16 10.3 Lck-dwn prcedure When an external and immediate danger is identified and it is determined that the children shuld be secured inside the building fr their wn safety the Chief Warden n-site will take charge and activate the IMT if necessary. Initiate the lck-dwn and prvide instructins t educatrs and staff, fr example, clse internal drs and windws, remain in classrm, sit belw windw level, r mve int crridrs. Check that all external drs (and windws if apprpriate) are lcked. If available, allcate educatrs/staff t be psted at lcked drs t allw children, educatrs, staff and visitrs t enter if lcked ut. Divert parents and returning grups frm the facility if required. Ensure a telephne line is kept free. Keep public address system free. Keep main entrance as the nly entry pint. It must be cnstantly mnitred and n unauthrised peple allwed access. As apprpriate, ascertain that all children, educatrs, staff and visitrs are accunted fr. If it is safe t d s, have an educatr/staff member wait at the main entry t the facility t guide emergency services persnnel. As apprpriate, cnfirm with emergency services persnnel that it is safe t return t nrmal peratins. 18 10.5 Shelter-in-place prcedure When an incident ccurs utside the educatin and care service r children s service and emergency services r the Chief Warden determines the safest curse f actin is t keep children, educatrs and staff inside a designated building in the facility (as evacuatin might reasnably expse peple t a greater level f danger until the external event is handled), the Chief Warden n-site will take charge and activate the IMT if necessary. Call 000 fr emergency services and seek and fllw advice. Chief Warden activates the IMT.
