AMERICANS WITH DISABILITIES ACT (ADA) INFORMATION Standard testing cnditins may represent an artificial barrier t candidates with disabilities. Candidates may request accmmdatins that will be evaluated n the basis f the Americans with Disabilities Act. Yu may cntact D.L. Candidate Handbk EXAM APPLICATIONS If yu graduated frm a schl licensed by the Idah Bard, a paper exam applicatin may be btained frm yur schl r yu may cmplete an nline exam applicatin. If yu graduated in anther state, yu may visit ur website at t print a paper Out f State exam applicatin r t apply nline. Online exam applicatins are available n ur website at Exam fees and licensing fees may be paid with any debit r credit card thrugh a secure payment prcessing service. Yur nline applicatin will transfer t yur schl if yu graduated frm a licensed schl in Idah. Once yu are apprved by yur schl fr testing, yur nline applicatin is transferred t ur system, ur staff reviews yur applicatin fr cmpleteness, and if it is cmplete yu will be sent an letting yu knw that yu are apprved and that yu will be scheduled fr yur examinatin. If yur applicatin is nt apprved, ur staff will cntact yu by phne r regarding the deficiencies in yur applicatin. Cmplete applicatins must be received by D.L. Rpe Administratins by the deadline date indicated next t the requested exam week. Applicatins received after the deadline date will be scheduled based n space availability. If yu have missed the deadline date and the requested examinatin week is full, yu will be scheduled fr the next available exam week. Practical exam weeks and deadline dates are listed n the exam applicatins n ur website at COMPUTERIZED WRITTEN EXAMINATION INFORMATION Once ur ffice receives a cmplete applicatin, an apprval is sent t Is-Quality Testing (IQT) fr the cmputerized written examinatin. Candidates receive an frm IQT with instructins n hw t schedule the written examinatin if an address was prvided n the applicatin. If an address was nt prvided, IQT will mail instructins n hw t apply fr the written examinatin. Please d nt schedule yur written examinatin until yu have received yur practical exam admissin letter in the mail t avid inadvertently scheduling the written exam n the same day and time as yur practical exam. Yu must schedule yur cmputerized written examinatin within 6 mnths r yur apprval and yur examinatin fee will expire. 4

Candidate Handbk EXAMINATION SCHEDULING PROCEDURES Candidates submit an exam applicatin nline r they may submit a paper applicatin if they prefer alng with the examinatin fee fr the written and practical examinatin t D.L. Rpe Administratins Inc. t be received by the deadline date indicated n the back f the applicatin. Applicatins received after the deadline date are scheduled based n space availability. Practical examinatin admissin letters are mailed t the candidates fllwing the examinatin deadline date f the candidate s requested exam week. This letter cnfirms the scheduled practical examinatin. It als includes the date, time, lcatin and directins t the practical examinatin testing lcatin. Candidates will receive an frm Is-Quality Testing (IQT) with instructins n hw t schedule the written examinatin if an address was prvided n the exam applicatin. If an address was nt prvided, they will receive their written scheduling infrmatin frm IQT via mail and an additinal cpy will be prvided alng with their practical exam admissin letter. Candidates may schedule their wn cmputerized written examinatin by clicking n the link in their apprval . This link takes them int the written scheduling prtal r they may schedule by calling and speaking with a telephne supprt specialist. Candidates lg in using their assigned candidate number and secure passwrd. The cmputerized written scheduling prtal shws the apprved examinatin fr the candidate and infrms the candidate f the lcatin that is clsest t their zip cde. The scheduling prtal shws all available seats fr the next 30 days. The candidate has the ptin f selecting anther test site if desired. The candidate selects the date and time f their preference frm a drp dwn menu. Once selected, all details f their selected exam date, time and lcatin appear n the screen and the candidate cnfirms all details and clicks t submit. The candidate prints their admissin letter and they als receive an cnfirming their scheduled examinatin. EXAMINATION FEE POLICY Examinatin fees are nt refundable r transferable and will be applied t the scheduled examinatin. Examinatin fees are valid fr 6 mnths frm date f receipt. Yur examinatin date must be prir t the 6 mnth expiratin f yur examinatin fee. If yu d nt attend yur scheduled examinatin, cannt be admitted, r if yu arrive late, yur examinatin fee will be frfeited. T be rescheduled yu must submit a rescheduling