Up for the challenge? NaNoWriMo stands for National Novel Writing Month. During the month of November, budding authors aim to write a novel in 30 days! The Auburn Public Library will be a designated writing space, and host several programs dedicated to the novel writing experience. All NaNoWriMo events are free and open to all ages, except where otherwise noted. Refreshments will be provided at all events. The terrifying, spine-tingling, shriekinducing, haunted wing of the library will be open to willing adventurers, and we ll also have carnival games, candy, music, and a spooky photo booth! Join us on Friday, December 1, choose from an array of festive stationery, markers, and pencils and enjoy cookies, cider, and a little music as you write to Santa your holiday wishes! Parents, please join in the fun so that even the youngest new writers can clearly express themselves, and the librarians can get clear addresses for Santa and his elves! 5 Adult Programs September-December 2017 Forever YA Book Club Do you love YA literature, but you are definitely a little les Y and a little more A? Please joins us for a Forever YA book club meeting at Panera Bread on the last Saturday of the month. This club is for adults who love Young Adult literature and want to share in a lively discussion, while enjoying a scone or two. This is a show and tell book group, so everyone is free to read any book(s) fiction or non-fiction and present it to the group. A lively discussion ensues! COME AS OFTEN AS YOU CAN! 6 Beginner s Crochet Class Have you always wanted to learn how to crochet but didn t know where to start? The Auburn Public Library will be hosting FREE crochet classes for absolute beginners! In these classes, you will learn three basic stitches: chain stitch, single crochet and double crochet! Each class will consist of a single 1 ½ hour session. Ages 10 and up: Please register at libraryevents@auburnalabama.org for one class to secure your spot! Classes are capped at 6 students, so don t delay! What you need to bring: One crochet hook (size G or larger) and one skein of light colored, medium-weight yarn. One Auburn. Dr. Brigitta Brunner- Johnson, an Auburn University Journalism Professor, and David Hart, Vice-President of WBRL-TV, will discuss fake news. Bring your questions and join us for this lively discussion! Tuesday 9/19-6:00 p.m. Program Room Read and Reflect: Book Club for Seniors Join us at the Harris Senior Center for Read and Reflect, our monthly book club for seniors! Each month, we ll discuss a particular book that inspires, intrigues, or amazes, including both classic and contemporary works of fiction and non-fiction. Join us for an afternoon of sharing sweet treats and their recipes. Please bring three (3) dozen of your favorite holiday treats to share, along with copies of the recipe. 8 Teen Programs Gamers Society It s Game On at the Auburn Public Library. The Programming Room will be open every Thursday for Yu-Gi-Oh, Pokemon, and video games. Gamers must bring their own materials. The Auburn Public Library will provide materials for video game play. Games must be rated E, E10, or T; no rated M games. 10 Saturday STEM Storytime Preschoolers 2nd grade children and their caregivers are invited to join us for a storytime on Saturday mornings that is all about STEM. STEM stands for Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math. This storytime will focus on these concepts in a fun, interactive, story-driven format. Please note: Some activities may involve messy fun! All proceeds from the Friends book sales benefit the Auburn Public Library and help extend the library s positive impact on our community. Through your support, whether by purchasing books or donating outright, the Friends are able to provide support for a number of library activities, including: Weekly early literacy programs for babies, toddlers, and preschoolers The Auburn Public Library s Summer Learning Challenge One Book One Village, Auburn s community reading program Other activities that help make the library a welcoming destination and a vital community resource What can you do to help?
