1 MORTON COUNTY NEWS NOVEMBER 2018 The Noble and the Brave: A Veteran s Day Tribute When America had an urgent need, These brave ones raised a hand; No hesitation held them back; They were proud to take a stand. They left their friends and family; They gave up normal life; To serve their country and their God, They plowed into the strife. They fought for freedom and for peace On strange MMMM and foreign shores; Some lost new friends; some lost their lives In long and brutal wars. Other veterans answered the call To support the ones who fought; Their country had requirements for The essential skills they brought. We salute every one of them, The noble and the brave, The ones still with us here today, And those who rest in a grave. Sunday, November 18th, from 8:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Pancake and sausage breakfast; a bucket raffle; and a pie and bread sale. Breakfast, 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Orders will be taken in advance for apple or pumpkin pie and dinner rolls. Complete the pre-order form found at the bottom of page 3 to order. All orders must be in by noon November 12th. Bucket Raffle -Starts 10:00 a.m., Monday, November 12th and closes at 1:00 p.m. on Sunday, November 18th. A Bucket Raffle is a raffle event in which participants bid for multiple prizes by dropping one or more tickets into a container next to each prize. Tickets for Raffle are $1.00 each. FLAG FOLDING Presentation at 9:00 a.m. on Wednesday, November 14th Nails in November A volunteer will be available on Tuesday, November 13th, from 1-3 p.m. to color fingernails at no charge. The volunteer will be using nail polish strips. Nail polish strips are a new way to color nails. This method is ideal for individuals who are unable to polish nails due to the amount of time required for the drying process. This method has nails dry within minutes. If interested sign up in the office. Computer Q & A Bring your computer/ cell devices to receive individual help. Vicki Laraway will be here November 14th. Sign-up in the office. Must have 5 individuals signed-up or will cancel. NO PIE DAY IN NOVEMBER Give Your Driving a Tune Up SENIORS EAT OUT Seniors Eat-Out is scheduled for Wednesday, November 7th, at Applebee s South. Applebee s offer a 30% discount on meals on Wednesdays. Transportation cost is $5.00. Transportation fee must be paid when signing up. Bus will leave at 4:00 p.m. Sign-up in the office. Take the AARP Smart Driver Course and you may be eligible for a discount on your auto insurance premium of at least five percent. (The discount varies by company.) You could also receive a three point reduction on your driver s license. The four-hour driver safety class is taught by trained AARP volunteers. There are no tests. This courses will be offered at Mandan Golden Age Senior Center on November 13th at 9:00 a.m. The cost is $15 for AARP members and $20 for non-members. Pre-registration is required. Call Gloria at to reserve your spot. TURKEY RAFFLE A raffle will be held in November for a chance to win one of three prizes. The tickets for the raffle are 50 each. The drawing will be held on Friday, November 16th.