applicatin and anther examinatin fee. If yu are unable t attend yur scheduled examinatin due t an emergency situatin, yu must prvide written dcumentatin. The fllwing situatins may be cnsidered fr rescheduling: Yu are in a car accident n the way t the examinatin - dcumentatin frm a law enfrcement fficer is required. Yu have a medical emergency - dcumentatin frm a medical prfessinal is required. A death in yur immediate family a cpy f the bituary indicating yur relatin r a letter frm the funeral hme stating yur relatin t the deceased. Dcumentatin must be faxed t within 24 hurs after yur scheduled examinatin fr review. If apprved, yu will be ntified and permitted t reschedule yur examinatin. Examinatins may be rescheduled ne time nly due t a dcumented and apprved emergency situatin. 5

It will als include the date, time, lcatin and directins fr yur examinatin. Reprt t the practical examinatin site n the date and time indicated n yur admissin letter. Registratin begins 30 minutes prir t the scheduled examinatin time. Examinatins begin prmptly at the scheduled time. Please allw fr unexpected delays n rute t the testing lcatin, it is yur respnsibility t reprt t the examinatin lcatin n time. Late candidates will be required t re-apply and re-pay the examinatin fee. Yu must present yur admissin letter and a valid gvernment issued pht identificatin that must include a pht and signature. TESTING SITE VISITOR POLICY NO VISITORS WILL BE ALLOWED AT THE TESTING SITE. Candidates are nt allwed visitrs r t receive messages during the exam. Peple that are nt scheduled fr an examinatin are nt permitted inside f the building where the exams are administered. If anther persn (parent, spuse, teacher etc.) is bringing yu t yur exam, yu must be drpped ff and they can return t pick yu up. The apprximate amunt f time fr each exam is indicated in this handbk in the sectin titled EXAMINATION SECTIONS. Yur driver shuld wait in their vehicle until yu are dne and have exited the building. PROFESSIONAL ATTIRE Candidates must arrive in neat, clean, prfessinal attire. Unifrms are nt required. Fr cnfidentiality reasns, please cver all identifying marks n yur attire r kit. Candidate Handbk KIT & SUPPLY INFORMATION Candidates are respnsible fr bringing all needed supplies fr their examinatin and cannt brrw r use anything that they did nt bring with them. A suggested supply list is included in the NIC Candidate Infrmatin Bulletin (CIB) that is included with this handbk. Recmmended kit size is n larger than 30 x 30. Fr safety reasns all kits, trash bags, etc. must be able t fit cmpletely under yur wrk area. A flat bttm bag (grcery bag, gift bag, etc.) may be used fr items t be disinfected, siled linens and trash and placed n the flr, under the statin and clearly labeled. The bags r cntainers n the flr may be pen during the examinatin s that the candidates can drp items as apprpriate int each bag. Bags r cntainers MUST be kept under the wrk area and cannt be placed in the walking areas. If placing a cntainer with Items t be Disinfected n the wrk area, it MUST have a cver. Candidates are nt permitted t use aersl prducts at any time during the examinatins. disinfectants, sanitizers and prducts MUST be nn-aersl. All Candidates may bring a cntainer f water if needed fr any sectin f the examinatin and may bring a therms f ht water if desired. All water and their cntainers must be taken with the candidates and may nt be dispsed f at the testing facility. Candidates are NOT permitted t use wax heaters at any time during the practical examinatin. Wax prduct are simulated and d nt need t remve hair (e.g. hney, chlesterl, etc.) Candidates shuld select prducts that will enable them t demnstrate all tasks in each service. PROHIBITED ITEMS NOT ALLOWED Due t exam security reasns, the fllwing items are NOT permitted: N electrnic devices, cellular phnes, textbks, study materials, watches, purses, etc. These items shuld be left at hme r lcked in yur vehicle during the examinatins. Cell phnes r any electrnic device cannt be in the exam rm even if it is turned ff. If it is discvered that yu have a cell phne in the exam rm nce the exam has started, yu will be immediately dismissed frm the exam and yur actins will be reprted t the prper authrities. Yu may bring ne clear plastic ziplck bag with the fllwing items int the examinatin rms: Pht identificatin, admissin letter, car keys, medicatin & persnal hygiene items. Yu will be instructed t place yur zip lck bag under yur wrk area and it may nt be tuched during the examinatin. If yu have medicatin that yu may need during the examinatin, please raise yur hand and a prctr will assist yu. Due t safety issues during the examinatins, tripds may NOT be used during the Csmetlgy, Barbering r Esthetics practical examinatins. Candidates may nly use mannequin stands that attach t the wrk statin. Instructrs may use a tripd during their Thery Lecture r Demnstratin as this des nt cause a safety issue. 7

