1 First-Year Student Schedule of Events Saturday, August 20-23, 2016 Friday, August 19, :00 am 1:00 pm 5:00 pm 8:00 pm 9:30 pm Campus Offices Open [Various locations] 9:00 am to 5:00 pm Campus offices will be open to assist students and their families during normal business hours. Mail Room [Walker Hall] Open until 6:00 pm The mail room will be open for residential students to pick up any packages that were mailed ahead of time. (Student must be present and have a photo ID.) Residential Student Move-In [Assigned Student Residence Halls] 1:00 pm to 6:00 pm Students will pick up their room keys, meet the Resident Advisor (RA), meet their roommate(s), and move into their rooms. Campus community members will be assisting you and your family with move-in. (Student must be present.) Shopping in Sugar House and the Salt Lake Valley 5:00 pm to 8:00 pm Head to our local favorites and pick up those things that you forgot to pack or did not bring. You will be free during this time to meet up with your family. Check out the stores within the Salt Lake Valley. Shopko Target Smith s Walmart IKEA Costco Old Navy Whole Foods Bed, Bath, & Beyond Dinner with Family [Off Campus or in the Shaw Student Center] 5:00 pm to 8:00 pm Head out for dinner with your family in the Sugar House Community. Our community partners have provided many discounts for our new students and their families. If you choose to eat in the Shaw Dining Hall, your meal plan is activated for use with our food service provider, Bon Appetit. Residential Student Floor Meetings (MANDATORY for Student) [Your Residential Floor] 8:00 pm to 9:30 pm Meet your Resident Advisor (RA) and others on your floor. Learn what it means to be a member of the Residential Community and the guidelines for campus living. This is only for the student to attend. Evening Programming with the Residence Hall Association (RHA) [Residential Village] RHA will be providing an evening with S mores. Come and mingle with your new residential floor mates. Some offices will be open later on Saturday. Please see below for those office hours. Cashier, Financial Aid, Student Account Services [Bamberger Hall] Open 9:00 am 12:00 pm You and your family will have an opportunity to pay tuition, talk with Student Account Services and talk with Financial Aid staff. (Student must be present and have a photo ID.) START Center [Carleson Hall] Open 9:00am 12:00 pm You and your family will have an opportunity to ask questions about your class schedule, add/drop classes. (Student must be present.) Bookstore [Shaw Student Center] Extended Hours 9:00 am to 12:00 pm The bookstore will be open to purchase books for the semester or pick-up pre-ordered books. You may also choose to purchase some Westminster College merchandise. Eccles Health, Wellness, and Athletic Center Open until 5:00 pm Come take a tour of the Eccles Health, Wellness, and Athletic Center. You can get a picture taken and receive a Westminster College ID card. A Westminster Student ID card is required for the residential meal plans, access to Eccles HWAC, and renting library materials. Computer & Library Services [Giovale Library] Open until 5:00 pm Take a tour of Giovale Library. Your computer/ account questions can be addressed in the computer lab which is located on the lower level of the library. (Student must be present when asking about computer/ account. Additionally, you will need to bring your laptop to be certified for the wireless network.) Campus Showcase [Jewett Center for the Performing Arts Courage Theater] 9:30 am to 12:00 pm Finished with breakfast and already went through the Griffin Expo? There will always be something going on during the first day on campus! Come over to the Courage Theater and see quick (~10 min.) previews from these offices and educational programs to learn more about how you can get involved with your interests on and off campus. Official Orientation Welcome and Class Picture (Students and Families) [Richer Commons] After a busy morning moving around campus and meeting new people, we will take a moment to officially welcome you and split into orientation groups. Look for the sign with your small group number which can be found on your name tag. Also, this is the best photo op possible of the incoming class! Use social media to find what you are looking for and connect with other Griffins using #griffins2020 and #westminsterslc 3:15 pm Learning Community/Mentor Meeting [Various locations] Meet at Richer Commons - Look for the sign with your Learning Community group number 3:15 pm to 4:15 pm You will have the opportunity to get to know your LC Mentor(s) and peers by going to a reception with the people you will share your learning community with this semester. 4:15 pm Small Group Meeting [Residential Village Green] 4:15 pm to 5:00 pm Meet back up with your GO Leader on the Village Green as they prepare you for your Convocation and get you familiar with the Westminster Network. Students You will be able to line up and follow the faculty in a march across campus to the Behnken Field House. Parents/ Families They will be in Behnken seated in the bleachers waiting for you to arrive and snap some photos during the program. Placement Testing [Eccles Health, Wellness, and Athletic Center 3rd Floor] 9:00 am to 11:00 am If you are required to take a placement test please arrive on time so that the proctor can begin promptly. If you have questions about whether or not you need to take a placement test please contact the START Center. START Center [Carleson Hall] 9:00 am to 11:00am You will have an opportunity to ask questions about your class schedule and add/drop classes.
