1 Paramount s Essential City Services and Public Safety Protection Measure Dear Neighbor, We have an election approaching on March 3 rd in Paramount. Measure P, the Essential City Services and Public Safety Protection Measure, is on our ballot. Residents are encouraged to vote and to learn as much about Measure P as possible. The State has taken huge amounts of funds from cities, which in Paramount has created a $6 million a year hole in our City budget. To address this, the Paramount City Council voted unanimously at its December 2 nd meeting to place Measure P, the Essential City Service and Public Safety Protection Measure, on our local Paramount ballot. Measure P updates the ordinance and rate for the City s Utility Users Tax to require equal treatment of taxpayers regardless of the technology used. Measure P contains rigorous fiscal oversight and accountability safeguards, including mandatory financial audits and no increase in the tax rate without voter approval. Measure P creates a guaranteed source of local funds that cannot be taken by Sacramento. These local funds will assist in maintaining/restoring: Youth after-school education programs. Sheriff patrols at Paramount s local schools/parks and in neighborhoods police response services. Street, pothole and sidewalk repairs. Programs for local seniors such as healthy lunches, meals-on-wheels and senior support services. Anyone with questions on Measure P, or voting-related questions, can call us at (562) or visit for further information. Also, there will be a Town Hall Meeting held on Thursday, Feb. 19 th at 7:00 p.m. at Progress Park Plaza, Downey Ave., Paramount where you can gain more information about Measure P. It is free and open to everyone to attend. Remember to participate in our local election through voting by mail or by going to your polling place on March 3 rd. We will be closed: February 16, 2015 in observance of the President s Day.
