4 CCSCA MEMBER OF THE YEAR CAROLYN CONWAY The Culver City Senior Citizens Association is pleased to honor Carolyn Conway Member of the Year for 2016 Carolyn started doing volunteer work as a teenager when she was a Debutante and had to do a year of volunteer service on a weekly basis. She got hooked on the joy, smiles and happiness that could be brought to someone else, a priceless experience. Carolyn truly enjoys volunteering and says she will continue to be of service to others as long as she can. She is passionate about sharing whatever knowledge and experience that she can give. Her 50 plus years of volunteering is reflected in the extensive list of the benefactors of her service: nursing homes; VA hospitals; Kaiser Emergency Room; Camps for the Handicapped (Camp Counselor); Habitat for Humanity; Telethons - and the list goes on! Carolyn s current volunteer work is at her church where she serves as Secretary on the Board of Trustees, the Chairperson of the Greeters/Ushers and teacher of the Sunday School and VBS summer program. She also mentors a teenager from her church community. Since joining the Culver City Senior Citizens Association over 8 years ago, Carolyn has volunteered for the Wednesday Work Project, at the CC Fire Department, the CC Housing Authority and as part of the volunteer SWAT Team (Someone With Available Time). She also makes weekly phone calls to seniors who receive food from Meals on Wheels. For several years, Carolyn has served on the CCSCA Board of Directors and the last two years as Vice President. She also puts in extensive time on the following CCSCA sub -committees: Membership, Code of Conduct,Computer Lab, Finance and By-Laws. Carolyn is proud to be a member of the Merry Makers Club, one of the oldest in Culver City. She has served as Secretary and President and will serve again as President in Carolyn comes from a wonderful loving family and had a very happy childhood with her 10 siblings, one of whom is her twin sister. She has a degree in Liberal Arts and retired from the Dept. of Veterans Affairs after 36 years of service. Her passion is Genealogy research. Since 1980, she has been doing research on her father and mother s families and has written a book for her mother s side of the family. Carolyn loves to read, dance and listen to music, that is, when she is not volunteering! Having experienced the joys of being a volunteer for so many years, it is no wonder that Carolyn states: I feel Blessed to have time to give back to my community and church. I do it because I want to put the needs of others before mine. I feel Blessed beyond words. I like me and I am happy with the person I am and who I have become. And how fortunate we are that Carolyn has given so much of herself to our CCSCA community! We thank Carolyn for all her hard work and dedication and we congratulate her on being our Member of the Year. IN MEMORIAM CHET MOATS Virginia Nelson Robert Sapien
