From the President Dear Members of the Class of 2022: Welcome I am pleased to welcome you and your family to Assumption College for Accept Assumption. You are among a select group of students who have demonstrated the ability to succeed in the unique and challenging environment of our College. As a college founded by the Augustinians of the Assumption, the College provides students with a values-based and faith-based education rooted in the Catholic intellectual tradition. Our goal is to enhance your intellectual strengths as you stretch your mind with new ideas and ways of looking at the world. You will also stretch your heart and soul with an education that involves the formation of the whole person. As you will discover today, and throughout your four years here, Assumption College provides you with endless opportunities to discover your talents and to be transformed into a lifelong learner and an active leader in the classroom and outside the classroom. Intramural sports are big here, so we ll give you a chance to get in on the fun with some lawn games. There will be music, good food, photos with Pierre, and a Hound Bound T-shirt! Winners of the contest will also be announced! 2:15 p.m. PARENT SESSIONS (Families): Various Locations 3:15 p.m. Parents can choose from one of the following workshops while students attend the Hound Bound Hangout. Members of the Residential Life staff will talk about the various housing options and the programs offered within Assumption s residence halls. Sodexo Dining Services The number assigned to each department correlates to their location at the fair. RESIDENTIAL LIFE ON CAMPUS 90% of students live on campus all four years. Assumption s 18 residence halls are generally co-ed by floor and are usually double or triple rooms. Honors Housing and substance-free housing are available. Resident Assistants on each floor assist students and oversee activities, and the Residential Life staff work to ensure that on-campus living will be both enjoyable and educational. INTERCOLLEGIATE ATHLETICS AND CAMPUS RECREATION Assumption College is an NCAA Division II college and a charter member of the Northeast-10 Conference. Our student-athletes compete in 24 intercollegiate sports. Campus Recreation provides extensive recreational opportunities, including intramurals, club sports, instructional programs, recreation trips, and outdoor adventure. The Plourde Recreation Center features a six-lane swimming pool, track, three full-size multipurpose courts, racquetball courts, a mirrored aerobic/dance studio, and a fitness center. CAMPUS MINISTRY AND REACH OUT CENTER (ROC) Campus Ministry provides opportunities for students to discover more about spirituality, self, faith and God with a variety of spiritual development activities. Campus Ministry also recommends resources and options to students of other faiths, and an interfaith prayer room is open to all. The ROC provides students with a wide range of volunteer and leadership opportunities through local schools and agencies such as Big Brothers/Big Sisters, the Boys & Girls Club, Friendly House, Massachusetts Veterans Shelter, and Pernet Family Services. STUDENT ACTIVITIES AND CROSS-CULTURAL CENTER (CCC) Working with the Student Government Association, the Campus Activities Board and the many student clubs and organizations, the Office of Student Activities provide a wide range of social, recreational and cultural activities for the entire campus community. The CCC is committed to fostering a campus environment that welcomes all individuals from various cultural and ethnic backgrounds. The CCC advises student organizations who help educate the campus community about multicultural issues and promote diversity awareness through a series of events on and off campus. CAREER DEVELOPMENT AND INTERNSHIP CENTER (CDIC) CDIC s full-time professional staff provides guidance and resources to support students in their planning and preparation for post-graduation success, including connecting them with numerous career-building internship opportunities in Worcester and beyond. The CDIC also collaborates with local, regional and national organizations whose recruiters come on campus to conduct interviews, mock interviews and resume reviews. FINANCIAL AID Students are assigned a designated financial aid counselor to help navigate the process of applying for aid, and to assist with any questions or needs throughout their entire time at Assumption. ACADEMIC SUPPORT CENTER (ASC) The Academic Support Center offers free, one-on-one tutoring and presents study-skills programs, helping first-year students transition from high school to college-level work and providing support in almost every academic discipline, as well as writing assistance. STUDENT HEALTH SERVICES (SHS) SHS offers confidential medical care to all full-time undergraduates. Licensed, certified nurse practitioners and registered nurses assess and treat students and offer an array of medical services in collaboration with a consulting physician. Referrals to physicians or other community health care providers are arranged when necessary, and health education is provided by a certified specialist. STUDENT DEVELOPMENT AND COUNSELING CENTER (SDCC) The SDCC offers personal counseling to all full-time undergraduates in a confidential setting to address personal issues as well as issues of development and adjustment. Group counseling is offered on topics of interest to students.
