2 Letter from the Director Dear Residents, I hope you all had an enjoyable and restful summer. As we move into fall, cooler weather, and the beginning of the new school year, we have many exciting events planned at the Library! Our always popular Storytimes are perfect for infants, toddlers, and preschoolers, and we are offering numerous programs for children in grades K-5, tweens, and teens! Our adult programs and classes cover a wide range of interesting topics. I m sure as you browse through this newsletter you will find many programs that are ideal for you and your family. Please stop by and take advantage of everything we have to offer! I look forward to seeing you at the Library! Sincerely, Dr. Roger Podell SIGNATURE EVENTS JOURNEY FROM JOHANNESBURG Sunday, September 24, 2:30 p.m. Through song, story, and image, songwriter and musician Toby Tobias recounts how he left Johannesburg, a city that ignited his passions but crushed the lives of his countrymen, for Jerusalem, where he explored his ideals, before coming to New York, to discover his true calling as a songwriter and proud son of South Africa. WILD GINGER Sunday, October 22, 2:00 p.m. This three-woman a cappella vocal ensemble will give a captivating performance featuring a variety of African chants, European chansons, and American folk songs. GREAT GIVE BACK In celebration of our library s contributions to the community, we will be participating in the Suffolk Cooperative Library System s Great Give Back event. From October 1-31, we will be collecting new and gently used coats in the library lobby to benefit Helping Hands of Huntington Station. On Saturday, October 14, families can drop in to create housewarming gifts for Habitat for Humanity home recipients or photo frames for newly adopted pets of the Little Shelter of Huntington. Drop by to make a craft from 10:00 a.m.-4:00 p.m.! We appreciate your support!
