Workshops Nuts and Bolts of Intramural Leadership John Byl & Wig Baldauf Sample a simplified workshop of helping students learn to be effective leaders in your school s intramural program. Fitness: Anywhere, Anytime, Any Place Ted Temertzoglou Using the new Elementary Functional Fitness Charts developed by Thompson Educational Publishing, this active session takes you through two circuit games; Code Breaker, Minute 2 Win It & Family Fitness Fun Fairs. This is an excellent workshop for teachers looking for inclusive fitness games for intramurals and H&PE classes. Lesson plans of the fitness games will be there for the taking. 4

The Groove: A Student-Centered Approach to Dance Movement Michelle Hillier Would you love to see your students being playful, imaginative, active and interactive using movement and creativity? Come experience an innovative approach to facilitating dance using simple moves, wicked music and positive messaging to support BODY, BRAIN and BEING... we call it Groove! The Groove EDGEucation is proud to be in over 20 school boards leading student programs and teacher PD. 5

Adapted Physical Activity: Meeting the Needs of Students Who Have Developmental Disabilities (Cognitive, Physical, ASD) Megan Hartwell & Mike Morand Participants will experience the structure of gym classes designed for a population of students who have a variety of special education needs. Differentiated instruction will be highlighted throughout all components of the lesson to meet the needs of individuals who require both physical and cognitive modifications. Inclusive warm ups and core activities will be presented. Importance of Play in Physical Literacy Lynn Campanella Not every child will be an athlete but every child should have the opportunity to learn the proper techniques in order to be physically literate. The best way for children (of all ages) to practice these techniques is through play. Play is a natural process for accelerated learning, yet some people still perceive Play to be a frivolous time-waster. They have a lot to learn! 67

Barenaked Games Kirstin Schwass Come to engage in a wide variety of CIRA Ontario games that are fun, active, inclusive, and require no equipment. Great for those times when you need to add a quick game and have no equipment handy, or when you simply have few pieces of equipment, or when you have someone teaching for you but you do not want to pass on the equipment room key. Children will also be able to pick up these games on their own afterwards since they do not need any equipment either. Physical + Numeracy + Literacy = 21st Century Learners Ted Temertzoglou This is an excellent workshop for teachers looking for cross-curricular integration using the Functional Fitness Charts developed by Thompson Educational. In this active workshop we will play Quis Quiz Do, Fitnicus, Summit Challenge and Fitness Buddies all to enhance physical literacy for 21st century learners. PE Games: How to Keep the Most Kids Active for the Most Amount of Time Dave Helm Focusing on fitness/game-based approach to physical education, this session will demonstrate how to keep the most kids active for the most amount of time possible. Applying this philosophy to the gym, classroom and outdoors, participants will be taught a myriad of fast-paced, fitnessfocused games. You ll have more fun than you ve ever had in a gym before! 8

Educators as Key Influencers Introducing the Parasport to Children with Disabilities Chris Bourne Family Fitness Night Tips Aviva Rosenberg This workshop educates key influencers in the lives of children with a disability about parasport opportunities, the Paralympic movement, the associated social and health benefits of regular sport activity, through a show and tell of an athlete s equipment, case studies and videos. Recreation and Education Professionals will gain the confidence to encourage parasport participation. I will take participants through a highly successful Family Fitness Night we organized at our school. I believe that parents/guardians and students do not spend enough quality physical activity time together. I also believe that schools should have a connection with the community around them. By offering a Family Fitness Night, I hope to ignite a passion for healthy active living. Spandex Shenanigans (Lycra Tube Games) Chris Wilson This workshop will show you how to sue Lycra Tubes in a wide variety of fun, active ways. Learn how to make your own for a low price and use them in a variety of settings. You may even win your own! This workshop will include the amazing slingshot and the birth canal. Don t be afraid to stretch your games repertoire.

Connecting LTAD and Physical Education: The Perfect Fit Gord Zubyck The Canadian Sport for Life Long Term Athlete Development (LTAD) framework connects directly to physical education. LTAD is currently an underused best practice model that supports inclusion and develops lifelong physical literacy. This workshop will provide an overview of the model, resources, ties to TGFU and the potential positive impact it can have on physical education planning. Gopher Games John Byl Gopher Sport has some innovative equipment for some great games. We will explore and play several of these, including: Paddlemonium, Enormous Eggs, Yukiball, and Food Tag Frenzy. Putting the I in Team: Initiative Tasks and Challenges that Inspire Doug & Lisa Buchanan This hands-on workshop is designed to help break the ice, inspire initiative and build team. Through a series of active icebreakers, challenging initiative tasks and engaging cooperative games, this workshop offers fun, friendly ways to get the best out of your group, team and/ or class. Who doesn t want a team that is INCLUSIVE, takes INITIATIVE and is INSPIRED?!

Get Some Balls * Find Your Beat * Be Unique: Drum Fit Dave Lyons Zumba Angie Vaccaro Every class feels like a party! Come join me and you ll see what I mean. You don t even have to know how to dance. Just move your body and follow my lead. It s easy! Come try it, I guarantee you will have a blast! I look forward to meeting you! Kindergames: Fundamental Movement Games for Young Students Robert Matheson The workshop will focus on games that allow students to practice the core fundamental movement skills. With full-day kindergarten in most schools, we need to provide these students with QDPE program that is at their level. You can t expect them to be ready for sports if they don t know how to throw or run yet. These students need games that focus on the basic skills that are the building blocks to a physically literate lifestyle. 10

World s Greatest Dodgeball Games Andy Raithby Experience and enjoy variations on this great game, that when done well (and we will talk about how to do that), can be a great activity to include as part of a Physical Education program. Ability in Action Shane Risto This active session takes participants through a series of activities that emphasize team work, communication, fun and most importantly inclusion of people of all abilities. Using a variety of equipment participants will try many inclusion strategies and learn innovative ways to include everyone in recreation sessions. Come experience ability in action! Get Some Balls* Find Your Beat* Be Unique: Drum Fit Dave Lyons 11
