Wohlgemuth, M.D., FACS, FASMBS Target Audience: Family Medicine Physicians, Internists, Hospitalists, Pediatricians, OB/GYNs, Specialty Physicians, Physician Assistants, Nurse Practitioners, RNs, Case Managers, and other Allied Health Professionals 07/2017
2 Program Overview This one-day conference will provide physicians and allied health providers with the most current, practical information about many facets of the treatment of obesity and its associated co-morbid conditions. Presentations will involve aspects of the medical and surgical treatment of obesity including dietary, holistic, and psychological issues surrounding weight management. Additional topics will focus on pharmaceutical management, urogynecological dysfunctions, and adults with diabetic co-morbid conditions. Course Objectives After completing this activity, participants should be better able to: Illustrate the robotic techniques in bariatric surgery. Describe the access challenges for the obese patient. Identify the relationship between obesity and increased cancer risk. Examine the urogynecological issues related to the pelvic floor dysfunctions. Describe an evidenced-based algorithm for the treatment of diabetes. Review commonly used medications which contributed to weight gain in the obese patient and possible substitutions. Review and compare weight loss medications for the medical management for the obese patient. Illustrate holistic nutritional approaches to weight management Accreditation Sentara Healthcare is accredited by the Medical Society of Virginia (MSV) to provide continuing medical education for physicians. Credit Designation Sentara Healthcare designates this live activity for a maximum of 6.25 AMA PRA Category 1 Credits. Physicians should only claim credit commensurate with the extent of their participation in the activity. Virginia Board of Medicine Physicians may claim up to 6.25 in Type 1 or Type 2 CME on the Virginia Board of Medicine Continued Competency and Assessment Form required for the renewal of an active medical license. ABIM MOC Statement Successful completion of this CME activity, which includes participation in the evaluation component, enables the participant to earn up to 6.25 MOC points in the American Board of Internal Medicine s (ABIM) Maintenance of Certification (MOC) program. Participants will earn MOC points equivalent to the amount of CME credits claimed for the activity. It is the CME activity provider s responsibility to submit participant completion information to ACCME for the purpose of granting ABIM MOC credit. AAFP Prescribed Credit Application for CME Credit has been filed with the American Academy of Family Physicians. Determination of credit is pending. Commission for Case Manager Certification (CMCC) This program has been pre-approved by The Commisson for Case Manager Certification for 6.25 clock hours. Nurses ANCC and the Virginia Board of Nursing accept AMA PRA Category 1 Credits from organizations accredited by the ACCME or a recognized state medical society for CNE. Physician Assistants AAPA accepts certificates of participation for educational activities certified for AMA PRA Category 1 Credits from organizations accredited by the ACCME or a recognized state medical society.
