1 STATEMENT OF PURPOSE This is the Statement of Purpose for Hull and East Yorkshire Hospitals NHS Trust as required by the Health and Social Care Act 2008 (regulated Activities) Regulations 2014 Schedule 3 and described in Regulation 12: Statement of Purpose detailed in the Care Quality Commission (Registration) Regulations 2009 (Part 4). The Trust was established on the 1 October 1999 through the merger of the former Royal Hull Hospitals and East Yorkshire Hospitals NHS Trusts (Establishment Order 1999 no.2675). The Trust employs 6,951 WTE staff at 31 March 2015, has an annual turnover of 520m and operates from two main sites - Hull Royal Infirmary and Castle Hill Hospital. It delivers a number of outpatient services from locations across the local health economy area. The Trust is a: Secondary Care Provider Cancer Centre Cardiac Centre Vascular Centre Major Trauma Centre Regional Specialist Centre University Teaching Hospital and the major NHS partner in the Hull York Medical School. The Trust s secondary care service portfolio is comprehensive, covering the major medical and surgical specialties, routine and specialist diagnostic services and other clinical support services. These services are provided primarily to a catchment population of approximately 600,000 in the Hull and East Riding of Yorkshire area. The Trust provides specialist and tertiary services to a catchment population of between 1.05 million and 1.25 million extending from Scarborough in North Yorkshire to Grimsby and Scunthorpe in North East and North Lincolnshire respectively. The only major services not provided locally are transplant surgery, major burns and some specialist paediatric services.

3 SERVICES PROVIDED Hull and East Yorkshire Hospitals Trust is registered with the Care Quality Commission to provide the following regulated activities: Assessment or medical treatment for persons detained under the Mental Health Act 1983 Diagnostic and screening procedures Maternity and midwifery services Surgical procedures Termination of pregnancies Treatment of disease, disorder or injury The Trust provides a wide range of elective and non-elective services for inpatients and day case patients, together with out-patient services which involve a number of regulated activities. 4 LOCATIONS WHERE SERVICES ARE PROVIDED The Trust provides services from the two main sites of Hull Royal Infirmary and Castle Hill Hospital. In addition, the Trust provides some services at East Riding Community Hospital and Hornsea Cottage Hospital. All of the Trusts locations provide acute services for the whole population. The services the Trust are registered to provide at each location are detailed below. Hull Royal Infirmary Anlaby Road Hull HU3 2JZ RWA01 The Hull Royal Infirmary is situated in the centre of the city and provides a comprehensive range of medical and surgical specialties. It is the Trust s emergency centre, with a major A&E department which is supported by a full range of diagnostic and treatment facilities. The site accommodates the Women and Children s Hospital and Eye Hospital. It is also the registered address for Hull and East Yorkshire Hospitals Trust. 5 Castle Hill Hospital Castle Road Cottingham Hull HU16 5JQ RWA16 Castle Hill Hospital is situated in the semi-rural setting of the East Riding of Yorkshire and provides elective (non emergency) care for a range of medical and surgical specialties. The site accommodates the Queens Centre for Oncology and Haematology, Cardiac and Elective Surgical facilities, the Medical Research Teaching and Day Surgery facilities and the ENT and Breast Surgery facility. Assessment or medical treatment for persons detained under the Mental Health Act 1983 Diagnostic and screening procedures Maternity and midwifery services Surgical procedures Treatment of disease, disorder or injury East Riding Community Hospital Swinemoor Lane Beverley HU17 0FA RWAX1 Hull and East Yorkshire Hospitals provide and maintain a Minor Injuries Unit and a radiology service together with a range of outpatient clinics at the East Riding Community Hospital.