Candidate Handbk MANNEQUIN INFORMATION The NIC Candidate Infrmatin Bulletin (CIB) that is included with this handbk cntains generic mannequin/mdel infrmatin fr all states natinally, please refer t the fllwing mannequin infrmatin fr testing in the state f Idah. Mdels will NOT be permitted. Candidates must bring ne mannequin head fr the practical examinatin and a table clamp. N mre than tw mannequin heads will be allwed int the examinatin. The mannequin s hair must be brushed straight back prir t the thermal curling sectin f the examinatin. It is suggested that ne mannequin be curled prir t the examinatin fr the purpse f simulating thermal curling with a cld irn. The mannequin s hair must be brushed straight back prir t the thermal curling sectin f the examinatin. Mannequin heads that have been purchased pre-sectined indicating the sectins by varius clrs and/r ntches are NOT allwed during any part f the practical examinatin. Candidates that bring a marked mannequin head t the examinatin will be infrmed that they are nt permitted and cannt be used. Candidates must als bring a mannequin hand fr the manicure sectin f this examinatin. Prir t reprting t the examinatin candidates MUST apply a nail t each finger. The artificial nail must cver the entire nail bed f each finger. Mannequin hands must be an entire hand and cannt have remvable digits. Mannequin heads and hands must be apprved by the examinatin prvider prir t admittance int examinatin. Candidate Handbk NIC HEALTH AND SAFETY STANDARDS INFECTION CONTROL AND SAFETY STANDARDS NIC Infectin Cntrl WET DISINFECTION and STORAGE STANDARD 1) Prir t use n any client, all nn-prus tls and implements r multi-use items must be cleaned AND disinfected. Items must be cleaned with sap and warm water r a chemical cleaner. The items must then be disinfected by cmplete immersin in an EPA registered, bactericidal, virucidal, fungicidal (Frmulated fr Hspitals) disinfectant that is mixed and used accrding t the manufacturer s directins. When allwed by state rule, disinfectant sprays and wipes that are bactericidal, virucidal and fungicidal are acceptable frms f disinfectin fllwing the cleaning f the item. Nte: Items that are prus are nt able t be disinfected and must be dispsed f after each use. 2) Items MUST stay immersed r visibly mist with disinfectant fr the entire cntact time listed n the manufacturer s label t be effective. 3) All disinfectant slutin must be changed per the manufacturer s label r sner if cntaminated. DRY STORAGE STANDARD Disinfected implements must be stred in a disinfected, dry, cvered cntainer and be islated frm cntaminants. At n time can these items cme int cntact with used/dirty items. HAND WASHING Thrughly wash hands and the expsed prtins f arms with sap and water befre prviding services t each client and after smking, drinking, eating, and using the restrm. NAIL TECHNOLOGY Practical Examinatins Liquid Mnmer cntaining Methyl Methacrylate (MMA) is prhibited fr use during NIC practical examinatins. NIC strngly recmmends, due t the testing envirnment, that drless sculpture nail prducts be used during the NIC practical examinatins. 11

Candidate Handbk NIC BLOOD EXPOSURE PROCEDURE IF A BLOOD EXPOSURE SHOULD OCCUR, THE FOLLOWING STEPS MUST BE FOLLOWED: When pssible injured party shuld g t a sink and rinse injury with running water and milk the injury if pssible t remve any bacteria that may have entered the wund. Supply injured party with antiseptic r single use packet f antibacterial intment and the apprpriate dressing t cver the injury. Bag all bld-siled (cntaminated) prus articles and dispse f in trash. Immediately wash and disinfect all nn-prus items (d nt cntinue service with these items). This is the respnsibility f the candidate/student/licensee and shuld be executed as fllws: CANDIDATE/STUDENT/LICENSEE INJURY PROTECTION If a cut is sustained, stp the service, put n glves (if apprpriate) and clean the injured area. APPLY antiseptic t the injured area. DRESSING - Cver the injury with the apprpriate adhesive dressing. COVER injured area with finger guard r glve if apprpriate. BAG and dispse f all cntaminated single use items. REMOVE glves and wash hands. CLEAN mdel/client. CLEAN AND DISINFECT implements and statin. CLEAN hands RETURN t the service. MODEL/CLIENT INJURY STOP service. GLOVE hands f candidate/student/licensee. CLEAN injured area. APPLY antiseptic. COVER the injury with the apprpriate dressing t prevent further bld expsure. BAG and dispse f all cntaminated single use items. CLEAN and disinfect any implements r surfaces cntaminated CLEAN hands RETURN t service.
