Seats are limited, so call the Senior Center to reserve your spot today. SAVE THE DATE Wednesday, September 26th, 9:30 am to 2:00 pm Romulus Senior Center will be hosting its annual Health Fair. Join us and receive flu shots, free blood pressure checks, hearing tests, vision tests and much more. Lots of free stuff! Bring your Medicare/Medicaid card. Romulus Police Department Educating Seniors about Social Media & Identity Theft Friday, July 20, 11:30 a.m. Come learn and ask questions in this informal setting with the Romulus Police Department. Learn how to protect yourself while using social media, facebook, messenger and other platforms. Keep your private information safe and prevent identity theft. Encourage seniors, friends and others to attend this free session. Detroit Tigers Summer Fun! Our last bus trip to see the Tigers! Romulus seniors can enjoy a day at Comerica Park. Seats are limited so please sign up early and join the fun! Bus leaves the Senior Center at 10:30 am. Senior Olympics Week Monday, July 23, 2018 thru Friday, July 27, 2018 The City of Flat Rock will be hosting the Senior Olympics this year. Best wishes to all seniors who will be representing Romulus this year. We will depart from the Romulus Senior Center at 6:30 am. There will be a free breakfast before opening ceremonies. Trips and Outings Grocery Shopping Mondays at 8:15 a.m. Visits to Meijer or Walmart in Belleville. If you are going shopping with us, you need to call before Friday and be put on the transportation list. Seats are limited so you must call ahead. Counts are needed in order to complete our route schedules. *Due to limited space on the bus, no large carts are allowed on the bus. Please buy what you can carry and place in front of you, on the floor. Thank you. 4 Message from the Director, Rose Swidan Happy summer and happy 4th of July! Now that summer is officially here, remember to make an extra effort to protect yourself from the sun, with a hat and sunscreen and keep hydrated. We have excellent programs available for you this summer. Remember to sign up for any programs you are interested in. if you are part of the Silver sneakers program, you can go to our beautiful RAC and swim for free. It is great exercise without the pain on your joint. Don t forget to join us for the ice-cream social with the Mayor on the 17th at 11:30 am. Also, I would like to invite you to join me for chair exercise class am every Friday. Please remember if you are interested in the Project Fresh coupons and you did not get any last year, stop by and fill out your application. We only have 20 available for Romulus. Best wishes to our Senior Olympians competing at the end of the month. Enjoy your summer, be safe and I am looking forward to seeing you at the ice-cream social. With regards to food distribution for Commodities and Focus hope, remember to put the date on your calendars. There are so many summertime events in our community and you re invited! The Romulus Farmers Market is open for the season from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Wednesdays at the Romulus Historical Park Pavilion, Hunt St., in the city s Downtown area. The market will be open Wednesdays through September 26, except for July 4. I m told there typically are 15 to 20 vendors most of them from Romulus and a special theme each week. Bonus Markets will be held from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturdays, July 7, August 11 and September 1. The Sounds of Downtown is a series of concerts held at 7 p.m. Fridays in Romulus Historical Park. The music changes each concert and all performances are free. Bring your own seating (lawn chairs and blankets are recommended). Movies in the Park is a free series of once-a-month family-friendly films that start at dusk at the Historical Park. Coming soon: Disney Pixar Coco on July 20 and Jumanji on August 17. The movies are shown in drive-in fashion on a huge screen. Thanks to all the staff that organize these special events in the city and special thanks to our event sponsors that help allow us to host activities. By the way, the annual flea market hosted by the Romulus Historical Society is set for 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday, July 7, also at Historical Park. Rooms for rent at the Romulus Senior Center The Romulus Senior Center is a great place to celebrate any special occasion from baby showers to family reunions and even wedding receptions! Rooms are available any day of the week and can hold up to 120 people. Arrange for a caterer or use the on-site kitchen. Call today! Food Services Need Food? Low income residents are eligible for free commodities each month. A variety of food is provided by the Emergency Food Assistance Program.
