SAN BERNARDINO The BULLETIN October 26, 1973 A Moliere Tricentenary celebration featuring TRICENTENARY a lecture, reception, dinner and theatrical presentation will be observed on campus Saturday, November 10. j\ie SCENE** The tricentenary observing the 300th anniversary of the death of Moliere, 17th Century poet an playwright who raised comedy to a great art, begins at 4 p.m. with a talk on the great French author. The events will continue; with a reception at 5:30,during which the Cal State student string quartet will play, followed by dinner- Reception and dinner will be held in the Lower commons, The evening event is a presentation of two Moliere plays, "The Versaille impromptu" and "The Physician in Spite of Himself" by the Players of the Pear Garden in the Little Theatre. Curtain time is 8:15. Community residents and members of the campus community are invited to the tricentenary celebration. Tickets. $8 each, may be purchased at the School of Humanities Office, LC 233, Ext ELECTION DAY, NOV. 6, WILL BE WORKING HOLIDAY All offices and classes will be on regular schedule during Election Day, November 6. ARLO HARRIS, The little known work of an eccentric 19th Cen- CHEMIST-PIANIST tury French composer will be performed by CSCSB chemist-pianist professor Arlo Harris in a noon recital Wednesday, October 31 in. Dr. Harris, who studied and played with the Cincinnati Symphonv Orchestra as a youth, will discuss the life of composer Erik Satie as he plays his musical compositions. Dr. Harris has collected everything published by Satie, a teacher of Maurice Ravel and Igor Stravinsky. The composer did not specify bars or the time the music was to be played in. He also wrote "crazy words" to his piano selections, according to Dr. Harris. Dr. Harris, Assoc. Prof, of Chemistry, has continued his interest in music as a hobby. He made his concert debut with the Cincinnati Symphony at age 19 and has appeared on radio and television and in night clubs. The entire College community as well as the public is invited to the concert. There is no admission charge. EVENING OFFICE TO OPEN OCT. 31 Mrs. Evelyn Thomason will be on duty in the newlyestablished Evening Services Center, beginning Wednesday, October 31. Mrs. Thomason's hours will be from 4:15 to 9:15 p.m.,mondays through Thursdays in the Library-Classroom Building in Room 226. The on-campus extension for the Center is 582. The conference, set for 3:30 p.m. October 30, Maria Prather, French major, was awarded a $500 scholarship from the Modern and Classical Language Assn. of Southern California at a presentation made October 24 at the associationjs fall conference at the Grand Hotel in Anaheim. Mrs. Prather has been on the President's List, earning straight A's in all courses taken on campus. Burt Chowninq, senior music major, who performed in the summer stock musical theatre in Coeur d' Alene, Id., was recommended by the director to audition for the Serendipity Singers, a popular wellknown dancing and singing group. Mr. Chowning has joined the group and is now on tour. Juanita Phillipsen, senior music major and member of the CSCSB Opera Workshop, has been given the lead of "Maria" in the Corona Community Playhouse production of "The Sound of Music," with opening night on November 1, followed by performances on Nov. 2, 3, 8, 9 and 10. ie * * Craig Biddle, State Senator from Riverside, who has TALKS been called the author of the legislation on the California smog device, will speak on reapportionment and air pollution on campus Tuesday, October 30 at 4 p.m. The talk, open to all, is scheduled in PS-122 during Asst. Prof. Dale Wagner's State and Local Government Class. Ann ivey, R.N.,Director of Public Health Nursing of San Bernardino County, will speak on Public Health Nursing Services on Monday, October 29 at 4 p.m. in the Health Sciences class of Assoc. Prof.Amer El-Ahraf in. Richard Roberts, Dir., Environmental Health Services and Gene Zdunowski. Vector Control Specialist/Training Officer,Dept. of Environmental Health Services, will speak on Environmental Health Services in San Bernardino County on Wednesday, October 31,, 4 p.m. William Ackerman, Asst. Prof. Geography, will give a slide presentation on Argentina and chile at the Armchair Travel Series Wednesday, Oct. 31 at noor ir LC-212. Originally scheduled for Thursday, tne program was moved up a day to accommodate Career Day on Nov. 1. The series will return to Thursdays with the next event on Nov. 15.
