3 SUCCESS WITH FAILURE: An Advanced Heart Disease Symposium PURPOSE: This symposium will enable practitioners to gain insight in to the latest diagnostic and therapeutic advances for patients with advanced cardiac disease. This continuing medical education program is designed for physicians and allied health professionals, including nurse practitioners, transplant coordinators, physician assistants, RNs and case managers interested in the prevention and management of heart failure, heart transplant evaluation, post-transplant care and surgical options in heart failure. COURSE OBJECTIVES: Upon completion of the program, the participants will be able to: 1. Define the guidelines for the treatment of heart failure. 2. Describe surgical and interventional strategies for patients with advanced heart failure, including regenerative therapy, ventricular assist devices, and ablation therapy. 3. Differentiate treatment options for patients with advanced heart failure, including the use of established and novel medications, transplantation and palliative care. 4. Identify strategies for improving patient outcomes post hospitalization, including caregiver support and patient engagement. 5. Examine key clinical issues in pre and post care of the transplant patient.
