5 Session Descriptions Academic Advising Services (AAS) This session introduces students to policies and resources related to applying for a second major, changing majors, or adding a minor at NC State. Campus Career Services Begin to define your career path, develop job search skills, and gain career-related experience. Learn about co-op and internship opportunities, as well as available resources. Dining at NC State NC State Dining feeds the Wolfpack. Attend this session to learn how meal plans work and what options are available for resident and commuter students. Disability Services Office If you are a student with a disability, who may have had an IEP or 504 plan in K-12, come learn about the process and resources offered by the Disability Services Office. Finding Your Place at NC State Learn how to make the most of your time at NC State. Leaving your legacy begins with involvement, experiential opportunities and service. This session introduces you to Student Involvement and the many ways to get connected on campus. Leadership and Service Programs Explore service and learning opportunities that will transform your passion into action. Money Matters Find out what you need to know about viewing student accounts, paying bills, due dates, financial aid basics and more. MyPack Portal During this important meeting, learn how to utilize the Enrollment Wizard and other tools within MyPack Portal, as well as gain helpful tips to make this process successful. Non-Traditional Student Meet Up Take this opportunity to meet other non-traditional students in an informal setting and get your questions answered. Relax and Reset This active session will debunk popular myths related to the wellness of new students. Learn campus resources that will keep you healthy and active while at NC State. End with some rejuvenating yoga poses to get you energized for the rest of Orientation. Study Abroad Make The WORLD Your Classroom: learn more about study abroad at NC State. Technology on Campus This session provides an overview of the services and resources provided by OIT. In addition, staff will be available to answer common questions regarding purchasing a computer, managing , and utilizing Unity accounts. Time and Stress Management Learning how to successfully manage time and stress is very important to any college student. This session offers tips on how to balance it all and tackle future challenges. Transportation Learn about transportation on campus including how and when to get a parking permit and other parking options. We will also discuss transportation alternatives including the Wolfline, city and regional buses, and walking/bicycling. Undergraduate Research This session provides information on the benefits of Undergraduate Research and how to start identifying mentors and opportunities. University Tutorial Center (UTC) and Academic Writing This session addresses the services and resources provided by the University Tutorial Center. Special emphasis is placed on academic writing. University Housing A representative from University Housing will discuss the benefits of living on campus, resources available in the residence halls and details about moving to campus. 5

Gained insight into the opportunities and challenges that you as a parent or family member may encounter during your student s first semester at NC State. 3. Learned ways to support your student and yourself during this transition. 4. Received an overview of the services provided by the NC State s Counseling Center, including how to access and refer to these services. If you have questions about your student s transition after Orientation, you can contact the Counseling Center at or 11:15AM 12:00PM Community Expectations Talley Student Union, Coastal Ballroom (3rd floor) At the end of this session, you will have: 1. Heard about the University s student behavioral expectations, which are articulated in the Code of Student Conduct. 2. Learned about the importance of discussing the topics of alcohol use, drug use, sexual misconduct, and academic misconduct with your student. If you have questions about University policies and expectations after Orientation, you can contact The Office of Student Conduct at or 12:00PM 1:15PM Lunch Fountain Dining Hall Use the meal ticket you received at Check-In this morning for admission into the dining hall. Should your family need to purchase additional meal tickets, you may do so at the door using cash or credit/debit card. 6

Heard an overview of the preventative, medical and other services offered by Student Health Services. 2. Learned about eligibility for care and services with Student Health Services. 3. Learned about the UNC system-wide health insurance requirement and the NC State immunization requirements. If you have questions about the health services offered at NC State after Orientation, you can contact Student Health Services at or 4:05PM 4:35PM Staying Safe at NC State Talley Student Union, Stewart Theatre (3rd floor) At the end of this session, you will have: 1. Learned the university s police department s mission and contact information. 2. Learned about the university s safety resources and emergency communication procedures. Become fully aware of the resources and services provided by the Office of Parents & Families Services. 2. Identified strategies for student and family engagement and support within the University. 3. Learned about the many ways parents and families can remain engaged and active in the NC State community. 8 THINGS TO DO AT ORIENTATION Wolfpack One Card Your ticket to dining, recreation, and more Stop by the Wolfpack One Card Office (on the 2nd floor of Talley Student Union) with a government-issued ID during one of the following times to get your Wolfpack One card student ID made: After you check in to Orientation With your Orientation Leader group during Lunch Pick up your Wolfpack One Card during Orientation Check Out from 3:30pm - 5:30pm outside the Wolfpack One Card Office. If you do not get your ID during Orientation, you can stop by the Wolfpack One Card Office in August when you return to campus. 9 Taking Care of Business If needed, submit verification forms to Scholarships and Financial Aid (#7 on back cover map) and immunization verification records to Student Health Services (#9 on back cover map). Foreign Language Placement Testing If you need a Foreign Language Placement test, stop by the Language and Computer Labs (#6 on back cover map ) during Lunch, Campus Resource Choice Sessions, or after College Academic and Welcome information. Once you ve logged in, go to Student Self Service > Campus Personal Information > Address or Phone Numbers. Sign up to receive WolfAlert emergency text messages by adding your cell number. Check Your Frequently Step 1 to being successful at State is getting informed and connected. Your NC State is the University s official mode of communication with you, so get in the habit of checking it every day. Finalize Your Fall Schedule If you have additional questions, contact your academic advisor. Do not drop any courses that were pre-registered for you without contacting an advisor first. Solidify Your Meal Plan Decide which meal plan option is best for you. You have until September 30, 2016 to make changes to your fall semester meal plan. go.ncsu.edu/mealplans Prepare for Move-In Weekend If you will be living on campus, visit the University Housing website at housing.ncsu.edu for everything you need to know about moving into your residence hall. Move-In Dates: Friday, August 12 - Sunday, August 14, 2016 before classes begin on Wednesday, August 17. Purchase a Parking Permit Visit the Transportation website to learn about your parking options. Permits available for purchase in July. Order Your Textbooks Visit to order books directly from NC State Bookstores or use their Price Comparison Shopping Tool to explore all of your options. 10
