The survey includes 32 data points measuring patients perceptions of their hospital experience. The survey time period was for discharges July 2015 June Every single member of the Torrance Memorial team should be proud of this achievement, which places us in the top 13% of hospitals in the state. During this period, 37 hospitals out of 292 in California achieved either 4 or 5 stars. Each of you impacts the quality of the experience our patients have during their stay. Thank you for taking the time to make each encounter caring and thoughtful. This achievement is particularly special because, while we have been working hard to improve the patient experience and earn four stars later this year, we achieved it early! Thank you! 1
2 Positive Patient Feedback Reflected in Survey Positive Patient Feedback Reflected in Survey Comments and Data by Mary Matson, Torrance Memorial Director of Service Excellence We receive many positive comments about physicians on patient experience surveys. Many of these comments reflect the good work being done to improve physician communication and show compassion. Here are a few examples (verbatim) followed by our current HCAHPS scores for Physician Communication. General Feedback about Physicians: Dr. explained what would happen after I left the hospital; appointments to see specialist were made for me - much appreciated. Very honest & explained everything. All physician contacts were good and informative- I was treated well. Specific Physician Feedback: I received everything I needed during my stay. The care and concern of the doctors not only helped me to be properly diagnosed, but saved my life. The day after my discharge, Dr Matin Hemmat called me at home to check on me, asking how my night was and if I'm doing OK. Today not many physicians make calls to patients at home. Dr. Hemmat is the most caring doctor, shows how much he enjoys his job and the caring for his patients. How lucky I am to have him as my doctor. My surgeon, Dr. Ali-Jones was amazing. She was kind, thoughtful and very immaculate in her care - she listened to what I had to say and kept me informed of all treatments, medications and what to expect. Very warm and gave me plenty of time with her. Very much appreciated. Dr. Rand was on top of the infection control. Went over medications, and was amazing how he controlled and resolved the infection - Both hospitalists - were attentive and checked on my care several times a day... Was able to communicate my needs to Dr. Ali-Jones easily. medical staff - Dr. Ali- Jones, Dr. David Rand, Dr. Kobayashi, and nursing staff included me in all decisions about my treatment. Very professional, warm and respective about my care. Would highly recommend Dr. Shrader! Dr. Rand is the best!! Dr. Bujor - the best. Dr. Rosenberg MD very professional excellent very grateful. Dr. McCann was amazing and great in our delivery, especially since he was a last minute back up for my OB. Wonderful bedside manner and great skill. My OB/GYN was out of town so I had a back up - back up Dr. & he was great! Dr. Naghi! Dr. Lorber was fabulous. Dr. Baker was amazing! I liked how she triaged me before I went back so orders were ready for me. She treated me like a human not a number. She came to check on me and was genuinely concerned. She even talked to my daughter! I really like how informed both the dr. and the male nurse kept me. I appreciated that the dr. listened to me and understood what I was saying. Ellen Baker, MD was amazing, kind, compassionate, professional and attentive to my concerns. Doctor was treated was absolutely incredible. I was very impressed with her! Dr. Ashley Sanello was a real trooper as my case was a bloody mess. Dr. Kennedy was kind & understanding - felt very your hospital. Was involved in a traffic accident, ER Dr. Kennedy & staff were outstanding! I was very impressed with Doctor Lent. She was very helpful & concerned. She is excellent. Excellent experience I was very pleased with Heidi Schoepflin PA she is very respectful, confident, thorough, humane, empathetic. Please praise her for her excellent service. I'm in the medical field and I was very impressed with Heidi. Wonderful experience overall. Nurse Heather & Dr. Matthew were fantastic. Dr. Gray was very nice, and took care of me quickly. I had received prostate cancer radiation treatments from Doctor Simko in the mid 1990 s. He was successful then in his job and I trust him to do likewise this time too. This is absolutely the best medical team ever! Dr. Endicott and her staff are extremely caring, nurturing, sensitive and they have a sense of humor. We are able to have fun with each other in spite of the circumstances. They rock! Dr. Jensen is amazing, caring and takes his time. So thankful for his care. Continued... 2
