New recommendations and guidelines will be addressed through didactic lectures and panel discussions. Target Audience Family practice physicians, pediatricians, internists, pharmacists, nurses, advanced practice providers, school nurses, nursing students, medical residents, and medical students will benefit from attendance at this activity.

3 Objectives At the conclusion of this activity, the participant should be able to: Describe updates from the Pennsylvania Department of Health immunization program Identify two misconceptions that parents have concerning vaccinations for preventable diseases Discuss new or improved communication skills to address parental concerns Discuss trends in the epidemiology of mumps, including recent outbreaks on college campuses Review vaccine recommendations for opioid users Discuss vaccines available and recommended for addicts Relate key communication points to patients regarding available options for shingles vaccination and effective methods to avoid potential side effects Discuss appropriate dosage and vaccine schedule for novel shingles vaccine Discuss common questions related to vaccine-preventable diseases Integrate the experiences of an influenza survivor s family into effective patient communication for prevention and preparation Describe the devastating effect that influenza can have on patients and families Utilize the recommended Advisory Committee on Immunization Practice (ACIP) schedules for children, adolescents, and adults Summarize the latest updates from the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) on vaccines and vaccine-preventable diseases Disclosure Faculty for this activity have been required to disclose all relationships with any proprietary entity producing health care goods or services, with the exemption of nonprofit or government organizations and non-health-care-related companies. AMA Accreditation The University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education to provide continuing medical education for physicians. ANCC Accreditation UPMC Provider Unit is accredited as a provider of continuing nursing education by the American Nurses Credentialing Center s Commission on Accreditation. 4 Cancellation Policy Tuition for cancellations postmarked or date stamped before Oct. 15, 2018, will be completely refunded. After Oct. 15, 2018, a $30 administration fee will be assessed. No refunds will be made after Oct. 22, 2018, however substitutes are welcome.
