Seats are limited, call the Center to reserve your spot today. October Halloween Luncheon Friday, Oct. 27th, 11:00 a.m. Ghosts, goblins & costumes of all kinds are encouraged for our Halloween celebration complete with costume contests, music, raffles & delicious food. Senior Book Club Tuesday, Oct. 17th 10:30 a.m. The Romulus Public Library will be holding a morning book club at the Center. This month they discuss: Go Set a Watchman by Harper Lee, and The Heart is a Lonely Hunter By Carson McCullers Lunch Out to Sam s Place Friday, Oct. 13th 11:00 a.m. Take the bus out to lunch with your friends! Movie Out Wednesday, Oct. 25th 10:00 a.m. Sign up to go see a movie at the Emagine Canton Cinema. $2.00 for Transportation, $8.75 for Ticket, Pop & Popcorn. Romulus Senior Communicator 3

4 Message from the Director, Rose Swidan Stop by for our Health Fair at the Senior Center on October 10th. We will have blood pressure and blood sugar checks, flu shots and lots more! The fun starts at 10:00 a.m., there will be lots of giveaways! Hope to see you there. It s that time of year again for Medicare open enrollment. On October 10th we will have counselors on site from the Senior Alliance coming in to assist you with that process. Please call the Senior Center and sign up for an appointment for that day. Remember you can only sign up once per year. Don t forget to bring all of your paperwork, information and list of medications when you come as that will help with choosing the best coverage for you. The weather is turning colder and winter months are just around the corner. Now is the time to make sure you are prepared for any weather emergencies. If you are low income, live alone and qualify for Chore Services, bring your information to the Senior Center and we will sign you up. If you know of any senior that lives alone and doesn t have a daily hot meal, please call the Center and we will help them sign up for Meals on Wheels. If you are a senior and you need transportation for medical appointments or to come to the Senior Center for daily activities games, please call 24 hours ahead and we will make arrangements to add you to the transportations list. We have lots of fun activities, trips, games, and lunches. Come and join the fun with us! Dress up and join us for Halloween Luncheon on October 27th. There will be great food, prizes, and lots of fun. Hope to see you all very soon! Rose Message from Mayor Burcroff First, I want to send a big thank you out to all our participants that came out to our first ever Grandparent-Grandchild Date Night last month. This is just one example of the new & innovative programming we are continuing to provide for the community. It is always special when we have quality time with young people who are important in our lives. As we get into the fall season with the weather changing, it is an important reminder to re-focus on our health. Please take advantage of all of the free services at the Health Fair on October 10th. This is a great service for people of all ages. I hope to see you there. Finally, please remember there is a very important General Election coming up on November 7th. You will be voting for city officials, as well as two ballot proposals. Please call or visit the City Clerk s Office for information on voting absentee (734) Voting is our civic duty and one of the many reasons our country is so great. Rooms are available any day of the week and can hold up to 120 people. Arrange for a caterer or use the on-site kitchen. Call today! Wayne County asks for a donation of $3.00 Volunteers Needed The Senior Center is seeking volunteers to pack food each morning from 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. for the Meals on Wheels Program. Wednesday, October 4th 10:30 a.m. We are excited to let you know about our craft class with Ms. Elexia from Romulus High School with her wonderful students. 7 The Phantom Unmasked Saturday, November 11th 8:00 p.m. If enough people are interested in purchasing tickets ($20 each), Wayne County Community College will provide us with free bus transportation to and from the event! Sign up today at the front desk of the Senior Center. Have old medical equipment or supplies? Donate it to the Senior Center for those in need. There are many seniors without insurance or coverage that may benefit from items you don t need anymore. Please feel free to drop them off at the Senior Center where they will be distributed on a first come-first serve basis. Items needed include: adult underwear/briefs (size L/XL most requested!), walkers, wheelchairs, shower chairs, bandages, toilet seat risers, etc. Too many grocery bags? Are your plastic grocery bags taking up space in a drawer or cabinet? The Senior Center is in need of clean, plastic grocery bags to help with packaging our monthly commodities.
