplies the patrol feels may be needed for the event, including the items on the suggested list of supplies. 6. Patrols will not interfere, hamper, obstruct, or otherwise disrupt the movement of another patrol from one station to another. 7. Patrols will not move, remove, or otherwise interfere with any station materials needed by other patrols to complete specific station requirements. 8. Points will be awarded at stations for a patrol cheer, patrol flag, and patrol roster. 9. The event chairman will have final and absolute discretion in any rulings or disputes. Any violation of the rules will result in disqualification of the patrol and their sled from award consideration.
