(LAS MA 54), who ded last December, bequeathed more than $300,000 n planned gft annutes to women s athletcs programs at DePaul Unversty. One of the largest ndvdual gfts to women s athletcs at DePaul, Munster s contrbuton wll be added to the Fr. Thomas Munster Endowed Scholarshp for Women n Athletcs, whch supports student-athletes wth at least a 3.0 GPA. DePaul All-Amercan basketball player Rchard F. A lfelong DePaul sports fan, Munster served n a number of leadershp, staff and volunteer postons at DePaul Academy and DePaul Unversty, begnnng as an academy faculty member n 1949 and servng most recently as a unversty chancellor. Lke many others who knew or worked closely wth Munster, Jean Lent Ponsetto, athletcs drector at DePaul, was surprsed by the sze of the gfts but not the generosty. Father Munster saw t as an nvestment n DePaul and wanted to ensure there would be lastng gfts to support young women for many generatons, she says. 2 Scholarshp memoralzes labor attorney and DePaul footballer From hs days playng DePaul football through hs career as a Chcago labor lawyer, the late Hon. James F. Hynan (JD 35) remaned grateful to DePaul for the football scholarshp that enabled hm to attend college durng the Great Depresson. Recently, hs wdow, Rosemary Hynan, gave $100,000 to the DePaul Unversty College of Law to create the Honorable James F. Hynan Endowed Scholarshp, whch wll be awarded begnnng n the academc year to students demonstratng academc excellence. The scholarshp s meant to honor Jm and help other law students receve an educaton, says Rosemary. Jm s famly wouldn t have been able to send hm to college wthout the DePaul football scholarshp. James began hs college career at Loyola Unversty n Chcago but transferred to DePaul when Loyola elmnated ts football program and scholarshps. DePaul opened ts arms to several Loyola football players and provded them wth a wonderful educaton, says Rosemary. Durng World War II, James commanded gun crews and communcaton personnel on merchant shps brngng supples to alles n Europe. In 1995, he was presented the The Hon. James F. Hynan (JD 35) n 1995 Russan Commemoratve Medal for hs courage. After the war, James rose to Navy leutenant commander and served as defense counsel n general courts-martal cases at naval ar tranng bases n Texas. Subsequently, James served as a prncpal n Condon & Hynan untl hs retrement n 1994 and as a Cook County Law Dvson arbtrator. He s survved by hs wfe, three sons, a daughter and fve grandchldren. 3 Studley endows faculty research fellowshp at DePaul Real Estate Center Studley, a New York-based nternatonal commercal real estate servces frm specalzng n tenant representaton, has contrbuted $150,000 to endow a faculty fellowshp at DePaul Unversty s College of Commerce. Jacque Jack Ducharme Named for Jacque Jack Ducharme, a company vce charman and former head of ts Chcago offce who ded n December 2007, the endowment wll fund research pertanng to the commercal real estate ndustry and wll be admnstered through the college s Real Estate Center. The gft ncreases the center s endowment to more than $10.5 mllon. Ths s a great honor for a great man, says Studley Presdent Mchael Colacno. Jacque was a mentor to so many people n the commercal real estate ndustry. Studley s grant to DePaul wll perpetuate hs legacy by provdng support for research on topcs concernng the commercal offce market. Ths s a fttng way to honor Jacque s leadershp and servce to Studley and to the cty of Chcago, where he devoted the majorty of hs career. Ths generous gft means that each year we wll be able to name and support a faculty scholar who wll conduct research on commercal markets and ssues that I am sure Mr. Ducharme would have found useful, says Susanne Cannon, the Douglas and Cyntha Crocker Endowed Drector of The Real Estate Center. 4 LPL Fnancal endows annual conference LPL Fnancal, one of the naton s leadng dversfed fnancal servces companes, has provded $250,000 to endow an annual conference at DePaul Unversty that wll focus on ssues of topcal nterest to the bankng, fnancal and nvestment servces ndustres. Developed n collaboraton wth the College of Commerce s Center for Fnancal Servces, the conference wll brng together the fnancal servces communty, scholars, regulators and leadng polcy makers for n-depth dscussons of ndustryrelated ssues, accordng to Wllam A. Obenshan, the center s executve drector. Frances Flood Frances Flood (LAS 44), a frst-generaton college student from an mmgrant famly, was the only female chemstry major n her class. Flood (left) s pctured wth fellow scence major Chrstne Cwertnak Booker (LAS 62). Flood has been a member of the Presdent s Club, DePaul s premer annual gvng socety, for 28 consecutve years. Recently, she set up a $40,000 gft annuty to endow a scholarshp n the ongong Campagn for Excellence n Scence and contrbuted an addtonal $1,000 drectly to that scholarshp. Why and when dd you start gvng to DePaul? Flood: Because of the good educaton that DePaul gave me. After I graduated, I contrbuted every year. I probably started wth $5 a year, but there were some years when we could be more generous. What motvated you to establsh an endowed scence scholarshp? Flood: It seemed to me the approprate way to contrbute. I ddn t receve scholarshp support, but I thnk helpng someone else get through college s mportant. Tuton s so much more expensve now. Why dd you elect to fund the scholarshp through a chartable gft annuty? Flood: I have DePaul n my wll, but I thought that as long as I don t need the money now t would be a good tme to get started wth a chartable gft annuty and perhaps add more later. gvng.depaul.edu/scence Constructon of the Monsgnor Andrew J.
