3 General information Course description The Kentucky Children s Hospital Contemporary Pediatrics Conference is designed to provide current information on a variety of medical and surgical conditions affecting infants, children and adolescents. Outstanding pediatric specialists of Kentucky Children s Hospital will offer presentations and concurrent sessions on a variety of topics. Course learning objectives Upon conclusion of this educational activity, you will be able to: Evaluate primary care management of life-threatening pediatric conditions. Discuss medical management of the following conditions: - Constipation - Seizures - Breast-feeding - Dentition - Hearing loss - Cancer - Endocrinologic conditions - Pediatric gynecology - Vision problems Recognize parent perspectives related to immunization vaccine hesitancy. Describe medical management of neonatal abstinence syndrome from birth through follow-up including KASPER requirements. Intended audience Pediatricians, pediatric specialists, family medicine physicians, pediatric nurse practitioners, family medicine nurse practitioners, physicians in resident training, nurses and physician assistants.
4 Accreditation Medicine The University of Kentucky College of Medicine is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME) to provide continuing medical education for physicians. The University of Kentucky College of Medicine designates this live activity for a maximum of AMA PRA Category 1 Credits TM. Physicians should only claim credit commensurate with the extent of their participation in the activity. This activity is offered for 13 ANCC contact hours. The Kentucky Board of Nursing (KBN) approves the University of Kentucky College of Nursing as a provider as well. ANCC and KBN approval of a continuing nursing education provider does not constitute endorsement of the program content nor commercial sponsors. This activity is offered for a maximum of 15.7 KBN contact hours (May 17 = 2.7 KBN [ANCC 2.25]; May 18 = 8.4 KBN [ANCC 7.0]; May 19 = 4.6 KBN [ANCC 3.8]). Provider number: In order to receive credit, participants must attend the program and submit a credit application and evaluation form online. Certificates may be printed once the program is completed. Nurses may receive up to 4 ANCC/4.8 KBN pharmacy contact hours with specified session attendance. Date and location The Kentucky Children s Hospital Contemporary Pediatrics conference will be held May at the Griffin Gate Marriott Resort & Spa in Lexington. The Marriott is
5 conveniently located just off Interstate 64/75 on Newtown Pike. Free access to the concierge lounge will be offered to overnight guests and their families. Griffin Gate Marriott Resort & Spa Thursday, May 16 Saturday, May 18 Lodging accommodations Rooms with special rates have been reserved for attendees and their guests at the Marriott. To receive the special rate, reservations must be made before the room block is filled or by 5 p.m. April 26, whichever comes first. Reservations will be taken after this date based on space and rate availability. Please reference University of Kentucky Pediatrics when making your reservation. Reservations for the event can be made with Marriott Reservations: Guest rooms are available at the special rate of $129 per night. Check-in time is 3 p.m. Checkout time is noon. Hotel room rates are subject to applicable state and local taxes in effect at the time of check-in. Lodging arrangements are the sole responsibility of the individual registrant. Other events Thursday pre-conference 8:30 a.m. 4:30 p.m. Advanced Pediatric Life Support (APLS) will be offered for an additional charge on Thursday, May 16, at the Griffin Gate Marriott. The APLS course focuses on the evaluation, diagnosis and initiation of treatment of many pediatric medical and surgical emergencies during the time the patient s condition is being stabilized in the clinic or emergency department. Major topics to be addressed include pediatric assessment, pediatric airway, central nervous system, medical emergencies, cardiovascular system and trauma. Skill stations on advanced-airway and advanced-trauma procedures will be included. Limited to 25 registrants. Although this course is designed for physicians, other disciplines are encouraged to attend. Please register as early as possible in order to receive materials by mail prior to the course. Friday UK pediatric residency 50th anniversary party for alumni 5:30-7:30 p.m. UK pediatric residency alumni and faculty are invited to a cocktail party in honor of our residency program s 50th anniversary at the Griffin Gate Marriott Terrace Atrium. Friday exhibitions 7:30 a.m. 4 p.m. Local businesses, child advocacy groups and pharmaceutical companies will offer displays related to their role in children s health in the foyer outside the main conference room at the Griffin Gate Marriott. Cancellation policy If you cancel your participation in this course, your registration fee will be refunded when written notification is received by UK Pediatrics before April 17. No refunds will be made after April 17; however, registration may be transferred to another participant. If an additional event is not available, the amount of the event for which you registered will be refunded. Many events have limited availability, so early registration is recommended. UK Pediatrics reserves the right to cancel, postpone or make substitutions in any course because of unforeseen circumstances. In the unlikely event UK Pediatrics must cancel or postpone this course, the entire registration fee will be refunded, but UK Pediatrics is not responsible for any related cost, charges or expenses to participants including fees assessed by airline/travel/lodging agencies.
