2 Goal This activity has been designed to provide up-to-date education to health care providers in order to improve health outcomes in the field of immunization and vaccine-preventable diseases. New recommendations and guidelines will be addressed through didactic lectures and a panel discussion. Attendees are asked to use the registration form to submit a question for the panel discussion based on the topics being addressed or another area of importance. Target Audience Family practice physicians, pediatricians, internists, pharmacists, nurses, allied health professionals, school nurses, nursing students, medical residents, and medical students will benefit from attendance at this activity. Objectives At the conclusion of this activity, the participant should be able to: Identify best practices for storage and handling of vaccines List two strategies to improve management of vaccine storage and handling Describe updates from the Pennsylvania Department Health immunization program Recognize that immunization is the most effective way to reduce the incidence of death and permanent sequelae caused by meningococcus Describe health complications that may result from the lack of immunizations Summarize the current Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices (ACIP) immunization across the lifespan Describe a historical and current state of vaccine refusals Describe the impact of a vaccinepreventable disease on families and community Discuss the efficacies for invasive cervical cancer, in addition to other HPV cancers, which is nearly 100 percent preventable with the use of the HPV vaccine and appropriate screening Identify effective methods of advocacy to educate parents and students on the importance of competing the HPV series Increase knowledge of the physical, emotional, and psychosocial impact of HPV and cervical cancer AMA Accreditation The University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education to provide continuing medical education for physicians. Designation The University of Pittsburgh designates this live activity for a maximum of 6.0 AMA PRA Category 1 Credits. Physicians should claim only the credit commensurate with the extent of their participation in the activity. Other health care professionals are awarded 0.6 continuing education units (CEUs), which are equal to 6.0 contact hours. Nursing Accreditation UPMC is accredited as a provider of continuing nursing education by the American Nurses Credentialing Center s Commission on Accreditation. Nursing Contact Hours A maximum of 6.0 nursing contact hours will be awarded. Participants will be able to claim credit commensurate with the extent of their participation in the program. Accreditation refers to recognition of continuing nursing education activities only and does not imply UPMC or Commission on Accreditation approval or endorsement of any commercial product. ACPE Credit The University of Pittsburgh Center for Continuing Education in the Health Sciences is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education as a provider of continuing pharmacy education. This activity is eligible for ACPE credit; see final CPE activity announcement for specific details. AAFP Credit Application for CME credit has been filed with the American Academy of Family Physicians. Determination of credit is pending.

As a cervical cancer survivor and advocate, she has stood in front of more than 75,000 people, including policy makers, groups, and consumers, to share her story, music, hugs, and tears to create awareness of HPV, cervical cancer, and opportunities to prevent this deadly disease. Of note, Christine was named one of Ms. magazine's "50 Women of the Year" in 2003, she was given a Presidential Leadership Award in 2005, and in 2007 was named one of the nine "Women Who Shape the World" in Shape magazine. She has shared the stage and opened for a number of national musicians including Sheryl Crow, Ben Folds, Kaki King, and The Fray. Most recently, Christine can be seen in the awardwinning documentary "Someone You Love: The HPV Epidemic," as one of five women whose lives were forever changed by HPV and cervical cancer. Christine served one year as a committee member for the Massachusetts Department of Public Health HPV Initiative, in addition to being a member of the steering committee for the Massachusetts Comprehensive Cancer Control and Prevention Network, and co-chair for the HPV workgroup. Currently, Christine serves as a member of the National HPV Roundtable.
