Daily ward rounds to ICU, patients with positive blood cultures and any other patients where team has requested microbiology input. 2. ACUTE SERVICES care and treatment of all paediatric medical, including dermatology, admissions to the children s ward (23 beds, 2,200 admissions per year) ambulatory care unit Sophie s place paediatric outpatient clinics in Winchester, Eastleigh and Andover (attendance 7,400 per year) examination and care of all babies born in the Maternity Unit and those referred from the Andover GP Unit (2,750 deliveries) the care of neonates admitted to the Neonatal Unit (16 cots, 2 of which are designated intensive care, 300 admissions per annum) joint specialist clinics in Cardiology, Neurology, Nephrology, Cystic Fibrosis, Genetics, Paediatric Surgery and Rheumatology. COMMUNITY SERVICES experienced community paediatric nursing team who have special interests in respiratory medicine, allergy and anaphylaxis, diabetes, learning disability, oncology child health surveillance school health child safeguarding pre-school special needs services in 3 child development centres: the Aviary Centre in Eastleigh, Lanterns Childrens Centre in Winchester and Acorns Early Years Centre in Andover autism assessment clinic child guidance clinic audiology (pre-school and school) therapy services (physiotherapy, occupational therapy, speech therapy and clinical psychology). Managing day to day ward work. Discharge planning. Managing patients on ward and liaise with RHCH, Winchester if patient needs to be transferred for acute management. 40 hours a week. No on-call commitment. It is important to note that this description is a typical example of your and may be F2 EMAU Medicine EMAU The acute medical unit, McGill ward admits patients from General practice and emergency department. Consultant cover is present on unit from 8am-5pm Monday to Friday. Weekend Consultant cover is provided by general medical and acute physicians. Short stay patients whose length of stay is predicted to be less than 72 hours are also looked after on the ward. A Rapid Access/Admission Avoidance Clinic which operates from 9.00am-17.00pm on weekdays for ambulatory patients and patient follow up visits. The unit has dedicated junior doctors. Medical assistants support the junior medical staff providing support for cannulation and venesection and radiology provides
6 dedicated daily slots for urgent CT scan, ultrasound and venograms. We discharge about 40% of patients directly from the EMAU. The unit receives the whole range of medical patients. The post holder will be able to review patients and have active role in management. As consultants are present on unit this is an excellent learning environment to develop clinical and practical skills. Departmental teaching takes place on unit, there is hot cases radiology meeting fortnightly, Medical division meeting weekly. This is in addition to the dedicated foundation program. Royal Hampshire County Hospital EMAU Consultants The post will involve looking after patients on ward but also rotation to the ambulatory admissions avoidance clinic. Duties include history taking, examination, venepuncture, lumbar puncture, review of results etc. Contribution to education program through case presentations are welcomed and audit projects are available. Days will typically be or depending on rota through ambulatory clinic. Twlight shift session are included in this role. F2 Emergency Medicine Emergency Department Resus bay 3 beds Majors 6 beds Minors 5 rooms Clerking in patients: History + Exam Ordering appropriate tests Decision making Referring to appropriate services Basic practical skills: suturing etc Interpreting XRs Weekly teaching Presentation to senior doctors Mostly medical patients/minors, with some trauma (head injury, long bone fractures) though major trauma diverted to Basingstoke or Southampton. Cardiac sent to Basingstoke.

After induction period you run your own surgeries. Initially with long consultation times which is supported by your Clinical Supervisor. As your experience increases you will see more patients and may do some home visits on your own. There is the opportunity after each surgery to debrief with your supervisor to discuss your patients for that morning/afternoon. Practice s GP at Practice For the F2 this is almost entirely for your experience and teaching. You have a morning and afternoon surgery, and sometimes a lunchtime home visit. The focus for you is to learn, follow-up your patients and improve your communication skills. The job is flexible and you may arrange to sit in on Clinics & MDT meetings. As need / opportunity arises: transfer of patients off unit e.g. for scans clinical procedures (such as central & arterial lines, chest drains, ascitic taps, epidural top-ups ventilator set up & use) theatre anaesthetics experience. Review of ward/ ED patients for consideration of transfer to ICU or for advice. Discharge summary writing with comprehensive handover to primary teams. Crash call team member. Presentation of allocated topic at weekly teaching. Presentation of patients at monthly M&M meeting. Surgical on-call duties long days, weekends, nights. in this post e.g. ward rounds, clinics, theatre sessions. Daily/weekly/monthly (if applicable) Rota 8-6pm WR twice daily No clinics Theatre sessions anaesthetics experience when ICU responsibilities permit. It mainly involves daily review of patients and planning of their care, with twice daily consultant ward rounds. There will be ward jobs e.g. blood taking, organizing of investigations and procedures such as venous access. You are supported by the consultant on for the unit and by an Anaesthetics trainee. There are plenty of for gaining procedural experience. Critical care is a busy but there are plenty of learning and audit and you will gain valuable experience in all aspects of the management of the critically ill patient. You will be exposed to all specialties and will have the opportunity to develop communication skills with other specialties and healthcare professionals. Our team is supportive and approachable. RHCH Intensive Care Consultants Daily review of the patients, Coordination of investigations and collation of results and maintenance of the daily handover sheet. There is evening on-call & weekend commitments but the post is banded. Expected to work h Monday to Friday averaging 48h per week, thus able to have the occasional half day. Receiving direct admissions of suspected stroke patients both from the Winchester and Basingstoke areas. Opportunity to acquire management skills involving acute neurological patients and their subsequent rehabilitation. Ability to attend acute neuro-vascular / follow up clinics, acute assessment of stroke patients / thrombolysis,

Admission of new patients received from the ED. Taking part in regular MDT s. Liaising with therapy staff and discharge planning. Attending clinics. 11 F2 - Elderly Care Clifton Clifton is a rehabilitation ward with patients that often have complex needs, multi-morbidities and recent acute medical or surgical issues. The patient group is predominantly older patients although some are younger with specific rehabilitation goals. The ward is managed by two consultant geriatricians. Daily multi-disciplinary meetings (MDTs), daily review of rehabilitation referrals for Clifton, ward rounds and ward jobs. Learning through consultant ward rounds, alternate weekly radiology lunchtime meetings, Elderly Care teaching and Grand Round. There are also to teach medical students.
