1 Trailblazer Spring Camporee 2014 Making New Friends WHEN: April 11-13, 2014 WHERE: Little Sioux Scout Ranch Cost: Youth $20 Adult $15
2 General Guidelines Registration & Fees Registration is open to all Boy Scouts, Explorers, Venture Crews and Webelos for the entire weekend, as well as Girl Scout Cadettes and Seniors. Registration includes access to all events, a camporee patch, and Saturday dinner and Sunday get-a-way breakfast. The cost is $20.00 per youth/$15 per adult if paid by March 31. Registration Fees will increase by $5 per person after March 31. In order to register we must have a unit roster and payment turned in at the same time! No registrations will be accepted without payment. Cub Scouts, Daisies, Brownies and Juniors are welcome to attend during the day on Saturday. Events in which these scouts may participate are marked in the activities section. The fee for younger scouts and leaders to attend will be $10 for scouts and $5 for adults. This includes Saturday evening s meal. Tour Permits & Health Forms Each troop is responsible for obtaining a tour permit from scouter services at the Durham Scout Center. Current health forms MUST accompany all units to the camporee for each scout AND scouter. The health forms will be kept at the Lodge for our medical staff. These will be included in your packets when you check out on Sunday. This policy is intended to protect any youth or adult that might be involved in an emergency situation and allow District Leaders at the camporee to take the appropriate action needed. Parking In order to maintain safety as well as the beauty of the camp, only TWO vehicles will be allowed to remain in campsites. You may use additional vehicles to transfer scouts and gear to the site, including a trailer. The equipment trailer may remain at your campsite throughout the weekend. Extra vehicles will need to be parked along the gravel road between the main lodge and the welcome center, in the parking near the north shelter, or at the welcome center itself. Check-in Procedure Please plan to arrive between 6:00 8:00 pm. Check-in will be at the Welcome center upon entry to Little Sioux. Please be prepared to show your completed health forms upon arrival. While we prefer that they be left with the health officer, you may keep them with your unit. Please also have your unit roster prepared to turn in upon arrival. You will be assigned camping areas at that time. Meals
3 Units will be responsible for their own meals for Friday evening, Saturday morning and Saturday noon. We will have a cook-out Saturday evening, and will provide a get-away breakfast Sunday morning. Saturday dinner will be served in the Mid-American Energy Pavilion. Camporee Headquarters The headquarters for this event will be in the Lodge. All administrative and program needs will be handled at the headquarters. The headquarters will be staffed 24 hours a day during the event in case of an emergency. Check-Out Procedures Camporee staff will be located in the Lodge for checkout. You will be able to retrieve your health forms at this time. You must turn in an evaluation to receive your patches. Remember a scout is clean, please police your campsite and leave it better then when you arrived. Cooking Ground fires are permitted only within fire rings currently existing. All meals being prepared will have to be done in these fire rings or on gas stoves. Units are invited to cook their best dessert to share with the camp on Saturday evening. The camp will vote on their favorites! Adult Leadership It is the policy of the Boy Scouts of America that trips and outings may never be led by only one adult. Two registered adult leaders or one register adult leader and a parent or guardian of a scout, one of whom must be over 21 years of age, are required for all trips and outings. If you do not have two deep leadership, contact any of the camp directors and we will combine your troop with another to provide the required leadership. The safety rule of four requires that no fewer than four individuals (always a minimum of two adults) go on any backcountry expedition or campout. If an accident occurs, one person stays with the injured party and two go for help. Camping Camping arrangements will be as follows: Boy Scouts and their leaders will be camped in the South Valley. Girl Scouts and their leaders will be camped in North Valley. Venture Crew and Staff will be camped at the East Cabin. Lights Out is 10:30. All youth are expected to be back in their respective camping areas prior to that.
4 Campfire Campfire will be held Saturday night. The campfire will include a flag retirement ceremony, Webelos Crossover ceremony, and an Order of the Arrow call-out. Everyone should plan to attend. Special Note: The Order of the Arrow will be conducting a Brotherhood Ceremony late Saturday evening. If you are currently an Ordeal member and would like to complete your Brotherhood at the camporee, please contact Scott Brown, OA Chapter Chief (swfbrown@gmail.com) ACTIVITIES Underlined events will have prizes award at the end of the camporee. Tomahawk Throwing Tomahawk throwing will be available at the entrance to North Valley. Rifle Shooting Rifle shooting will be available at the Rifle Range, north of the ranger s house/workshop. Archery Archery will be available near the stage area. Shooting times may be assigned and everyone is expected to attend a safety meeting. All scouts must attend a mandatory safety meeting Friday night if they wish to shoot. There will be NO EXCEPTIONS. Shooting times will be assigned to avoid congestion at the range and encourage visiting the other activities. Cub Scouts, Webelos, Daisies, Brownies, and Juniors will NOT be allowed to participate in these three events. Duct Tape Wallets The Girl Scouts will be teaching the art of wallet making using duct tape. What can t this wonderful product do? Knots Know your knots? This will be in the format of a knot recognition game. Knots will be laid out on boards and a quiz sheet will be given to each person.
