2 Letter to our readers Dear Residents, On April 14 we held our annual Budget Vote and Trustee Election. Your votes of support tell us that we are providing the services you expect, and your confidence in our ability to assist our residents means so much to us. I must thank Library Trustee Sandra Capek-O Grady for once again procuring funds from BNY Mellon Wealth Management to sponsor all of the programs on Election Day. The MakerBot Replicator 3D printer will be back in the Children s Room during the month of June. If you missed the printer the last time it was here, plan to stop by and see this amazing machine at work. Do you have something you would like to print and take home? A form will be available at the Children s Desk for special print requests for CSH patrons. On Wednesday, May 20, we will be holding a lifesaving Narcan training session. This program is co-sponsored by the Long Island Council on Alcoholism & Drug Dependence, and participants over the age of 18 will receive a Narcan kit. Community members are invited to attend this informative demonstration, which will empower individuals with the knowledge of how to save a life. We are looking forward to our summer reading clubs for children, teens, and adults. Our annual Summer Reading Club Kickoff Carnival is scheduled for Thursday, June 25, from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. There will be a petting zoo, and the CSH Lions Club will be selling raffle tickets for a kayak. Each year, the CSH Lions Club donates a portion of the proceeds from their September Fishing Derby to children s library events. We are grateful for their support. Best regards, Diane Scinta Interim Library Director CHANCE TO CHOOSE Three Part Workshop For tween girls in grades 5-6 Tuesdays, May 19, May 26 & June 2, 6:30-8:00 p.m. Through three interactive workshops, Chance to Choose will challenge girls with real-world scenarios, teach them how to identify and weigh the choices they have, and give them insight into the long-term consequences (good and bad) of their decisions. Chance to Choose gives girls the chance to choose compassion, kindness, happiness, self-confidence, and success. Signature Event LECTURE BY HOMEGROWN LONG ISLAND COOKBOOK AUTHOR LEEANN LAVIN Thursday, May 14, 7:00 p.m. Leeann Lavin, author of The Hamptons & Long Island Homegrown Cookbook, will reveal the recipes and locally grown ingredients that Long Island celebrity chefs use to create their delicious cuisine. Copies of her book will be available for purchase/signing. Advance registration required. NARCAN TRAINING Wednesday, May 20, 7:00-8:30 p.m. Participants will learn how to recognize the signs of an opioid overdose, attempt rescue breathing, and administer a medication called Naloxone, or Narcan. This drug can reverse the potentially fatal effects of a heroin or prescription painkiller overdose, and save a person s life. No prior medical experience is necessary to participate in the training. Narcan has been on ambulances and in emergency rooms for decades; however, New York State law allows ordinary citizens to administer it in an emergency situation without fear of a lawsuit or arrest. All trainees over the age of 18 will receive a kit. Open to all; registration requested. CSH LIBRARY NOW HAS A SUBSCRIPTION TO LYNDA.COM! Lynda.com is an online resource that allows you to learn software, creative, and business skills at your own pace. Visit to choose from thousands of video courses, and view them on your computer, tablet, or mobile device. 2
