2 Ibulletin California state college, sen bernandino May 29, 1981 PRESIDENT PFAU RETURNS FROM TRIP TO CHINAS President and Mrs. John M. Pfau returned Saturday from a three-week trip to Taiwan, mainland China and Japan. For the first 11 days, President Pfau was part of a delegation of five state college and university presidents invited to Taiwan by the Ministry of Education of the Republic of China. The invitation, extended through the American Assn. of State Colleges and Universities, was designed to strengthen the educational and cultural ties between AASUC members and colleges in Taiwan. The Americans toured five universities in Taipei: National Chen Kung University, Soochow Methodist University, National Taiwan University, National Taiwan Institute of Technology and National Chengchi University. They also met with the minister of education. Dr. Chu Hwei-Sen. After the Taiwan meetings, the Pfaus spent several days in Hong Kong and then went on a three-day tour to Canton. Enroute home they spent a brief time in Tokyo and Kyoto, Japan. President Pfau reported the Taiwan educators are interested in increased facultystudent exchanges with American universities. He found it very evident that Taiwan is placing great emphasis on education at all levels and that the country is expanding opportunities in higher education.
